We visited the Royalton hideaway on September 16th to 25th. We could not have asked for anymore of the trip. From start to finish it was amazing and we loved every minute of it. When we arrived we checked in and were then introduced to our butler Jhoenmy who was friendly and welcoming. He showed us around the hideaway, talked us through everything included with our package and discussed how he could assist us during our stay.|| I want to be really honest with this review and highlight in detail what the trip was like as we had read previous reviews and were a little unsure at first. This is also tailored to mine and my wife’s personal preferences and how we like to enjoy our holidays. ||After the introduction Jhoenmy asked us what restaurant we would like to go for dinner and recommended the private restaurant solely for the hideaway guests for our first evening. After they all he asked was for us to text him each day and let him know which restaurant we would like to dine at the following day. Every restaurant we requested he booked us in and we never had any issues. It was a perfect way to make sure we ate at all the places we wanted to and he was really quick at replying and assisted where needed. He would text us once in The morning to say hello, and then every other day would catch up for a brief 5 minute chat to ensure everything was ok with the room and we were enjoying our stay. It was the perfect amount and not too much or invasive to our holiday or privacy. He was great with us. ||The restaurants- the Dorado was the hideaway private guests restaurant. We ate here fist night and the food was lovely and the staff are great in there. This was also the place we ate for breakfast every morning as it had its own menu with plenty of choices and on the beach front. A beautiful way to start each morning. ||The second restaurant we ate at was jade. This was a nice mixture of Asian food and depending on your love of Thai there were some decent choices. It was nice but we did not go back there as later we found out there were better choices.||We arrived on Tuesday and Thursday the sports bar was showing the football match (Newcastle vs Barcelona- I am a geordie). Was great in here and we sampled loads of the menu ordering a mix of starters and sides whilst drinking beer and enjoying the match (even though the result did not go my way) we loved it in here so much we actually went back and had another meal and drinks later in the week. If you like some American pub snacks and some drinking then it’s a decent little place to go. ||The next restaurant was called Zen and the star of the show. The food and ambiance was amazing blended in with theatre and fun. A tapenyaki restaurant which also served sushi. This is a must if you come here and we visited the restaurant twice. ||The other restaurant we really enjoyed was the Mexican restaurant based in the Royalton splash which is a 5 minute walk outside the hotel. There is a shuttle bus but the walk is nice and really not far so up to you. The food here was great, the staff were friendly and an all round great night. ||We did eat at the Italian but it was pretty standard. I personally think you get better pizza at the main buffet site and the pasta at the main buffet site is a build your own so also better option. We did not go back here but again this was our preference. We did hear other people had really enjoyed it. It just wasn’t for us||We ate at the buffet restaurant for lunch every day and there was loads to chose from. It was clean, food was hot and the staff were great. Perfect little place to have lunch. ||The room….. we stayed in 2128 with the swim up pool. It was on the end and really private. The room was really clean and the pool was amazing and warm. The sun shone over our room from about 12:30 to 17:00 every day so was perfect t if we wanted to stay and be private instead of going to the main pool area. The cleaners were amazing and came every day and asked if we wanted our room cleaned. The mini bar was stocked with 4 cans of beer (2 Heineken and 2 coors light) coke, fruit juice, 4 bottles of water with two extra outside, 7-up and Fanta. This was stocked daily but by a different member of the team and they visited in the afternoon,. If I am honest, we’re not big alcohol drinkers and I only had two of the beers on the second day. We used the fridge for water mainly and when we wanted alcoholic drinks we just went to the main pool bar which is literally a 30 sec swim, and then walk past the main pool. Whilst you are at the pool bar you will meet Juan who is so friendly, polite and just a really nice guy. He worked with a lady who I can only apologise but did not get her name but they were a great team. ||The one thing I I’ll say about the room is when it rained (which only happened one day so we were lucky) we woke up and our room was flooded haha. I opened the door and the staff came in with towells and helped clean it up straight away. As we were at the end and the rain came down so heavy it flooded the hallway and leaked into our room. It was a 2 minute clean up and never happened again. ||The main pool area was lovely and definitely adults only. It is in a private area so if hats what you booked then there are no children in this part. You can go outside to try the main pool area which was also amazing with loads of activities but the hideaway was private, also music and a great atmosphere with the entertainment team putting on games and shows throughout the days. ||There is a theatre which has daily shows every night. The production and everything about it is great. There’s a bar in there and they have something for everyone. Would highly recommend you check the tv in your room which gives all the breakdowns of each night and who is performing. Michael Jackson’s and the rock night were our favourites. ||The other place to mention is the on-site coffee shop with loads to chose from and cakes and ice creams. All included and completely free. Such a great place and little stop throughout the day. ||We booked one excursion to the monkey land and then the buggies. It cost £208 in English for the two of us and was unbelievable. The monkey land was safe and just a great experience and then we had a nice local lunch and then a trip on the buggies which was so much fun. We would highly recommend this if you come here. ||The trip we were after was a private vacation so me and my wife could relax and just enjoy ourselves. We got everything we wanted and more. We could not thank the team enough and would highly recommend to anyone coming that this hotel is a nice, clean and safe place to come with plenty activities and...
Read moreIf I could give this place a 0 star review I definitely would. Over half of the restaurants/bars that were advertised were either closed the entire time, or had crazy hours that were not advertised nor were they properly communicated with guests. The food that was being served was atrocious, and could be described as lunch cafeteria food at best. Not to mention the amount of alcohol they serve people, without properly feeding them is incredibly dangerous; we got sick the first night because we had no clue most things weren’t open. They don’t tell you anything, and no one seems to want to help you. Room service saved us multiple times and was unfortunately the only reliable means of food at the resort. Our rooms AC unit was busted upon arrival, and wasn’t fixed until day 3 of 5 when we had to get the manager involved. Staff was incredibly rude and not helpful (even the front desk), and it seemed as if they were hindering us on purpose after a couple of days of trying to get even the most simple of things like our mini fridge stocked, or our AC fixed. Also, we paid for diamond level(which is the most expensive tier) and it made 0 difference with how we got treated. Part of the experience details having a butler(among many other things we didn’t receive) or a “non contact service” where we could text what we needed and they would accommodate us. That was also a complete joke as our “butler” literally did nothing for us the entire time we were there, and at one point almost ruined an excursion we had planned on the 4th day of our trip outside of the resort. We didn’t end up planning this through the Royalton and had asked for transport from the lobby to the front (they apparently don’t allow companies not booked through the resort onto the premises) because the lobby is at least a mile walk to the front gate. Our pickup was at 12:30pm and they jerked us around saying they would arrange for a golf cart only to be contacted at 12:26pm by our “butler” saying they don’t arrange golf cart transport, which left my fiancé in tears yet again. So on top of misdirecting us all morning they seemingly tried to screw us over at the last second! Luckily there was a bus dropping people off right when we received that message and i begged the driver to give us a ride to the front. That was the most our “butler” did for us the 5 days we were there...which amounted to nothing and almost ruined the best part of our trip which had nothing to do with the Royalton. I swear this was the attitude of everyone that worked at the Royalton Punta Cana the ENTIRE time. “I could care less, and be happy with what you get.. which by the way is nothing”. Ultimately we went to the manager (Jasmine) after being consistently mistreated and lied to, and that ended up being complete trash as well. We were promised a dinner at a restaurant called Dorado with a special menu, and a beachside dinner as well. Dorado was traumatizing. We didn’t get sat where we had asked, and waited for 20mins before being served our cocktails. We then asked the manager Adrienna about our special dinner that Jasmine told us she called them about, and nothing.. We got glared at for 30mins, while not one waiter came up to us, and it was almost as if the staff there was told to mistreat us rather than help us. Needless to say we got up and left, and we walked to our pool entrance while my fiancé cried in my arms yet again. The manager (Adrienna) had the audacity to literally follow us to our pool entrance and glare at us with her hands on her hips while my girl sobbed, until we decided to get up and go to our room, and leave the manager standing there glaring at us. We kept asking ourselves “why is this happening” because the amount of mistreatment from management on top of the staff was so appalling. Needless to say the beach dinner was a bust as well, our food was complete garbage and we didn’t eat it. When we finally left the resort we were so relieved. DO NOT GO TO ROYALTON...
Read moreHi everyone. We are currently at the hotel, arrived yesterday. I will do a review vlog in the next few days but just want to let you know about the good things and the bad things so far… unfortunately many more bad and not so many good things… Pros: 5* drinks - Top shelf liquor 5* staff - Friendly English speaking staff 4* surroundings - Laid back atmosphere
Cons: 1* welcome - When we arrived after 14 hour journey we were dropped off at the reception of Royalton Punta Cana. We were told by the front desk to walk downstairs, straight ahead and look for a white building. That way we should find the reception of the Hideaway hotel. Not so easy to find if you’ve never been here as from outside there is no signage for the hideaway reception. We had to carry our luggages ourselves. No welcome drink also.
1* the room - the air con is not working. It’s set to 16 C but it’s really hot in the room. We struggled to sleep last night as it was around 24-25 degrees. We complained yesterday about the issue when we first got in. They said they have tried to fix the unit twice but no luck. We received a call at 22:00 saying they found us a room they can relocate us to. At that point we’ve been awake for 21 hours and were too tired to spend another couple of hours trying to move. Today we received an information that they will try to fix it again and if they can’t fix the unit they will move us to a different room in a worse location with a lot worse view! How exciting! They said it’s out choice if we want to stay in a hot room with a nice view or move to a coller room with a rubbish view.
1* the room - the fridge is not working and all the drinks are warm room temperature. Another one where apparently they tried to fix it but they haven’t…
1* housekeeping - when we got into the room we had no towels, no toiletries, no beers and no robes. I called them twice. Twice they confirmed they will sort it out. Today we still don’t have any beers or robes.
1* cleaning - the bathroom was dirty. It could really do with a deep clean.
1* service at the restaurant - we visited dorado last night and the waiter was standing in the middle of the restaurant during dinner service watching tiktok and truly enjoying himself. I wouldn’t mind that if we actually had a drink. Instead we sat there with empty glasses watching the waiter watching his phone. Not very professional leaving guests with no drinks and just staying on your phone watching entertaining videos.
1* the beach - ITS DANGEROUS! The beach is suffering severely from erosion. We’ve seen this issue previously in Mexico but it was fixed within the same week during our stay. It should be closed or fixed as its putting guests health at risk. The loungers are placed at the edge of the collapsing sand.
1* customer service - I emailed the hotel a week prior to our arrival telling them we will be celebrating our anniversary and asking if they will honour and recognise our special occasion. They said they have put the note on our booking ensuring it gets recognised. Walking towards our room yesterday we saw lots of decorated room front doors, some of them even had flowers outside. Well… our room had nothing and we were informed that there is no information on the system.
Restaurants- two restaurants are completely shut for refurbishment and the Italian restaurant is now serving international buffet style dining experience instead of Italian a’la carte meals. Therefore technically you are missing out on 3 restaurants experience. No communication on that prior to our arrival.
After travelling many Caribbean and Asian destinations varying from 3* to 5*resorts unfortunately I can confirm that so far the whole experience is so very disappointing. Would we book this hotel again? Absolutely not a chance. In our opinion it’s a waste of money and there are plenty other lovely hotels within the similar price range.
Hope this review helps you make a right choice for your...
