When you read a hotel review you want to make sure that the person writing has experience with the resort and can provide an honest review of the property vs the rest. So many reviews are from people who do not have experience in the area. This is our 12th year in Val Thorens and we have stayed at every 5 star hotel (except 1). Our stay Jan 26- Feb 3 was EXCEPTIONAL! The room was very spacious, lots of room to put on ski equipment in the AM. sparkling and still water delivered every day to parch the dry altitude, plenty of products (creams etc. in the room), nightly turndown and exceptional cleaning crew (folded out clothes on the bed) Thanks Patricia! The ski room and slope access are the best we have had. Yes, it is a little steep coming down at the end of the day, but otherwise the lockers and slope access are the best! Thank you Luke! The Spa is amazing. Best massage I have ever had! Hats off to Eva. The only hotel in VT with 3 Jacuzzi/hot tubs including one on the slope, with bar service! (Matia, Clara and Arnaud make great drinks) Breakfast buffet is amazing, so much to choose from 4 types of eggs, pancakes, sausages, 6 kinds of yogurt! best Chocolate Croissant I ever had. Amazing breakfast service with Jean Michel (Mimi), out coffee service was delivered to us without asking. Dinner was equally incredible, Buffet on Friday includes Gillardeau oysters, beef tartare and so much more. Pastries by Stephan are absolutely the best, get the Paris Brest, he won a Michelin award for his pastry. Paul is the most amazing server at dinner please ask for him to get the best dinner experience. Pauline at concierge can make the magic happen, both before you arrive and while you are there. Don't miss the excursion to Chalet de la Marine and 2 Lacs! Best dinner on the mountain. I cannot forget the front desk Manon, Dana and Lucas who coordinated our luggage and reservations throughout the trip. As you can tell Pashmina is a special place. A Hotel is a building but this exceptional staff across the board make this an EXPERIENCE we will not forget. Special thanks for Cedric GM who assembles all these special people into one location to create an unforgettable vacation.

Alix Roche

Fantastic location. We have been staying @ the Pashmina for years. Definitely will be back next ski season. The only thing they need to work on is the kitchen. Lately they started to add an extra charge for small breakfast dishes like eggs @ EUR 9.50. That’s kind of silly for a 5 star hotel. Not sure who came up with the idea. Most 2 to 3 star hotels offer those kind of breakfast dishes for free. We had booked half-board as the years before. You can choose from three different starters and main dishes. In general quite good. While it gets dull to eat every day “French style haute cuisine” while being in the mountains. Sometimes, a rather local dish would do the trick. You can choose eating à la carte if you don’t like the suggested half-board dishes while they will charge you an extra EUR 20 per main dish by doing so. They have a top notch restaurant at extra charge for those who prefer Guide Michelin style dishes for dinner. We recommend not to book half-board. It’s not worth it. Book breakfast, avoid the EUR 9.50 extra charge for fried eggs, see if you like the offered half-board menu or eat à la carte. Bottom line pay for what you prefer - better value for money.

Many problems. Extremely uncomfortable bed. Sold as double room. In fact, 2 beds pushed together with a lumpy mattress cover joining the 2 mattresses, which meant that the join of mattresses pushed through lower sheet into our bodies. Completely unreasonable to charge Euros 3,277.40 for 7 nights- so cost Euros 468.20/night of terrible bed & breakfast. Lack of heating control: most hotels & even those that do not claim to be luxury, allow better control of temperature in room. We like to go to sleep and wake up in a warm room but have a cooler room in night. Not possible in Pashmina, as no time controls. So, in the middle of the night one wakes too warm OR it is too cold to go to sleep and when wake up. Shockingly bad and not what we are used to in hotels that cost Euros 468.20/night. Variable water temperature in shower: Varies massively & dangerously during showering, from hot to cold- so easy to scald oneself, as trying to get warm enough. This was not just one room, as we paid for 2 interconnecting rooms- one for our adult sons who had twin beds, and their shower did this too. Lack of food hygiene: The Pashmina Hotel has Michelin star in restaurant. We ate there on arrival & for breakfast every morning. My husband and I are doctors & were shocked at lack of hygiene, which would be a complaint even if nasty viruses were not presently circulating. The serving staff were all coughing & would cough into their hands & then handle food without any cleaning of their hands. One also coughed directly over food laid out on the buffet. This should be investigated so the Michelin star status can be removed. In addition to lack of hygiene in the restaurant, supplying requested drinks at breakfast would take 25 minutes. Orange juice, my preferred drink for breakfast, is not on the buffet. The coughing, unhygienic waitresses had to be asked for it. We were reassured before we booked that vegan milk was available for us, as we are vegan for our health and the planet. Vegan milk is available, and so is hot chocolate, but trying to explain to the staff and receiving 2 hot chocolates made from vegan milk was next to impossible. On the first day, Sunday, we were down at 7.30am when restaurant opened for breakfast. There was only 1 girl serving all guests, so she was very busy, and we waited 30 minutes for juice & hot chocolates. On both Monday & Tuesday we had to wait 25 minutes for drinks. So next morning I telephoned at 7.10am to ask for an orange juice & 2 hot chocolates made with vegan milk to be ready for 7.30am. However, on Friday when we arrived, we were brought hot chocolates with cows’ milk and a side jug of oat milk!! We had to wait another 15 minutes for requested vegan hot chocolate. We lost paid for time with ski guide, because we were delayed at breakfast on 4 of our 6 skiing days. One day woman on reception spoke NO English There were many other problems with the hotel- rugs that stopped wardrobes from opening, so we would move the rug out of the way and cleaners would put them back in the way. Duvets that were not warm enough unless room very warm at bedtime, but then as mentioned above, no temperature control. So, we tried to keep warm when going to bed with a bedspread on the bed. But the cleaners would remove that if they came into the room when we were out in the evening. If we had the room cool enough for later, in the night, we would be very cold when trying to sleep. In fact, the cleaners were quite good at cleaning, but very invasive on one’s space and privacy. Every evening when getting ready to go out for dinner, they would enter the room to ask about cleaning it. They didn’t do this at appropriate times or in an appropriate way. I wrote to the manage in French and had a completely unsatisfactory response. We won’t be taking our custom there again. It is a very expensive hotel and there are much better ones on Val Thorens. So, I advise you to try other places both as a hotel and for...
