Lapland Hotel Oulu has an excellent location only 200 meters from the town hall, 700 meters from the market square and 700 meters from the railway station. So everything is within walking distance, e.g. restaurants, shopping possibilities and main sights. It is also possible to rent bikes from the hotel (8 euros/3 hours, 25 euros/day).||||We saw Oulu Cathedral and Franzen Park from our window. The area is very silent. Sometimes you may hear the sound of church bells. We hadn't a balcony but most rooms with a balcony seemed to have an indoor balcony with view to the restaurant of the hotel.||||Our room with Lappish style was very cozy. We had a safety deposit box, a silent small refrigerator, an iron, an ironing board, a big flat screen television and a self adjustable air conditioning system. Air conditioning nozzles were near the floor, under the wardrobe. It was possible to adjust indoor temperature using the touch screen and also turn those nozzles manually to a different position. However, air conditioning wasn't very effective when it was hot outdoors. ||||Breakfast is always good in Lapland Hotels and especially here in Oulu. They had all the usual hotel breakfast foods but also several local specialties, e.g. buckwheat cereals, rosemary crispbread, malt bread with tar, beetroot hummus, dried cranberries, cloudberries, cloudberry jam, blueberry juice, cranberry juice, rhubarb smoothie, lingonberry-seed tosca pie, cinnamon buns, sour milk cake etc. Also alcohol free spruce sparkling wine was available but not every morning. However, I especially loved green smoothie made of apples, spinach and spruce roots.||||Oula Kitchen & Bar is the restaurant of the hotel and it is an excellent dinner restaurant. Read separate Tripadvisor reviews of it. There are also saunas (a free public sauna in the evening, separate for women and men, and a private sauna for 1-4 people with pre-booking and extra charge) and a free swimming pool (open from morning until evening) in the hotel. The nearby Fressi Gym is available for hotel visitors (5 euros/visit if you aren't a member of Lapland Hotels Club). Service was very kind in the whole hotel. I really recommend Lapland Hotel Oulu...
Read moreHigh quality modern hotel that emphasizes little bits of Lapland in the décor - reindeer skins, gold spray painted horns, and flower pots with gray twisted branches.
We stayed one night and used the overnight parking garage (+25e), which worked well, but they warned us that there were not many slots usually available.
Rooms are not too big, but nice enough. We stayed in a room with a sauna which was nice. TV was on side wall, which left us with turned necks. Room includes two tea bags and 6 Paulig coffee capsules. I went to the grocery to get some creamer and chips.
Being on the 5th floor we enjoyed looking out over the school buildings on the north of the city.
Restaurant was amazing - we had the 5 course surprise meal, which included little bits of exotic dishes in colorful sauces and various flavors inspired by Lapland. It was a three hour adventure we enjoyed a lot. I have never had lichen on my food before. My wife got the non-alcoholic matching drinks and that added a taste adventure.
Breakfast is also very good with bits of fish in glass jars and an omelet with reindeer and shrimp, with the exception that the pot of coffee they brought me was very mediocre - should have gone to an ABC! Coffee being important in the morning after all. Bacon was over crisp too. They had interesting green and orange smoothies in shot glasses!
There is a little pool downstairs and a sauna, but the pool was a bit... cold! Sorry, but that was a bit too much Lapland. Maybe saving electricity? We ran back upstairs to our own room sauna.
Great experience overall, we are happy, loses a start for bad coffee...
Read moreStayed one night while on business trip to Oulu. For the first time decided to try the Lapland Hotel, since my business friends have recommended this chain of Primary Quality hotels. Must say, I was amazed by the atmosphere, when I entered the hotel. It is beautifully decorated on a Lappish style, both the bar, restaurant and the rooms.|The service was something, I have never experienced in my home country, Finland.|Too bad, I did not have time to test the sauna and swimming pool....at least have something for the next time. The rooms are clean and beautifully furnished. The beds are comfortable, the bathroom was a bit small, but I could handle that minor thing easily. The nice surprise was the 10 euro voucher, you get, when checking in. It is good to use in the bar or in the restaurant. By the way, the bar has several special drinks, that we do not have in Southern Finland, which was super nice.|The last thing, that I want to express was the by far the BEST BREAKFAST EVER in Finland. It was loaded with special Lapland delights, that I had hard time of choosing, what to have. Everybody, who is planning to stay in Oulu, do not bother even look at elsewhere. Lapland hotel...
