I very much enjoyed staying at Cleopatra, on the quieter West Bank (less hasslers!). The family-run hotel is truly great value for money. The room was nicely decorated, with a lovely canopy bed. The best part is the rooftop with a view over the West Bank, farm land, and temples and tombs in the distance. Here, it's perfect enjoying the huge and tasty breakfast, or also dinner if you wish, and chat with the other guests. We booked initially 3 days but in the end stayed on 3 more days. My boyfriend wasn't feeling too well for 2 days, and Nasser was so caring to make him special tea. One day I then visited Dandara temple on my own (train to Quena and then 2 minibuses - a bit complicated but worth it). The other day, Nasser's very kind brother Ahmud showed me more of the West Bank villages and farm land on the motorbike, and invited me to have lunch with the family. This was very special to me, and shows that they go beyond treating people like tourists to make money off. The first day, Nasser suggested a driver for a tour, but as we're quite independent travellers and also had plenty of time, we did everything on our own (Luxor & Karnak temples walking, and rented a bicycle to go to the valleys of the Kings, Queens and Hatshepsut. Btw- bicycle rental: we recommend Mohamed from the juice bar right on the corner when you come from the ferry and walk up the street on your right side). Nasser also never pushed for selling the driver or any other package, which I...
Read moreThe hotel is near the local big nile ferry stop (5Pound per person). Only a 6 min to walk very safe to walk with locals or by Tuktuk for only 30 Egyptian pounds or local bus 5pounds. Lots of friendly people around. Reception was very friendly and helpful specially Mahmoud which served us breakfast and was almost 24hours there. Also his friendly colleagues and the owner...you feel like a family member. Fair prices with breakfast for 2 person per night cost 500 egyptian pounds (usd 20$), room with balcony (Nr.112 sunset side) and with nice view to the fields and the near by Pharaohs horse and camel Stabels (they charge only 100E£=4$ per hour./horse) The Hotel is simple but has great price ratio...breakfast was simple with more view from the roof top terrace. For 500E£ = 20$ don't expect a 4 or 5 star hotel, changing towels or bedsheets daily or a big breakfast buffet..ok. Mattress are very good also very hot water...Staff are very accommodating and friendly, also its near in Laundry shop, Sawing shop Bakery, convenient store, hourse stable, outside the village you see lots of restaurant to fillup your hungry stomach at very low prices 😜 we come again. We had dinner almost every night during our stay at the hotel and it was excellent! The view from the terrace where there is a beautiful lounge/dining area, towards the Hatshepsut temple and the hot air balloons, is breathtaking.
Clean, tidy and well served, it is our favorite place in Luxor and one of the best when traveling in Egypt.
We will be back soon and recommend it without the...
