A really lovely place to stay in Guatape. First it's a little out of town away from all the hustle and bustle. It takes about 10 mins to walk to the city center or you can ask reception to call a tuk tuk for 3k pesos. You can walk safely to and from the hotel till 9pm and after it's better to call a tuk tuk. The bridge usually has working lights and is safe to cross even when it is dark. The interior is very nice, great common area to relax and listen to music. Rooms have big windows and lots of light. Breakfast includes scrambled eggs, some fruit, corn arepa and coffee. The lady that owns the place is very nice and made us feel very welcome. We don't speak spanish so she tried her best to communicate with us in spanglish. If you're going to the airport they can call you a taxi (the owner of the place) to take you there for 110k pesos. The journey took just over an hour and the driving was great. Another tip if you're adventurous and want to hike to the rock turn left just after the bridge walking from the hotel and you can hike straight to the to the rock in about 4 hours (just follow the road on google maps). The views are amazing, it's very safe and you get to see a few...
Read moreNice hostel on the outside of Guatapé, 10 min walk to the centre by foot. Friendly staff, but unfortunately don’t speak English. We booked a room with jacuzzi. The room is very spacious and has a lot of natural light. the bed is big but sits on a plateau with sharp corners, be aware not to hurt your shins against them.
The jacuzzi has enough space for 2. However to use it, the staff will have to turn on the boiler before use. There’s not enough hot water to fill the tub all the way, so you need some patience. Also, no bath bomb/shower gel was available. There are no hooks to hang towels in bathroom. Only above the bedside table.
The shower head has a heating element attached to it, which doesn’t work very well. It also is a safety issue due to the open wiring. The toilet seat was loose. The bathroom has an opening above the so when one will take a number 2 the whole room will smell 😂 Advice to use toilet downstairs.
There are no power outlets near the bed. Internet speed not great, around 3 mbit.
Snacks and beverages available in room but quite expensive. Lights in room are very bright.
Be aware of the uneven stairs up to the room and watch your head if...
Read moreOak Tree Hostel was a very colourfull, clean and welcoming place during our stay at Guatapé. |We loved this place because it was located very closeby, a tuc tuc brought us in 5 minutes to the main area’s. The hostess was a warm, helpfull lady and we could practice our Spanish with her (she does not speak English) We decided to stay one more night last minute, and this was no problem for her. The last morning she insisted to make breakfast for us and we loved that! |Sidenote: There was allot of music in the nights closeby, which did not bothered us that much because we (and the kids) were very tired in the evening but it is something that you should keep in mind. Would really recommend this place when...
