Full disclosure: I was concerned about noise and safety when I booked so close to the bus station. I was really pleasantly surprised when we stayed on Thursday and Friday nights (the night before the Saturday market!) to find that noise was not a problem at all; we were located on the second floor (maybe room 2-13?), a very large suite with three beds and big windows facing the street (perpendicular to the bus station). The rooms had a lot of unexpected details like thoughtful artwork and painted trim on the ceilings - even in the bathroom! It was simple, clean, and the management was so friendly that when we went to fetch something from our car in their secure parking (onsite at their home nearby) they invited my six-year old in to chat - and he stayed to help shuck corn, one of his favorite memories of the...
Read moreI stayed alone in a room with a queen bed and private bathroom at Mashy's one night at $12. The room and bathroom was excellent and clean, the folks at the front desk were kind and accommodating for anything I asked about. The location was perfect, practically next to the bus station, as I had an early departure in the am. There is a game room, stocked kitchen, and a roof deck (which I didn't see). My room also had a small balcony. Everything appeared to be in good shape - for this price I was impressed... I left behind my laptop power cables by accident. They kept them secure until they could be picked up a few days later... The only downside was that the hot water was intermittent in the early morning... Overall, an excellent experience for the price, I recommend...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our stay at Hostal Mashy's. The rooms were spacious and clean and the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was really well equipped. Staff was very helpful and assisted us with our laundry for $1.50 per kg. We found the location - steps away from the bus terminal - really convenient as we used Mashy's as our base to explore Ibarra, the crater lake and lots more. Our only criticism would be that there was only one bottle of filtered water for all the guests and it ran out a lot but we cooked and made tea and coffee with tap water and didn't get sick. If we ever returned to Otavalo, we would...
