My family lives in Costa Rica and we’ve gone here with our family before in the “off season”. We had a good experience. We visited again last weekend and it’s the time of year when many of the property owners are there. It felt like a retirement community and they are VERY territorial and controlling. You WILL feel very uncomfortable if your kids are playing in the pool and just being kids. Your kids are diving for toys and laughing? You get eye rolls. Your 4 year old cries or gets too excited? Forget it. On our second day, as we came out to the social area we immediately heard people loudly talking about my family. They also spoke in English as I walked by thinking I couldn’t understand - because I am a Latina. At that point, we had spent no more than 20-30 minutes in the social area since we arrived at Paloma Blanca. We only spent 4 days there and we had a very uncomfortable experience with the type of “anti-children” community that they’ve built there.
We know other people with kids who have visited during this season and they’ve had similar experiences.

Read moreSpent 5 days with family here. Great location! Far enough away from downtown to avoid the riffraff yet close enough to walk if needed (a cab costs little more than $1). You can see the beach front from most of the rooms, just a short stroll across the beach access road in front of the hotel grounds. Beautiful beach with a surf camp tent that you can rent boards from for $10. The front security guards are very friendly and are more then happy to help you out or call you cab whenever needed. Looking forward to going back to Costa Rica and...

It is in a great location near the beach with a decent little (local) beach front restaurant about 50 feet from it's gate...which means the beach is 50 feet from it's gate. This is a great place for families. ONLY families. If you want to "party" with the local talent, then this is NOT the place. Pro Tip: Walking down the beach is the best way to get back to the shops on the strip. Don't walk along the road, a...
