It was like settling in at my hone away from home. This was my 3rd visit to the property and once again they exceed my expectation. I will begin with the front desk experience. I was greeted cordially and professionally by Giselle. I love the fact that the front desk associates speak fluent Spanish and English. I was pleased to know that Giselle actually remembered me from my previous visit the year before. If you are an elite member they definitely acknowledge such and are sure to thank you for your continued membership with SPG. I appreciate the elite enhanced room upon check in. Diana Tosato the guest relations manager is sincere about the guests and their views. The entire staff takes complete pride in the Sheraton Santo Domingo and each member of the staff (too many to mention) takes the time to speak, greet, and ensure your needs are met. The staff interaction is genuine and sincere. The attentiveness of the staff is amazing. They speak and greet you with a smile upon entry and exit. The bell staff always takes the time to get you to your room and make sure your properly settled and answers any questions you may have. The rooms are well maintained and clean. The furniture is up to date. I read previous reviews and I will be sure to mention that there was no power outages and or hot water issues on any of my 3 stays at this facility over the past 2 yrs. The recreation areas are well maintained and the pool is comforting and like a mini oasis. The views are awesome. The location is conviently located by the water front fair ground, Colonial zone, historic sites, and night life. Once checked into my room there was a personal welcome back note from Mr. Luis Padilla which was greatly appreciated. This not only made me feel welcome but like returning home to family. They are continually enhancing and upgrading the premises. They have added a massage area out by the pool and done some updates to the grounds which show that they are maintaining the appearance as well as improving. It looks great. Pool staff was on point and didn't miss a beat. Magarita and Charly were ensuring your drinks and snacks/food at the pool was served well and timely. There is 24 hour room service with a variety of foods and yes, at affordable prices. Try the new steaks... Mmmm... I enjoyed my trip to DR but was blown away by the committed and dedicated staff as well as the well maintained grounds. The quality, service, and spacious rooms are what you would expect from the Starwood Brand at the Sheraton Santo Domingo and the staff aims to please. Thanks for making my vacation great. As you know I will be back when I return to Santo Domingo and look forward to another great, family orientated stay. Diana.... Keep up the great work with your staff in keeping the customer 1st. Your sincere and genuine approach to the job is...
Read moreFirst I commend Diana for her courtesy, professionalism, and hospitality. I greatly appreciated the elite status recognition and room upgrade. I most certainly enjoyed every amenity. The club lounge team was extremely professional, courteous, friendly, and treated me as an exquisite guest. They remembered me by name and were very personable. The snacks, and food was delicious and there wasn't a morning that I missed breakfast. The check-in experience was superb. The management did an excellent job with training the staff. I will never forget the services rendered by Gissele, and Vladimir and the check-in. They both were courteous, polite, friendly, and professional. The part that really shocked me is they had the same character not only at check-in but every time I entered or exited the hotel. If they weren't dealing with other guests they surely made it a point to greet me and ask if there was anything I needed with a huge smile. I also appreciated the services rendered by the bell man. He walked me throughout the room and made sure I wad familiar with every inch down to each light switch and the snack bar. He placed my luggage properly in place for my access to unpack. The room housekeeper was a sweetheart on the 8th floor. Even though I utilized the "make a green Choice" she was sure to greet me whenever she saw me and was sure to ask if I needed any water or anything despite the fact that I was going Green. Now that's commendable service. The recreational area's were remarkably clean. I see why, Diana was actively involved in making sure the areas were well organized and clean. There is an extreme sense of pride at the Sheraton Santo Domingo. Every member of the staff takes pride and you sense that they love what they do. There was no level of rudeness or unprofessional attitudes at all. Let's be clear I wish I had several gold recognition cards to hand out to several members of the staff that assisted in making my stay a memorable one. I will be visiting the area again and you can rest assured that when I do; I will be staying at the property again without a doubt. Spring 2015 I will return and look forward to the accommodations that I expect from this site. I will never forget this stay. My birthday was well celebrated due to the support of each member of the staff that I mentioned in this review for making it special. One last comment. Hats off the the top notch security team. As always the are very alert, focused, and knowledgeable. As for the power issues mentioned in previous reviews there were none. There is a back up generator on the site. The area does have power losses at different times of the day but not once did we have an issue...
Read moreOne reason the Sheraton is often my hotel of choice in Santo Domingo is because of the especially helpful and hospitable staff. I made a mistake and didn’t book sufficient nights and the hotels in this area were full. Leumi at the front desk and front desk manager Gisselle were cheerful about helping me, letting me know it’s a pleasure to help and not a bother. And of course it's a test of a hotel when something goes wrong, and it was my mistake with the reservation but it was solved with a smile.
The bellman Elias, Lisandro and others have a welcome that is unscripted. At some hotels it feels employees have to follow a tight, insincere script of friendliness. Here it seems natural. Congrats and thanks to the front desk personnel.
A plus is that the hotel has tall windows that open almost floor to ceiling. If one upgrades, is lucky, or is a Starwood loyalist one might even have a balcony, overlooking the sea.
The housekeepers invariably are nice, thorough, and sometimes provide little unexpected touches. For example on this visit a friend had a bouquet of flowers for me and the housekeeper took the fallen flower petals and adorned the sink and bathmat with rose petals.
At some good chain hotels, the sheets and covers are so so. Here the beds are super comfortable, with fine crisp sheets and bedding.
While the dining room has a wide variety in the buffet; breakfast I wish there were more of that Dominican warm hospitality shown. Upon entering the area - a “good morning,” or “welcome,” would be nice instead of a “what’s your room number?” mentality.
The club lounge on the tenth floor has nice panoramic views and the hotel seems to be trying to improve the offerings. Nelson and the other employees at the lounge are good.
Security is increasingly important in travel these days and it seems the staff is vigilant to protect the guests.
The pool is nice, in large area of the mezzanine floor. Few people are at the pool, so there’s plenty of choices in where to lounge in both umbrella shade or sun. The food is acceptable, though there are many really good restaurants close by the hotel.
The Sheraton’s location on the Malecon is excellent, while other hotel locations involve travel through streets choked with traffic.
Travel to the DR is usually good value and the people and music festivals are like no other. I’ve been to about 70 countries and think Dominicans are about the nicest. They seem have more happiness in their DNA than most anyone. Even though the bubble of all inclusive resorts are popular, I prefer to experience some of the reality and grit of being in Santo Domingo, but in the comforts of...
