Alexandra is amazing - helpful, friendly, and speaks great English. The rest of the staff were also great including the gentleman who helped us book a tour to Tayrona which we very much enjoyed (tour bus picks you up 100 yards from the hostel door). The hostel is located in Rodadero, just south of Santa Marta, but it is very close to the bus route to get to downtown Santa Marta. It is also just a few blocks from beautiful Rodadero Beach, 1 block from a supermarket, and near a couple dozen restaurants and bars. The pool is fabulous. There is a large brick BBQ available for use. The kitchen is good with plenty of storage space (two refrigerators, more than enough). Wifi can be spotty in the 6 bed dorm but worked 90% of the time in the common areas. Beer, wine, and water are available for sale at a fair price from the front desk. There is not a bar or restaurant on site.
Please note: There are two shared dormitories, one with 8 beds and one with 6. The one with 8 beds has air conditioning. The one with 6 does not so you must sleep with the windows open and you need to use mosquito repellent to keep from being bitten at night (I got several bites the first night). The 6 bed rooms have personal fans but it can still get very hot depending on your personal heat tolerance. Also please note that you must walk through the 8 bed dormitory to get to the 6 bed dormitory.
Overall I enjoyed my time here and would stay at this...
Read moreMy husband and I loved our stay at Calle 11 Hostel so much, when we came back through Santa Marta, we stayed another night!
The hostel is a beautiful mansion turned into a backpackers getaway. Santa Marta is very humid and almost miserably hot at times. The lovely pool was a nice reprieve from the heat. The rooms were very clean as well as the spacious communal kitchen, which was well stocked with pots, pans, and utensils. Not all of the rooms include AC, but fans were included, which provided relief from the heat. We stayed in a private room with its own bathroom and very much enjoyed it.
Calle 11 Hostel is not a party hostel, but you'll certainly have a great time drinking by the pool and chatting with the fantastic owners and other guests. Oliver and Anouk, the owners, provided great travel advice and assistance in getting to and from the airport. If you want to take a few days at Tyrona National Park, you can leave your bags at the hostel, free of charge.
I would most certainly recommend Calle 11 Hostel for anyone's stay in...
Read moreI thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hostel. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms some of the best I've encountered on my travels. Very clean and big as well. The common areas are great, there are hammocks to relax in and you can read books or watch TV. They also have a pool with a video projector. The building itself is amazing. An old mansion converted into a hostel.|The only "negative" point is, that for a hostel, breakfast, wine and other drinks are a little pricey. It's not the best backpacker deal you can find. The cocktail happy hour in comparison is quite cheap though.|The staff is also very friendly and helpful and I would recommend...
