Margarit Boutique Hotel is an absolute gem, right on the edge of the town of Mindo so super convenient to everything. It’s just a few easy steps to town, yet also in a magical setting, backing up to forest and the river. Our room had sliding doors facing the forest that we left cracked open at night so we could hear the magical forest and river sounds. The shared courtyard is beautiful, relaxing, and was the perfect place to spend time getting into zen mode at the beginning of my long vacation. They had several hummingbird feeders that were constantly buzzing with a large variety of birds, and were also feeding fruit on a tree branch for other larger birds. The rooms were very clean, beds very comfortable, and the staff was very helpful. We were the only guests the night we stayed (rainy season), and they were still always available to answer any questions about tours and activities or call us a taxi. The person who helped us had limited English and we have limited Spanish, but we made do just fine, and if we were stuck we used google translate. They arranged transportation from the airport with a very nice driver in a newish pickup truck. We felt safe the whole time on the roads there and back. And their “continental” breakfast far exceeded our expectations, with fresh juice, fruit, eggs made to order, yogurt, toast, banana bread, and more. I am so pleased we chose this spot, as I don’t think we could have done better, especially at the...
Read moreWe were invited to stay at the Margarit Boutique Hostel for the South American Bird Fair. It was a great option!
The staff is friendly, helpful, and very professional. The atmosphere is comfortable, warm, and inviting. Added bonus - there is great wifi for those who need to work.
We stayed in two different rooms over our three nights so we can attest to the comfort of both the family set up (queen bed and bunk beds with large bathroom) and the couples room (king size bed, smaller but big enough bathroom).
I loved looking out our window in the morning to see colorful birds at the feeder. Breakfast was served in the covered dining area that is open to the river, trees, and birds. Truly, the setting is lovely.
We were able to walk back and forth with ease to the Bird Fair. Most places in Mindo were in easy walking distance. Taxis are easy to get for places further out of town.
I love the choice of breakfast - an American-European option or a traditional Ecuadorian breakfast. We tried tigrillo one morning and more pillo on the second. The third morning, the staff kindly packed a boxed breakfast for our early morning departure. They even placed hot coffee in our thermos!
While we did not eat other meals at the Margarit, they do provide dinner. We saw others enjoying ample plates of delicious looking food. Maybe next time?
Overall, I highly recommend this wonderful hotel. It is small (only 4 rooms), so be sure to...
Read moreHave you ever walked into a hotel room and been moved to tears because it was just so perfect? Is this a dream? I’m fairly well-traveled and I’ve never, on any continent, in any country, stayed at a hotel or airbnb I’ve liked more. Margarit Boutique Hotel was the highlight of my 3-week experience in Ecuador. Don’t miss Mindo. Don’t miss this lovely little hotel,
In the cloud forest of the Andes Mountains, you’ll find Margarit herself and the lovely community-minded space she has created. You’ll see Margarit in my photos together with her young daughter.
I took so many photos and videos from the open-air lobby where you are served meals and share the highlights of your day with fellow travelers and this lobby is steps outside of your room. I recorded toucans and hummingbirds daily along with the sound of the river rapids just beyond the way.
The bedding is so comfortable, the room exceptionally well-designed and the hot shower simply perfect.Margarit is local, charming, professional, and the real deal. Her staff loves her and it’s easy to see why.
The concept of this little hotel is outstanding and the implementation even better. You will be thrilled with this selection —...
