PROS: cheap, so don't expect a Sheraton. Does the basics right. Secure, clean, hot water, basic linens. Enough closet space. Bathroom was fine. Well located, you can easily walk to the cathedral, the tram, and plenty of taxis around. There is a pharmacy immediately outside if you need medicine or toiletries. You can get a nice, albeit simple breakfast at Las Campanas a block away. An even better one at Raymipampa by Plaza Calderon, an 8 minute walk. Has Wi-Fi which could be faster but does the job. Breakfast is $4 or $5, not sure if it's good. The rooms do have a TV with local channels and Netflix. The staff varied between nice and very polite - they were good. Good value. CONS: for most Americans the rooms will not be what they are used to. Think Motel8 with older bedding. The mattresses are basic and lay low. The rooms are Spartan. Now if you are traveling as a couple or alone, a queen bed should be good. I have to say that it appears cabbies say to be careful at night in the area. My cabbie said the same. I DID NOT FEEL THIS TO BE TRUE. But I can imagine someone being very drunk and "losing" their wallet. I think prudent behavior will keep you safe. Cuenca in any case is FAR safer than Guayaquil where I normally stay. OVERALL: I would recommend for a traveler on a budget that wants something better than a hostel with a nice location, but doesn't want to spend $80 a night in the off-season. In our case, we were only using the room to sleep, so no point in spending extra money. We paid around $40. My next stay is on the beach, I want all the bells and whistles so I got a place for $200/night that's fabulous. Here I needed a bed and a shower. Since I traveled with the grimy kids, it did the job. If I were travelling with my wife, I wouldn't stay here just because we would want something more upscale....
Read moreUnfortunately we had a very bad experience here. It looked very promising for a good price, but we were disappointed with the room and service. Our main complaint was the room, which was in a terrible state (yellow stained sink, holes in chairs, gaps between floorboards, worn out bed cover) and most notably next to the busy market, The Tram (that rings right in front of the window) and Traffic light that makes an almost constant beeping noise. All of that starting at around 5:30am woke us up early every day. We tried to find a solution with the manager, but he just told us the hotel was full and „well that’s the category of room you payed for“. However if we would be willing to pay more, we could have an inward-facing room that would be less noisy. We were by no means trying to get a free upgrade, but it seems there is a focus only on making money and not delivering the service (a room to sleep in). For over 60€ per night you should certainly be able to expect that.
This was however not the only thing: After the cleaning the floor was still dirty The wifi was excruciatingly slow The toilet in the public area was dirty on arrival we had to ask for toilet paper twice because it wasn’t restocked the lamp in the room wasn’t working and had to be replaced the breakfast buffet as suggested in the pictures was only on sunday
I would highly recommend looking for another hotel or hostel, you will have a better experience and maybe...
Read moreTerrible place to be, I booked a 2 night and 2 days, but for external reasons I ended up checking in late, and they gave another room. Not the one that I booked, wifi didn't work, they located me in a room were the noise was high (there was a water pump and broiler right next to us) I requested another room but nothing was available (their explanation). The next day finally they gave the room that I paid for, but was still dissatisfied. The rooms are very small, and right next to a local market. Later on I found that the zone were the hotel is located is considered a red zone no bueno for tourists like me. When I was checking out, they did charge me an additional $20 for room cleaning services( something that was never mentioned anywhere in the contract), their staff was rude, and in the mornings there is no consideration for their guests. specially the ones and the first floor, because before breakfast they staff make a lots of noises with blenders, moving tables around, and listening to music at high volume. To recap everything this is not a good place for the money they charge for, their staff were rude, the rooms are small very small, the beds were not comfortable, our room did have any air conditioning or ventilation, if we decided to.open the window the outside noise its excruciating. I will not come back to this place, and I don't recommend this place to anyone....there are far more better options couple minutes away like...
