Guverna New City Accommodation — Hotel in Grad Zadar

I arrived at 8:30 and there was no one on duty. I got the key out of the locked box and discovered that the door to the room was open. This is because the DOOR LOCK WAS BROKEN! The cylinder slid back and forth.||As there would be no one on duty until the next day, and I do not have cellular service abroad, there was no way I could contact anyone for assistance.||The hotel seemed shady, someone could have walked into my room, or been waiting in it, so there was no way I was staying there. ||Of course the hotel is claiming that the lock was secure, but IT WAS NOT. A moving does not make a working lock. I am so thankful that I stayed at another hotel on a previous trip to Zadar, so I knew of some place to go (no Wifi connection at Guverna, so I couldn’t even search for a better rate somewhere else). ||Stay away from this place, especially if you are a woman...

These are basic accommodations in a good location. The check in procedure is very confusing since there is no one on sight. After a couple phone calls to the manager we got it figured out so that she could give us the access code to get in our room. In their information they need to explain that the entrance to the apartment is from Mcdonald's drive through. It does not have good "curb appeal". The first thing you see when you arrive are a block of apartments that are permanently occupied which look very dingy and messy. The back half of the building are the Guverna rentals which are much nicer. The AC unit was finicky but we finally selected the right setting and it worked reasonably well. We got the loft studio that has the sleeping area lifted above the main area. It's design nicely with great details and the overall vibe is modern. It has small porch in front that is perfect for drinking coffee in the morning, wine in the evening or even sunbathing. Nice and clean. The kitchen was fully loaded with all kinds of plates, glasses, utensils. The fridge is big enough. One of the best things is the location. It's 3 minutes away from the main bus station, 20 min walking time from the old town and 10 minutes away from the beach. They don't have reception and everything is online.
