We had a great stay at the Golden Frog, and definitely recommend it. Julio Cesar was incredibly welcoming, even helping carry our heavy bike panniers to the room. Once we we're settled, he gave us a full tour of the place including the two social rooms, the kitchen which guests can use (and we did!) And the roof terrace. Their location was ideal, just blocks away from Bolivar square, the Cathedral, stores, restaurants and guide services. They are high tech, with a fingerprint key system allowing us to come and go as we please. John, the evening host engaged us in lively conversations in English, while also conversing with other guests in French. We used their kitchen for our first home-cooked meal in 3 weeks, which was great!|Our only critiques are that the hot water in the shower, wasn't (at all), and that the wi-fi is limited to the main public room (i.e. it didn't reach our room, or the other public area) and even in the main room the wi-fi was pretty weak.|The Golden Frog really is a great and...
Read moreI had an amazing time at the Golden Frog Hostel! This was by far one of the best hostels I’ve stayed at over the past 3 months in Colombia. In regard to the hostel itself, the facilities were very nice with comfortable rooms, plenty of space to relax (game room, TV room) and probably the best breakfast I’ve been offered at any hostel. The best part, however, was definitely the staff. Everyone working there was extremely friendly and went out of their way to make sure my experience in Manizales was great. Carlos, especially, was incredibly fun and charismatic, and his passion for Manizales really shows. He truly treats his guests as friends or family rather than customers. The hostel also organizes trips to Nevado de Ruiz - I thought it was a really awesome experience. If you’re coming to Manizales, this is DEFINITELY the...
Read moreThe hangout spaces and private rooms are quite large here. The bathrooms are cleaned daily, and the kitchen is well-equipped and quite large. The hostel workers helped recommend us where to eat and visit in the city multiple times, and were quite friendly. We got one of our best recommendations of the trip from the owner, who told us to visit Valle de la Samaria, which is another wax palm valley, much like Cocora Valley, but it is twice as large with almost no tourists. We are extremely happy we got this recommendation as visiting Salamina and the wax palm valley of La Samaria was one of the highlights of our time in Colombia (3+ months). Overall, this is one of the cleanest and best-equipped hostels that we have stayed at on our travels. Highly...
