We booked a wonderful corner studio apartment on the 9th floor and we are so glad we did. Our 10-days there were highly enjoyable. Noli Sornainen is a comfortable, warm, quiet, and well-appointed place to stay, especially for those wishing to cook in their own studio - or on level 2 in the well-equipped communal cooking area.
The staff are helpful and friendly, and the views are great from the upper floors. The panoramic views from the 12th floor deck are spectacular on a fine day.
Sornainen is extremely well served by the Metro, tram, and bus network, and the HSL Android app will allow you to plan and execute your daily travels with ease. There are three small, but well stocked food markets within 3 minutes walk, with one right next door. Both S-Market and K-Market have great food options for all.
There are many restaurants within 5 minutes walking distance, and loads of bars if that's your thing.
The bed was firm, but comfortable, with a bamboo mattress topper or similar. The bedding materials are high quality.
The curtains are heavy, and work well to keep out the light in summer. It will be light when you go to bed, and light again before you wake up.
The small tap on your kitchen bench controls the water to the dishwasher. If the dishwasher beeps repeatedly it's because the tap is turned off. Simply turn on the tap.
The rooms are nicely and quietly air conditioned, but the minimum temperature is just 22C. We were delighted to have a large front-loading washing machine in our bathroom, so we could clean our clothes, and hang them to dry in the room, on the provided drying rack.
If you come from outside the EU, make sure you bring at least two power-conversion plugs, and a multi-plug board for all your electronic devices, as we did, otherwise you won't be able to keep all your devices and appliances charged and running nicely.
Very strangely, there are no hair driers in any of the rooms. There are 8 locations where supposedly communal hair driers can be found, but you won't find one. We asked at the front desk and they gave us a new one, which we returned at the end of our stay. Thank you!
There are plenty of ironing boards and irons available - if you want to look neat and presentable after you have unpacked. There was plenty of clothes hanging space in our large studio, but you'll want to bring a few extra coat hangers - as with most hotels.
The house-keeping staff were always efficient, and our room was always clean and tidy. They will happily provide extra towels if you want them. The shower water pressure is good, and the bathroom floors are heated, so always keep the bathroom door closed in summer, to prevent the bathroom heating fighting against the air conditioning.
We liked the multi-rubbish system in the hotel, and we felt right at home being able to nicely divide our rubbish into food waste, recycling, burnables, and land fill, which you take down to the 2nd floor basement area.
We loved having no TV or telephone in our studio. The in-house WiFi is strong, and we used a lot of data..
We really appreciated the relaxed and friendly atmosphere and people at Noli, and we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Thank you so much for having us.

Read moreThere was no option to open the windows for the purpose of ventilation. When we cook food we need to get the smell of the food out of the house. Had requested the reception, they made blank promises of checking for availability of other rooms, never came back. There is not enough ventilation in the room, it is just awful.
There is a switch just behind the bed wall, the switch position is so low it hit my head thrice during my entire stay. Poor designing.
The window curtains are not covering the full window breadth, interrupting sleep at night when there is still sun shining. These was basic, if there is a pilar coming in middle, something else should have been done to ensure the curtains cover full window. Again lack of application of mind for user experience.
There are no instruction manual inside the room for using various electronics like washing machine, dishwasher. It is always good to have it, because your office is working for limited time, and have to wait for there availability to get the knowhow. The electronics does not even have model name mentioned on it for us to find the exact model you-tube video.
Also the staff is not well versed with how to navigate the city, for any queries being raised, they ask us to use google. It is quite natural the guests would have googled and youtube the questions beforehand, but a verbal conversation with a local sitting at the reception adds much more value in deciding how to navigate the city better. I was disappointed knowing none of the reception was able to help me completely and was left with half hearted information and at the end had to still was asked to just google.
I feel as a hospitality industry, reception staff adds lot of value in how well they take care of the guests basic needs. In my experience with other country hotel staff, one thing stands apart is the reception staff was very well versed with the city navigation, and were very prompt in providing solution to a...
Read moreI stayed at Noli Sörnäinen for a few months while it was being renovated. This apartment hotel promises a good accommodation experience in the heart of Helsinki, but its promises are met with harsh reality. The hotel's location is central, but its surroundings and facilities leave something to be desired.
Arriving at Noli Sörnäinen, I was faced with an unexpected challenge: a vague crowd of drug users and other unruly characters stood outside the hotel door. Guests are expected to act as promoters of their own security arrangements, which raises concerns and immediately affects the experience.
The public areas of the hotel are far from what I expected. The dirt and grime are noticeable, with large stains all over the linen chairs and sofas. This gives the impression of a poorly maintained space, which detracts significantly from the visitor experience.
The room partitions are surprisingly thin. Sounds from neighbouring rooms, whether bed creaks, speech, or other noises, are carried into my rooms in a disturbing way. This lack of privacy and tranquillity detracts significantly from the accommodation experience.
The state of the hotel's rubbish room is appalling. Banana flies have taken over the room and are spreading an infestation. This not only raises hygiene concerns, but also has wider implications for the overall maintenance and cleanliness of the hotel.
It should be mentioned, however, that the hotel also has positive aspects. The gym and sauna are well equipped and provide a quality environment for relaxation and fitness. These areas are clearly better maintained than the other public areas.
Although Noli Sörnäinen has some attractive facilities, the hotel's main shortcomings in the quality of the rooms and common areas are unfortunately too significant to ignore. The hotel's overall rating suffers because of these problems, and it remains a sub-par choice in the Helsinki...
