To avoid at all costs! Financial exploitation of tourists and volunteers, they sent us on a multi day trek with someone who was not even a guide!
We took a 3-day trip for 600€ and it was so bad it looked like a comedy movie. The guide gave almost no explication at all, and altough we paid 100€ (!) for a translator, they used a young traveling volunteer that just arrived, with no experience and that had difficulties with the spanish accent. First we had 2h30 boat trip so the real ‘tour’ started only at 12h30, where we had to watch a national geographic documentary (which was the only interesting information we got, no joke). We had a meal at the house of the guide but he left us alone. We only walked 500m outside the city in the jungle to ‘camp’ in a place that was already prepared for it (on top of an ants nest), we could even hear the city music. The monkeys we saw on the way he didn’t bother to wait a bit and look at them. The famous ‘night walk’ lasted 40min in the dark in which we found the animals mostly ourselves. The tarantula’s we did not see (real guides know their nests so it is not hard to see normally). The day after we woke up at 7am, got to his home, had breakfast (the guide left us alone again), then his son dropped us of at a hotel where we needed to ‘rest’ until 11h30 (again). When he arrived at the hotel he even asked some of the real guides where he could find the river dolphins. Needless to say we canceled the rest of the trip. On the phone the company then offered reimbursement or another guide, very friendly and understanding. We refused the other guide as there are loads of guides there and we didn’t want to waste more time + the translator was not a translator. We organised everything ourselves from the hotel in Puerto Narino, we did a lot more the originally planned with the help of a translator and different guides. Total 130€ for both (instead of 600€). At the end Martha showed up much later than agreed upon to discuss the matter (we had a flight to catch, i was clear about the narrow timeframe to get the flight). She reimbursed 30%, saying that all the rest where costs and she couldn’t lose money (which is false because we heard the real prices from real guides). She will respond to this ‘we are no longer working with this guide’, but even the translator said she had 2 earlier incidences with other guides aswell in the 4 weeks she was there. Total scam, I didn’t even explain half it.
TIP: Organise everything yourself from Puerto Narino for 25% of the price! Apparently it is known between the guides the tour starting from Leticia are very poor quality in general. You can always contact me for more info about how to get to the guides or...
Read moreCannot speak more positively of my experience at Jangada! I took a 3 day Amazon tour - 1.5 days through the forest, then a 1-day stop in a local Ticuna village: San Pedro, and finally an afternoon Amazon cruise to dolphin-spot. The entire experience was $250 for 2 nights + breakfast in the hostel, the full 3-day, 2-night Amazon tour, all meals while on the tour, and with rain boots and a hammock kit provided. Incredible value for the price, would do it again in a heartbeat. Our guide Daniel was a local to the village we visited, knew the rainforest and its flora and fauna like the back of his hand, and showed us all about the amazing fruits, veggies, and fish available both in the wild and cultivated in his village. The hike was a good length and not too tough on any day, but prepare to be muddy, wet, and sweaty! Angie, Marta, and the team at Jangada are also endlessly helpful and charge pretty fairly for any extra items or services you need (laundry, headlamps, etc.) - they even brought me on a moto to change some currency and into Brazil to buy a boat ticket onwards for no cost. There are a few tours they offer, including one into Puerto Nariño that sounds much more like a tour through tourist hotspots. My strong suggestion is you tour the rainforest through to San Pedro. The hostel rooms themselves are average and a bit warm (with cold showers) but honestly, if you're coming to Leticia, you should take an Amazon tour, which will be well worth...
Read moreIf you are looking for an amazing, unique experience in the Amazonas region book a tour at Jangada.|For the tour I was accompanied by Janine, who translated the Spanish for me. She was great company and the 3 nights at Lomo Linda were really fun and interesting. Besides sleeping in the jungle, where we walked for 2 hours in the night through the jungle to experience this unique atmosphere and also to see loads of different animals. Furthermore, we were dolphin watching, fishing, did some arts, swam in the Amazonas, explored a beach at the Amazonas, which is only visible during the summer period, and went to the monkey island. Our guide, Robert did an amazing job, he grew up in lumo linda and really knows the jungle and his surroundings. He also taught us a lot about the indigenous people, their living and beliefs. During our visit we could stay in the house of his brother and ate at his parents house and were the only tourists in the village. We felt like we belong to the family from the first day on.|It was one of the best experiences I ever had and I would love to go back one time.|Thank you all for the...
