I'm an American living in the Faroe Islands with my Faroese wife and we decided on a "mini vacation" weekend in Torshavn. I'm a Hilton Honors member so we decided to give the new Hilton in Torshavn a try (I booked the room through my Hilton Honors account). The room was clean and nice, though lacking in amenities I've experienced in other Hiltons (mostly Stateside). I didn't notice any Hilton Honors Perks (but to be fair, I didn't ask for any). The TV had no access to anything but local channels (unless you happened to have an Android, but we are Apple users). The bathroom wasn't really separated from the main room (just a cubicle for the toilet and shower, with the sink out in view of the bed). Sound was a bit of an issue and we could hear kids running around above us until two in the morning (though that's more on those parents). The room got quite warm the first night (the temperature controls did nothing). On the second day we figured out the window could open and let in the nice cool air (to be honest I didn't look for it the first night since most hotels I've been to don't have opening windows). All in all we enjoyed our stay, but being forced to watch TV on our little iPads wasn't the best experience. There was a very small room service menu so we decided the second night that we'd have dinner in their restaurant and learned that many people book dinner there so I recommend reservations if you plan to eat dinner there. The hostess who took our reservation was quite nice and despite being booked with several large parties, she managed to get us a table for two and the food was quite good (though very pricey). All in all a decent experience, but not up to what I've come to expect at Hiltons I've been to back in the States.

HGI Torshamn Faroe Islands is located in the outer edge of the town, and about 45 minutes drive from the airport, FAE. The hotel has complimentary parking, and you are only a few minutes' drive away from the harbour and the city centre. There is plenty of shopping and restaurants a few minutes drive away, and the hotel bar is one of the best bars in town. The lobby level has the bar, restaurant, and pantry as well as a gift shop. On the second floor is the jacuzzi, guest laundry, and gym. The gym is a good size with all you need and a great view of the sea and landscape. The rooms are well designed and modern. There is plenty of room, good storage and it comes with great views. Hilton elite members will get one free slot to the jacuzzi area, and between 17-18 every evening, it is Honor Hour, with a free drink for Hilton honor members. Both food and breakfast are great, and staff very helpful. Overall all a great hotel for exploring Faroe Islands.

I was really surprised to have Hilton as an option for my trip to the Faroe Islands. I exclusively use Hilton for work travel and at this point I've probably stayed in 50 different Hilton brand locations in Europe and North America. With that experience let me advise: Do not let the Garden Inn branding fool you. This is far from a mid tier Hilton. I enquired as to why they didn't choose more premium branding and apparently it's due to certain amenity limitations based on the remoteness of the location. Fair enough, but it really does undersell this Hilton. The rooms are generously sized and nicely furnished. I was visiting to go hiking and had plenty of space for my gear. The staff were excellent and provided lots of advice about visiting the islands. While everything in the Faroes tends to be a bit more expensive, you get very good value for your money at this location.

The room is fine if there’s only 1 person. With 2 people sharing – there’s NO PRIVACY. The door into the hotel room opens in the bathroom area, so If you’re stepping out of the shower when your roommate is going in or out of the room, anyone passing by will see. There is nowhere to change clothes in private. |A sliding wall tries to separate the bed area from bathroom but not efficiently and makes a loud noise, which can disturb someone sleeping.|Shower stall has a door - no lock. Toilet has same door - No lock & doesn’t close all the way so your roommate hears and smells everything, no matter what part of the room he is in. The toilet flushes VERY LOUDLY – turbo flush and since there’s no real door, it will wake up the other person sleeping. The shower was large but smells like mold.|The toilet & shower have their own light switches. If you want to use the light over the sink, your only choice is to turn on all the lights in the room, which includes the bed area. So, if someone is sleeping, you can’t use the sink mirror.|The bed was comfortable.|Large closet - open to room. Bring extra hangers. Only 1 drawer in room; we had to pile our clothes on the couch. There was nowhere to put luggage. The second drawer has a safe with no room for anything more.|Window opens but we could smell cigarettes from outside even though we were on the 3rd floor. (Hotel has only 4 floors.) We didn’t need AC in August but that may not always be the case. So, I’m not sure if the AC works well; the lowest it would go was low 70s. AC is a foreign concept there. |Not a lot of TV channels in English, only BBC & Sky news. You can pair your phone to tv to watch Netflix.||General Pros:|We got breakfast included in the room price for about $20/day. It was a good amount of choices; had bread & cold cuts to make sandwiches for the road.|Supermarket/liquor store - 5 min walk. |In room: Refrigerator, Hot water maker with tea/coffee/sugar. No microwave.|Laundry – there is 1 washer and dryer that are free to use (and there was free soap!) but the dryer didn’t dry our clothes well. Bring extra hangers.|Not much of a selection at the hotel restaurant and bar but the cheeseburger & fries from the bar was good - $32.|Dinner and drinks are expensive. The cheapest gin & tonic was about $18. Sparkling water (bottle) is about $8.|You can get a free glass of wine (1/2 a glass) or beer at the bar between 5-6 PM.|We didn’t need local currency because everywhere takes credit cards and tipping is not expected. ||General Cons:|Not much within walking distance of hotel but the bus is free – you just need to figure out how to use it. The hotel doesn’t help with details or maps. No restaurant within walking distance. |Hot tub is about $20 per person for 45 mins. You need to make a reservation to use it. |Hotel ran out of wash clothes after 1st day. Ironing...

TL/DR version:||1. Lovely staff|2. The hotel did not feel like it was Faroese ( I could have been anywhere in the world)|3. The room layout and shower/toilet area was very strange to say the least.|4. Average food|5. Bad location (poor views by Tórshavn and Faroes standards).||============================================================||Long version:||The staff were really nice and friendly people, as you would expect from the lovely Faroese society.||Breakfast was good and sufficient options were available.||The hotel and accommodation was clean and modern.||And there was ample free parking available for guests.||I drove there and made the reservation using the Hilton app whilst standing at reception.|I made the reservation for a standard King room and then changed my mind and asked for a King with a view as the Faroes and Tórshavn can offer spectacular panoramas when the cloud lifts.|They made the upgrade for free (which I appreciated).||The King room with a view:|Comfortable beds.|Average size.|The view (and this is the amazing Faroes that makes you say "wow" every day) was not very spectacular. Other accommodation in Tórshavn (in which I have stayed) offer far better vistas over the town, the port and toward Nolsoy Island.||Whilst there was a space to hang your clothes, there was no actual wardrobe.||There was a separate toilet and a separate shower, (both by the room entrance door).|The shower room was not big enough for gown or towel hooks so that you could dry and cover yourself before exiting.|The wash basin was in the main living area alongside the entrance door.|This is a very strange setup, which was made even more strange by the fact that if you exit the shower (not fully clothed) as your partner enter through the entrance door to the room, then anyone walking past may see you.|This is a poor design and badly thought out in my opinion.||I had dinner at the restaurant in the and considered the food to be of a reasonable standard.|(I found the restaurant staff to be exceptional again).||Overall, a very average hotel.||It did not offer good value for money (in my opinion), due to the views (location) and the standard of the actual room.|I have a real problem with the layout of the shower toilet and wash basin.|I feel that this whole area could have been made into a proper (decent sized) shower room instead of two sperate rooms with a wash basin outside. Then guests could dry themselves and put their clothes on before leaving the small(ish) shower.||When I return to the Faroes next year, this accommodation will not be on my list of places to stay....

As a Hilton Diamond member, I booked two rooms for 5 nights at this hotel. At the check in, I was told that the hotel is fully booked and they can not offer any upgrade and I should continue to check about room upgrade availability every day. |It is high season at Faroe Islands, so I accepted the room.||Today, after dinner, I decided to check their room availability on Hilton.com (HHonors) website and ……… there were 3 types of available rooms with a view. |I did it also on Booking.com and the result was absolutely the same.|When I asked 3 minutes later at the reception, Maria, the receptionist, told me that she knows what Diamond member means, but she doesn’t have any available room for upgrade and I should speak about it with her Manager.||The most funny explanation for this situation, came on the next morning from the Hotel Manager. She kept telling me that their hotel reservation system does not match the Hilton.com reservation website and that's why Hilton's says Yes and the hotel's says No. We all know that this sounds absurd.||They did not want to upgrade you, according to a hotel guest, because it is high season and the hotel wants cash for their available rooms, not Hilton loyal guests, who do not pay with real money.||The hotel services, including in some Hilton hotels, are not the same as before. |Such people like Maria and her hotel manager, who most probably gave her the instructions not to respect Hilton membership but to look for cash, are one of the reasons for that and should not work in the hotel industry/Hilton.||Most probably after this comment, for a certain period of time they will stop ignoring the status membership, but still be careful when you check in at this hotel.||Nevertheless, enjoy Faroe Islands, one of the most beautiful...
