We had high hopes of this hostel because of the good ratings on different websites. We arrived in the dark. To reach the room it is necessary to go 100 meters trough the garden. It was almost impossible to reach our room because the gooses in the garden where trying to attack us (could almost not believe that this was happening). Also there where a lot of insects in the room since it is an open room. We decided to book another hostel for the same night. If you are looking for a challenging authentic place to stay, this might be a place for you. If you search for some comfort this is not it. The staff was friendly though. Montanita is a party place with a lot of international party people. If you are looking for a more quiet place try Ayangue, there is also tourism but mainly locals. Read more· The host came across friendly, there was a kitchen facility by the entrance. The bed is huge and comfy. Shower was decent, not hot but okay. But.... Wow this place is noisy! Disappointed as other reviews mentioned it was a quiet place! First you get the pumping music from Montañita itself, then next door neighbours had music on 24hrs and the hotel grounds have about 7-8 roosters shouting all day long. Other guests were smoking pot which stank the whole place. There are no glass windows, only nets, which means both the noise and the smell make their way into the room unobstructed and there is not much you can do about it. Perhaps our experience is circumstantial but we paid a lot for the room and for that it was one of the worst value for money places we stayed...
Read moreI kind of can't say enough about how much I enjoyed my lengthy stay at Lumaga. This hostel is an absolute gem and is run by the kindest and loveliest family. Ever. It is in an ideal location, off the party strip but still central to everything and is situated on a large expanse of land that is a sanctuary for birds, geese, and iguanas. The communal kitchen is clean and well stocked with everything necessary to prepare meals. The rooms are immaculately kept, affordable, and the showers are hot. I had such an amazing experience that I stayed for 5 weeks. If you are looking for a tranquil oasis and a place to decompress from the party madness of Montanita, this is...
