I recently had the pleasure of staying in the family suite at your hotel during my family's trip to Costa Rica, and I cannot express enough how much we enjoyed our experience. I am thrilled to share this positive review of our stay.
To begin with, the family suite was absolutely perfect for our family of five. The beds were soft and comfortable, ensuring a restful sleep for everyone. The lighting in the room was excellent, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. We were also captivated by the beautiful scenery surrounding the hotel, which we could admire from the comfort of our room or the lovely patio. The spacious fully stocked kitchen was a true delight, allowing us to prepare meals and snacks effortlessly. It added a sense of convenience and made us feel right at home. Furthermore, the separate sleeping spaces provided privacy and ensured that everyone had their own comfortable area to rest.
The housekeeping service was truly exceptional. The room was consistently kept clean and tidy, which made our stay even more enjoyable. We appreciated the attention to detail and the high standard of cleanliness maintained by the housekeeping staff. Their dedication to ensuring a comfortable and hygienic environment was very impressive.
The front desk staff deserves special recognition for their outstanding level of service. They were extremely accommodating, going above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Their recommendations for local restaurants were spot-on, and their assistance with arranging taxis and providing guidance on the best locations to visit was invaluable. Their friendly and helpful demeanor made us feel welcome throughout our entire stay.
The daily breakfast provided at your hotel was an absolute highlight. In fact, it was the best breakfast we had during our entire trip to Costa Rica. The variety of delicious food options and the quality of the dishes surpassed our expectations. We savored every bite and truly enjoyed starting our days with such a delightful meal. The breakfast experience added an extra touch of luxury to our stay.
One of the things we appreciated most about your hotel was its convenient location. It was situated so close to beautiful beaches, a wide range of fantastic restaurants, and the renowned Manuel Antonio National Park. This proximity allowed us to explore the area easily and maximize our time in Costa Rica. We loved being able to walk to these attractions, as it added convenience and saved us transportation hassle.
Lastly, I would like to express our gratitude for the exceptional customer service we received during a power outage when we were checking out. The front desk staff demonstrated great understanding and consideration by offering to send our final bill via email, sparing us the inconvenience of finding a bank early in the morning with tired children. Their willingness to accommodate our needs left a lasting impression on us.
Our stay at your hotel was the absolute highlight of our family trip to Costa Rica. The family suite provided us with all the comfort and convenience we needed, from the soft beds and excellent lighting to the beautiful scenery and fully stocked kitchen. The impeccable housekeeping service and the helpfulness of the front desk staff further enhanced our experience. The delicious daily breakfast, convenient location, and the exceptional level of service truly set your hotel apart. Without a doubt, this was the best hotel experience during our family trip to Costa Rica. Thank you for creating such wonderful...
Read moreWe stayed for 5 days in the Family Suite and I absolutely loved it! The room was HUGE, it had an upstairs living/sleeping area in addition to the downstairs.
Downstairs was pretty standard: King bed, bathroom with a huge shower stall. Bed was comfortable, bathroom was spacious and included shampoo, shower gel, lotion, and hand soap in refillable dispensers. The front of the room is all window view out into the garden/pool area and has a nice little patio with a bench, some chairs, and hooks for drying things. There are blackout curtains you can pull across so you aren't woken up by sunlight in the morning.
Upstairs was amazing. There were two beds (double and twin size, I believe), a generous kitchenette, seating areas, and a balcony. The kitchen had a cooktop, full size fridge and freezer (with manual water dispenser and manual ice maker), microwave, sink, and a good assortment of cooking items and dishes. There is a couch (maybe a futon) in one seating area, and another with four comfy chairs. The balcony is covered and looks over the street and has a table with four chairs. There was a bathroom almost identical to the one downstairs with a large stand up shower.
Breakfast is included out by the pool. There is a buffet with bread items, fruit, and yogurt. The kitchen also offers hot items like pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, and pinto gallo. They have coffee, water, and juices available.
The pool area is cozy. The pool itself is small, but it's a small hotel so it was never crowded. There were lots of lounge chairs around it so you could relax and enjoy all the things.
In the evenings the pizza oven and bar open. The pizza was thin crust and delicious, they offer boxes so you can take the leftovers back to your room. The bar offers a 2-for-1 happy hour on drinks. The Pina colada, mai tai, daquiries, and crazy monkey (mudslide with banana) were awesome. The kids loved the fruit smoothies.
We were right on the edge of the forest so there was tons of wildlife hanging out with us. The kids counted and named all the lizards that hung out around the pool.
The walk to the beach takes about 5 minutes on a narrow road. There are plenty of dining options within walking distance and the front desk will connect you with a taxi if you're wanting to go up to the other half of Manuel...
Read moreThis is a great little hotel! Perfect location and couple min from the beach and the national park, with tons of restaurants in the area to choose from. Just far enough from the main beach strip that you avoid the traffic and chaos. We stayed for 4 nights as part of a journey around Costa Rica.
The highlight at La Vela is the staff - every individual went out of their way to make sure our stay was delightful. Since it’s a small hotel, most of the staff know who you are and cater to your needs very well. This alone makes the hotel worth staying at.
We also loved that there is only a small number of rooms. It’s never hard to get a seat for breakfast or a lounger at the pool. Never feels busy, which is nice.
The pool area is a great place to relax with the kids when you aren’t on excursions. There is a great little bar and a wood-fired pizza oven which is fabulous! Given that the hotel backs onto natural space and is very close to the park, you can see a ton of wildlife just sitting at the pool - we saw iguanas, basilisks and other lizards, a toucan and an entire group of monkeys come though. We also saw a sloth just outside the hotel (much closer than at the national park!) as well as several deer and an agouti!
There’s no restaurant but there is breakfast poolside each morning and it was always fresh and delicious. There’s a buffet table as well as a small menu with eggs, omelettes, pancakes, gallo pinto, etc. As mentioned, there’s also a wood fired oven that gets fired up in the afternoon for pizza. We did explore many of the restaurants in the area for lunches and dinners though as there are many fantastic options within easy walking distance.
The rooms are clean and comfortable and the A/C works well. The water pressure can be a bit variable, but I suspect that isn’t the hotel’s fault and is likely common in the area. If I had one (small) criticism, it’s that the rooms could use a bit of a refresh. But really this is nitpicking - they are fine and how much time are you spending in your room in Costa Rica anyway?
I wholeheartedly recommend La Vela - it met our needs as home base while we were either on excursions or at the beach during the daytime, and the staff...
