Happy Hostel — Hotel in Grad Rijeka

so I thought I had seen some special hostels in my life but this stay makes me never wanna go back into an hostel again..||||when I booked they were lovely, gave me great info and good rates. Location at a main street where of course my own fault i forgot about party night on Saturday as Covid-19 does not exist in Rijeka. When I got to the place, two girls gave me the little welcome speech & good luck wish with all the different keys and then I was showed the room. ||||Not like the pictures, not even close, well I guess the colors used were similar?! Not sure if this room was even meant to be rent out. Pieces and parts falling of the walls, back of a wall hidden by a changing rack, closet that might fall apart when you open it, sticky floors and enough cracks to indicate a 'forgotten' room.||||In the night I liked to sleep, guy next door got sick (perhaps covid does exist here too?!) I did feel sorry for him, just didn't wanna head the whole show.. and the other room people got back from partying. Mostly not too strange but with the covid situation even I got a little curious if it all was sanitized. The bathroom was fine btw, just got to hold the showerhead when you shower but it was clean.||||Ps. Room next door definitely looks like the pictures of the blue dorm. I peeked inside as the guys left door open after checking out. ||||Tip, perhaps the 'apartments' are better and dorms, don't go for the one person room with shared stuff unless you like to pay for an...

I found this hostel at the last minute and am so glad I did. I have been on a solo bicycling trip along the Istrian Coast. Yesterday’s bad weather caused me to do an impromptu detour into Rijeka where I found this hostel on Booking.com.

It is not the largest and fanciest hostel. It is though very charming and very well maintained. Its owner is an older man near my age and is paternal in the best sense. He took great care of all. Even this morning, as I was getting ready to leave, he stopped me and persuaded me to stay a little while based on the weather forecast appearing on his phone. He was right.

The bed was very comfortable, the A/C worked perfectly. While I did not use it, the kitchen works well for hostel guests.

And, oh yeah, excellent location on Rijeka’s mall...

Clean but not particularly modern room.||Is fairly noise being to just above a street of bars and restaurants- you can hear (and feel) the music till gone 1am.||Also, there is only 1 bathroom per sex which had the shower, toilet and sink all behind 1 locked door meaning only 1 person can use it at once. This has led to several queues when someone is in the shower and you just want to clean your teeth. Again, bathroom was clean but not anything special. ||Whilst the hosts were polite, they were not there to let us in when we arrived (during our arrival slot) and our keys were somewhat temperamental.||Central location.||Get what...
