Lacking in luxury. The hotel Kvarner relies on its stunning location to attract guests. The renovation of the outside of the hotel and beach front is beautiful. The white stone on the terrace makes it unbearable on a hot day, as so much heat is radiated back. Few guests sat on the terrace. At breakfast the terrace was swarmed by pigeons on the floor and tables scavenging for food. Breakfast in the small inner dining room was chaotic ( guests choosing to eat inside because of the pigeons). Not enough tables for guests. The two waitresss’ we’re doing their best to serve guests, but were overwhelmed by the volume of work for just the two of them.On the first evening we ate on the terrace, we asked for advice about the wine from the waiter, he said the local wines were all the same. It appeared that the staff were inexperienced and poorly trained. When we took a shower the glass panel over the bath was too short, so leaked badly flooding the bathroom floor. We reported it to the young blonde receptionist, who was unhelpful. We reported it a second time, the maintenance team did put a rubber stopper which was too short, problem not solved. The manager did offer us an alternative room, but as it was smaller we declined. The blonde lady who cleaned the rooms was friendly, kind and generous. The room was cleaned to an exceptionally high standard. The local staff at recption were surly, unable to answer questions about events happening at Reto Opatija in the hotel or town. Overall the hotel is functional, but lacks touches of finesse which give it that feel of luxury. Enjoy the view, which is what the hotel offers!

The hotel itself has probably the best view and location in all of Opatija. Rooms were renovated a few years ago, but the building does show it's age. I definitely recommend staying on the 4th floor, as the 180 degree views are truly amazing from there, much better than from the lower levels!!! Breakfast was varied and plentyful. The beach area is quite private and has great views. Sunbeds are plentyful but the bigger double beds (of which there are only 6) were taken quickly so we went down at 6 in the morning to reserve one. Some people have complained about the bar next to the hotel, but we didn't think it was too loud or disturbing. With closed windows you couldn't hear a thing. Parking was full behind the hotel so we had to go to the city parking where 24 hours cost 144 kunas (21 Euros). Our daliy room rate was 288 Euros (only breakfast included), but we had to pay 15 Euros extra for a 2in1 coffee bag and a small mineral water. This is a very cheap move, and doesn't fit the hotel's image. I would recommend the managment to reconsider charging for these. The staff was VERY professional, and did a great job of helping us enjoy our time. Everyone spoke good english! We had a couple massage and it was amazing as well. All in all we had a great time, and inspite of the small problems I would definitely recommend this hotel!

Charmy hotel, restored from shambles with a lot of care into a luxury hotel. Extremely friendly staff throughout. Excellent breakfast, also the evening buffet was colourful and tasty, I can recommend eating "in house". Most of the rooms look out into the sea and the morning sun - in our case even into the full moon reflecting in the water. Fitness and sauna is open 8-20h. The pool is not heated, so only useable after the sauna in April ;). On busy days many tourist groups stop in front of the hotel to take pictures. I don't recommend the hotel for dog owners: while they are received with a lot of joy, they are heavily restricted as they cannot go anywhere inside except the lobby and even not to the beach. At least, they are permitted on the terrasse, that helps. 29 Eur per dog and day is overpriced as you get nothing in return. But all in all very recommended for a lazy luxury stay in a historic atmosphere.

Grand but lacks atmosphere.

General: Best location in the town. Looked newly refurbished. Has a grand feel. We had a sea view and loved sitting on the balcony waving to passes by while drinking the free champagne from the reception. Parking was easy although costly (I never agree with having to pay for parking if you have paid for a room…!) spa and gym standard and we enjoyed it. We did t have a massage as it didn’t look appealing. Jetty/beach! Was nice to have a private area. Breakfast plentiful and no complaints.

Sleep: Stayed for 3 nights and the first 2, we slept well - the third was a Friday and there was a ‘rave’ that sounded next door from 11-4am…. NOT happy as we did t sleep at all (we heard lots of complaints the next morning). Apparently it was way across the water and the sound travelled…. Be warned if visiting at the weekends (guess it will be the same at any hotel on the waterfront 🫣). Room was a bit dull/bland, lacked something…. The shower leaked through the screen so we had to use our towels to soak up the water - must have been like this for ages as black stains etc. Dinner. We decided to have our anniversary dinner on the outside, food arrived cold. Service slow, although the staff were very nice. Next couple of nights we eat out at Roko’s across the road 👍 Bar - what bar….. missing a trick here, make it a place people would want to stay and spend. We went to other hotel bars instead. There was that X factor missing - atmosphere, there wasn’t any.

Would we stay again, as is,...

I can only speak in super positive terms about the hotel, the staff, the quality of the food and the all-pervading luxury atmosphere! Perfect, central location!!! I have been to many 4* hotels, but I have never experienced this atmosphere, this attentive but not intrusive service! I really and sincerely do not understand those who write bad things about it! They are not satisfied with their own lives! You have to pay for parking?! Why?! Everywhere else too, and it is written everywhere, you can know in advance. Was a tile cracked on the terrace?! Was there really nothing else to look at? There was such a wonderful panorama, such magnificent architectural and decorative solutions on every square centimeter, I do not even understand these writings! I think this hotel is definitely 4*+ rated, and I will recommend it to all my friends! Since it is a hotel built in 1884 and renovated around 2000, there may be few electrical plugs in the room compared to our today's all-energy-hungry objects, I only missed one connector in the bathroom so that I could shave there, but maybe it's just me who couldn't find it! The toiletries (with orange scent) completely enchanted me!!! ... and the environment, if you are receptive to the elegant and gentlemanly behavior of the past, will also elevate every moment of your stay to a higher level! Thank you very much for letting us be your guests with our 25kg+...
