We had an amazing time at Embrace Hotel in Luxor, which was one of the highlights of our stay in Egypt. Perfect for travelers looking to support an eco friendly and locally owned hotel. The ambiance of the architecture and grounds are atmospheric and romantic. The weather was too cold to use the pool, but the meditation building was great for yoga after a day of touring. The food was great (breakfast included, dinner à la carte) and plentiful. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with patios and a nice bathroom. Hot water is supplied by solar heaters which we really appreciated. Best of all was the staff, who were very welcoming and accommodating. We had a tour guide already, but they are able to arrange any tours, taxis, etc if you want. We really liked the location (it’s not on the main road from the ferry on the West Bank, so don’t panic when your taxi starts driving down a dirt road), close to antiquity sites and on a road of families who all know the owners and staff of the hotel. You can go for a really nice walk in the countryside to the west and south of the hotel without being hassled by taxi touts and vendors, which was great (This is not the case for any hotel on the east bank). Highly...
Read moreUpon my sister and I checking in we were met with 8 men hanging around the property. There was a very uncomfortable vibe to the place as women traveling. There was no dead bolt on the door and no peep hole on the door either. Once we got to our room we saw three cockroaches in span of 5 minutes. The pool was so green it would not have been safe to swim in. We decided not to stay after about 30-45 minutes on the property as we did not feel safe and the cockroaches were the last straw. As we were leaving we noticed that they only gave us 1 of 2 room keys as the other one was still at the reception desk. Not a good feeling at all. If you are looking to go to Luxor do not stay on the East bank - where this hotel is located especially if your are a solo female or a group of females. I’m not sure where we would have eaten if we had stayed on that side or how we would have gotten around. We ended up checking in to a resort with three restaurants, three pools, two security check points, and right on the river for only 23 dollars more than what the...
Read moreThis is easily the worst accommodation I have stayed in 15 years of travel, including youth hostels.
The room is mosquito-infested, suffers from power disruption and there is no housekeeping at all for the four nights we were there. I had to ask the staff to replace towels and provide toilet paper. There was also no kettle or bottled water, which we had in a more affordably-priced guesthouse in Aswan. The shower had only lukewarm water, which was challenging to use after nightfall.
Owner/manager was hungry for tips, and would pretend not to understand when you ask for change. (Not that I wasnt willing to tip, but I needed small change.) Rules for billing of expenditure at the hotel restaurant also changed midway. Initially it was payment of drinks at the restaurant and food at the reception, then subsequently all expenses at the reception.
The only saving grace - it is located in the West Bank near the Valley of the Kings, Queen Hatshepsut Temple, and hot air balloon...
