Un super sejour magnifique!!
Based on my recent three-day stay at the BoHo Tarmarindo, I would rate it “excellent (cinq etoiles)” because of the amazing, personal service offered by the French couple owners (Johann and Greg) and the location. Over the decades I have stayed at many places all over the world and I will always recall this experience among the best.
The hotel is a small eight-room bed and breakfast (B&B) like the ones you find in France where the owners are from. (They speak perfect English.) They designed and had the place built themselves fairly recently as a B&B with their own residence onsite, adjoining the guest rooms. The hotel’s bohemian style is clean, modern and relaxed. The Wi-Fi and air conditioning worked perfectly.
I was particularly struck by how accommodating the hosts were to the needs of their guests. Johann, who handled the front-of-the-house functions, got to know you personally in an unobtrusive way. In this regard, she reminded me of a very professional, private concierge in a high-end hotel who anticipates your needs and is there to address them. She was very helpful with the Covid-test issue, restaurant recommendations and coordinating the shuttle to the Liberia airport. I got the feeling that Johanna, as an owner and unlike employees you encounter in other places, really cared.
There was an ample fixed breakfast served each morning. One morning it was rancho huevos, another it was pancakes and yet a third sweet rolls. What made each breakfast special was the large, delicious bowl of fresh fruit prepared by Greg.
The location was perfect. It was quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Tamarindo in a more relaxed residential setting, yet still only a ten-minute walk into town and to the restaurants. (I had good luck with the Dragonfly on two evenings ordering the expertly-prepared red snapper the tuna.) More importantly, it was only a three-minute walk to a less-crowded part of the beach. Animal visitors included a family of howler monkeys and one very large iguana.
Although there was no obligation to interact with the other guests if you did not want to, I found it enjoyable to converse with others at the small pool and compare notes. There were the Americans, of course, but also a Canadian fellow, a young German couple and an older couple from Switzerland. This is this sort of thing that you do not find at the larger, more impersonal hotels.
To sum up, I would highly recommend the Boho Tamarindo if you are the kind of person who seeks the kind of experience I...
Read moreBoho Tamarindo is not just a boutique hotel—it's a feeling. From the moment we arrived, owners Laura and Clay, along with their amazing staff, made us feel like family. Their warmth, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality elevated our entire stay. If there was anything they could do to make us more comfortable, they didn’t just do it—they anticipated it.|The location is ideal—just steps (barely 100 yards) from the beach and an easy walk to everything in town. Despite being so central, the vibe at Boho remains serene, relaxed, and intimate. Each morning, we were treated to thoughtfully crafted breakfast options that were as delicious as they were beautifully presented—an elegant start to each day.|There have been some comments online about nearby construction noise. Speaking as someone from New York City, the noise was minimal and barely noticeable. That said, Laura and Clay go above and beyond to address any concerns—offering white noise machines, earplugs, and total transparency. Their proactive approach is just one more example of how much they care.|One moment that perfectly summed up the spirit of Boho: upon our arrival, we saw Laura hand-scrubbing the outdoor flower pots. That level of pride and leadership is rare in any industry, but to find it here—at a small boutique hotel in Costa Rica—is extraordinary. Their example clearly inspires the entire team, who treat every guest interaction with sincerity and joy.|The property also felt incredibly secure, with overnight security, cameras throughout, and personal safes in each room. More importantly, we felt relaxed, welcomed, and valued. That kind of comfort is something you can’t manufacture; it’s cultivated through culture and care.|Boho is the only place I’d stay in Tamarindo. I can’t wait to return—again and again—not just to enjoy the space, but to reconnect with Laura and Clay.||Giving it 5 stars doesn’t feel...
Read moreThis accommodation is exactly as it looks in the pictures! Beautiful, secluded, and quaint. Johanna and staff are all incredibly welcoming and accommodating (packing us a snack for a day we'd miss breakfast due to an early excursion). This property is in a fantastic location! A few minute walk from the beach (which we absolutely took advantage of) and close to a wide variety of restaurants all within walking distance.
The breakfast/common courtyard is an inviting and wonderful place to enjoy the delicious provided breakfast and drink your coffee at while hearing and sometimes spying monkeys early in the morning. The pool is the perfect size for the number of guests the property can accommodate and always sparkling clean.
The rooms are beautiful, modern, and very bohemian. They have all the amenities you could need (pool towels, bath towels, hanging closet area where you can also store your luggage, safe, and A/C), and are incredibly clean. The only minor inconvenience I will note was the many ants we killed on our (3) night stay. I believe it was just the time of year we were traveling. Johanna did provide Raid in the common kitchen on our first night and had housekeeping spray during their rounds as well which definitely assisted in keeping the ants at bay.
All in all despite the minor ant inconvenience, the energy/communication of the owners/staff and the absolutely beautiful, strategically located property make this place a winner in our books. They have amazing attention to detail, providing a bottle of sparkling wine, a beautiful "Happy Honeymoon" sign, and heart shaped balloon to welcome us when we entered the room. Thank you for an incredibly enjoyable stay we will highly recommend Boho...
