Check-in was OK - if not a little sloppy. They put us in a room closest to the lifts and maids’ chamber, where people talked loudly and walked past all the time so there was constant noise (bad soundproofing). On the first night we realized the duvet sheets had a very bad smell, almost like they were not dried properly. Least to say we had a hard time sleeping comfortably. They changed the sheets the next day but we’d already had our bad night and would rather things were right in the first place (moving rooms would also have been an uncomfortable option, seeing that we had to pack and unpack again). Bedsheets were rough, bath towels left lots of lint everywhere (considering they are new towels - something for guests to consider when deciding to stay at a new hotel). There is construction in front of the hotel at this time of writing - not that this bothered us, although good to note.
We had dinner at their restaurant one night and the food was pretty good, so we went back the next afternoon for cocktails. One staff ushered us in enthusiastically when we asked if they served afternoon drinks. After that, we were ignored and were treated like we were invisible, with no attention or menu or whatsoever, while at least ten staff were setting up the tables / cleaning / chatting around us. After 15 minutes I got up to ask for a menu and the staff finally brought one to us in a second. We were the only guests in the restaurant that afternoon. Requests for water to several male staff were met with their acknowledgement but they never came. Finally a female staff brought our water after we voiced our displeasure (was it necessary?). We would rather they told us ‘no’ to the water if they never intended to come, than to keep us waiting while watching them go about their business after telling us they would bring it. We felt very disrespected by the nasty experience that afternoon.
Safe to say it was overall an uncomfortable stay topped with very sloppy service. Finally, this review was posted after their newsletter email prompted me to. In it I was addressed as ‘Mr’ once again, despite correcting their ‘Monsieur’ to ‘Madame’ in their first welcome email. It’s all in the details and this hotel and its restaurant have a long way to go in providing good...
Read moreService could be more personal. It felt a bit like being just a number, even though the room was very expensive. Upon arrival, there was no one to help with our suitcases. When I asked, I was bluntly told: “we don’t offer this service” something you would not expect from a 4-star hotel. In addition, we paid €30 extra per day for the garage. We were simply handed a key and told to find it ourselves. At check-in the lady at the desk reminded me that if the key wasn’t returned, there would be a €50 fine. Again, this felt impersonal. Why not provide a simple entry card, or at least have someone guide guests to the garage? The whole reception area felt somewhat cold, massive, and impersonal. We had booked one of the most expensive rooms (Mezzanine room, approx. €650 per night including breakfast). To our surprise, there was only one relatively small side window in the master bedroom, which significantly reduced the lake view we had expected. The room itself was luxurious and clean, but this was quite a disappointment considering the price and the location. The location is good, within walking distance of the lake and the city. However, the busy road in front of the hotel does take away from the charm it would have been fantastic if the hotel were directly on the lakeside. That said, we had already noticed this when checking Google Earth before booking. On the positive side, breakfast was very good and the outside restaurant was enjoyable. If the room had cost around €250–350 per night, even in high season, we would have rated our stay much higher. At €650, however, the overall experience did not meet the expectations one should have at this...
Read moreWonderful Stay in our Balcony Lake View Room||Our room features a beautiful lake view with a large balcony overlooking the bar, which is located at the hotel's lovely terrace with a lake view. I enjoy watching people socialize at the terrace with their drinks from the bar or play Bocce Ball. ||The Pelican Hotel is located near the old town, about a 5-minute walk, offering a lake view and an excellent swimming pool. This is perfect for me. I initially considered "The Imperial", but the Pelican has a better location and an outdoor pool, which is fantastic. The Imperial has an indoor pool and is not within walking distance to town.||I am thrilled to discover that my room, complete with a balcony and lake view, is the only one of its kind in this building, making it truly remarkable. While the room may not be large, its stunning view more than compensates. The cafe on the ground floor is a lovely addition, where we had our lunch, breakfast with croissants, and coffee. The arrangement is well-designed. My dinner at T O'Bon Bec was superb, featuring the finest sweetbread I have ever tasted, while my husband's duck was equally delicious. |After a round of golf at Golf du Lac & Golf des Alps, a leisurely swim in the warm pool was pure bliss. ||I would like to thank the front desk staff, particularly Jane and Boutha, as well as the entire Le Pelican Hotel team, for their exceptional service and making our stay so enjoyable. I will definitely return to this hotel. Moreover, our outdoor parking next to the hotel was convenient, with a daily fee of £20. It is worth the price ! ||Love my Stay at...
