If I could give this place zero stars I would. We ended up here while traveling only because it started pouring as we approached the beach. The sad part is how we walked five more minutes we could’ve had a much better experience.
Everything is overpriced, even comparable to the other restaurants on the same beach. And on top of that, they charge us nearly US$5 for a glass of apple juice. It probably wouldn’t have been so bad if their food wasn’t so terrible.
Imagine, me, a chef, ordering coconut shrimp only to be served, but was clearly prepackaged, frozen coconut shrimp that had been barely dropped in a fryer. I might have thought that was the worst thing on the menu. If I had not also ventured into Nomansland and ordered us ceviche. Don’t risk your stomach is all I can say. It definitely tasted like fish and shrimp that had just been sitting in water down lemon juice.
I was really shocked to find that even though waiter bragging about how good the ceviche would be was convinced that it would be.
Two menu items and two drinks later our bill came to $65 USD. We couldn’t finish the ceviche because it absolutely tasted like something I could’ve gotten at a fast food restaurant. For context I’ve been traveling for two months in South America and eaten nothing but amazing food in every country I’ve been in. Brazil, Chile, Peru, and here this was the worst meal I’ve had by far.
I never mind paying the price for a great food experience, but this was absolutely a rip off and what came to $65 should have been $10 worth of McDonald’s.
It’s no wonder that every other place on the beach has 4.5 and above reviews and this place has a 4.1. They should probably just serve drinks. Or fire, whatever is posing as a chef back in their kitchen and rehire and start from scratch. It’s not OK to capitalize on your location and the fact that people will keep coming in because of its placement. Work on the quality of your food and maybe you get some more return customers.
I am absolutely not sure what kind of food. These people who have given it five stars have been eating all their lives, but for...
Read moreIt is such a shame that a place with this location and possibilities would allow itself to be ruined by the attitude of the young girl working as a waitress there. My wife and I visited three times while in Jaco because it was very nearby and has a very nice area outside to sit and have a drink. We are both in our 60s very polite and very respectful. Each time we visited I very politely mentioned in Spanish to the young girl that I am trying to learn Spanish but my Spanish is limited. I was able to order my wife and I drinks the first few times we were there and the girl never once smiled and simply turned and walked away when I finished ordering. When she would return with the drinks she would set them on the bar turn and walk away. Even when I would pay and leave a tip I would barely get acknowledgment much less a smile or a gracias. The final visit we sat inside and ordered nachos with our beers. She asked something in Spanish that I could not understand and I very politely ask her to repeat. She snapped it out a second time and when it was clear I still didn't understand she very rudely nearly shouted it again then rolled her eyes and walked away. A different girl served the nachos and the flavor was great but there were only six or seven regular size chips with lots of cheese, sauce and some meat on top. No utensils and no napkins. No way to reach the chips without pushing your bare fingers through the beans and sauce . Again this time dropped in front of us and then she turned and walked away without a word. As a small business owner myself I just cannot imagine why the owner of this business would tolerate that kind of behavior even if she's his daughter he's doing her no favors by teaching her that that is anywhere close to acceptable. My wife and I visited many different establishments throughout Jaco when we were there on our week-long vacation and every other place had at the very least very polite and...
Read moreGreat location. Breakfast not so much. Arrived 7:15, not open till 8. Went back at 8 since we were staying close by. Still just the guard there. Can we get coffee? Not till the cashier arrives. After a while the cook arrives, waited another 10 or 15 min and the cashier and waitress arrived. Only one tattered menu available. One person ordered, the rest asked for coffee first. The waitress didn't come back but meanwhile, the cook sends out three plates, but only one had been ordered. One at our table only wanted coffee to go. Still no coffee... apparently still percolating. Surly waitress. Nice portion of eggs with a teeny tiny itty bitty piece of parsley on the eggs -- a joke?, Skimpy fruit, just a few very small pieces (if the pineapple could be sliced thinner, you could see through it!), Toast (cheap white bread) dry as a cracker and a barely adequate portion of jam in a ramekin or sauce cup that you can't get out with the steak knives they provided. Coffee did arrive eventually in a nice big mug... appreciated. $14 for two breakfasts. Wanted to say, Excuse me, am I...
