First I'm grateful my husband is from Colombia and fluent. I'm not sure if this place has changed owners since the rave reviews, but there was one poor woman trying to communicate about transport up the Amazon and my husband had to help her speak with the owner/manager. That being said, I didn't expect anyone to speak English on my journey and relied on my husband. The room was spacious, and the AC in the room was great (not in the lobby though!) We were greeted warmly with fresh juice and my husband arranged for an overnight tour and some other tours, though it appeared to be no less expensive than if I had booked online before the trip through one of the bigger companies. I was shocked to see the bed linens were basically a sheet, and no blanket but that certainly had us keeping the AC not so high (maybe that's the point?) we had to ask for toilet paper as there was never a back up roll and we had 3 people in the room. I know they want you to go easy on the plumbing, but really...||||The grounds were a little unkempt, someone mentioned a pool in their review but I saw none, just an empty fountain looking place in the front. It could be far nicer with just a few maintenance updates. Also the door being locked at night was a bit unnerving and my husband couldn't find a way out to have a cigarette. He ended up crawling through our window into an area behind the hotel.||||Back to my husband being Colombian, he thought for $70/night we could've done better. We did receive some nice gifts upon check out and as a side note the gentleman on site that drove us around in the little Tuk Tuk(thought we did need to pay) was awesome and he even took us to a great buffett in Brasil that he...
Read moreWe stayed two nights in Hotel Pirarucu in October 2015, during our trip through the Amazon. For us, it wasn't the hotel itself that stood out but the EXCEPTIONAL service from the Hotel Owner, Medardo. The hotel was very clean, the rooms spacious and the air conditioning excellent, especially considering not many places in Leticia have it. The location was also decent, on a quiet backstreet just a 5-minute walk from the town center. The hotel is priced fairly and the breakfast in the morning is very good. The only negative I would mention is that the wifi is not very strong --- but most places in Leticia experience this problem as the location is so remote. ||||We want to say a huge THANK YOU to Medardo (Hotel Owner) for all the advice and help he gave us during our short stay. He made us feel extremely welcome from the beginning but when we told him about an issue we had in making it to Brazil during the election weekend he went above and beyond to help us. This included making calls to immigration for us, going with us to the airport immigration office (and translating for us) and eventually helping us make our flights on time. Because of Medardo we were able to get to Brazil (Tabitanga) and to Manaus despite disruptions caused by the general elections. ||||At Hotel Pirarucu you feel very well looked after. I would definitely...
Read moreGreat place. The manager, Mr Gamez made my stay in the Amazon a wonderful experience. I cannot say enough positive things about Mr Gamez and his associate, Luis, as well as the ladies who run the kitchen and desk.||I traveled solo and had specific places/things I wanted to see. Mr Gamez offers ALL the common tours in Leticia in addition to making custom intineraries for you at totally reasonable cost. I didn't have to do any "high pressure" sales negotiating--Mr. Gamez simply made all my requests happen and he personally escorted me to the start of each day tour I wanted. He provided transportation no charge and was always looking out for me.||The rooms are air-conditioned, super clean, and have flat screen TV's---in the Amazon! The hotel is a converted mansion-style home, with garden and small pool. The breakfast each morning was fruit, eggs, juice, coffee (Colombian coffee is great!)||Arepas, and toast, included in the totally reasonable cost!||Mr Gamez provides a highly-personalized, low-key, friendly experience in Leticia. Anything I needed, whether it was laundry, transport, food recommendations, fishing, crossing into Brazil, low-cost tours---was provided promptly.||Mr. Gamez and his staff are so kind and sincere, I cannot imagine returning to the Colombia Amazon and staying anywhere else.||One of my best travel...
