I’ve been to Montgenevre 4 times over years and this was my first time skiing in 7 years as well as my first solo trip (and first visit to MMV) I’m always a little hesitant going somewhere solo as you’re left to your own devises to figure everything out. I arrived in the morning (with checkin being at 5pm) but the reception were really helpful in letting me store my bags in the morning so I could get out on the slopes (Huge thank you to Vincent on reception it clearly gets busy at check in time but the man was juggling everything like a champion).
The place can be a little bit of a maze but once you’ve found your ski store and settled into your room it becomes extremely easy. The facilities are amazing, the apartments are really nice (I had a 1 bedroom apartment and for one person it’s plenty of space) I’m pretty sure wherever your room is you will have some amazing view of one of the mountains.
Being a typical Brit and only speaking English isn’t a problem they made it so easy. I would 100% recommend this place.
It’s ski in/ski out, although the mountain at the back of the valley was closed owing to the warmer weather so skiing back in wasn’t really an option, in which case be prepared for a bit of a post ski walk if you’re visiting in similar conditions (but it was still ski out) and still very manageable.
The ski/boot room was well heated so you’re not going to be putting on cold and wet boots in the morning.
My only advice to anyone looking to stay is: the sound proofing in the apartments isn’t the best so if someone is making noise in the corridors you’ll hear it but generally it’s on a nice secluded spot right on the edge of Montgenevre. If like me you booked self catering make sure to take toiletries and the main reception is only open in the morning and then the evening after 4:30pm again wasn’t a problem but if you have a question for them you just have to time it right. It was a bit of a walk to the nearest shop however reading other reviews I may have missed a closer one so just stock up the first day that you go. I of course was a solo travelling adult but if you have kids or are learning yourself and you need to start on the beginner slopes with the magic carpet then you’re probably looking at a 20 minute walk over to those but otherwise you’re in a great spot for a ski lift.
Any communication I’ve had with them over email both prior and post visit has been met with an extremely quick reply.
I also hired skis and boots from “skiset” (I booked through Heidi and that’s where they sent me) which literally backs onto the hotel which was perfect. There’s also a ski pass place another 100m on but I highly recommend asking someone to talk you through how to add each day onto the recyclable passes that are available, I would just add it on in the morning each day and it worked immediately.
But for me it was the perfect trip and the best holiday I’ve had in years.

Read moreThis is our 3rd time staying here, having previously been satisfied. We booked a two bedroom, 6 person apartment for the 2 of us to give us extra space. We spent most of our arrival day disputing this with reception, they insisted we had only reserved a one bedroom apartment, even though we showed the confirmation. They insisted we hadn’t paid, and charged us again, we later showed our credit card statement and were refunded, probably causing us an exchange rate loss. When they finally accepted we had booked a 2 bed they said they didn’t have any left and wouldn’t give us a refund and didn’t apologise. They did show us a room that clearly no one else wanted. The manager got involved occasionally when he wasn’t running away and hiding, he spoke in French very aggressively and we had to ask him to calm down. The room was of a reasonable standard, heating did not work very well, wifi connection very poor, generally a good supply of hot water, although not on two mornings, the room was clean and linen clean, bed and sofa bed had very old uncomfortable mattresses. The hallways are very grubby not the standard expected of 4 star accommodation. The spa area is very tired, missing tiles, broken wooden seating in sauna. After two days we tried to book the free session at the paid spa but were told it is fully booked, the spa receptionist didn’t even ask how long we were staying. When we asked for a toilet roll we were told that regardless of length of stay, size of room, number of guests, you’re only allowed 2 rolls. We are very unimpressed with this accommodation, the management really could improve things a great deal if they were given some training, especially in...
Read moreWhat could have been a happy stay was spoiled by poor service and even greed at check in and a number of other improvements could be made. Our party of 9 (including 5 children) had 2 rooms booked. We arrived around 2pm but rooms weren't ready so we went to collect skis and lift passes. When we returned at 3.30ish one room was ready but the hotel wanted 40€ to allow us to check in and use it! This attitude and tardiness seemed to pervade to all and the lobby was full of disgruntled guests. They eventually let us in around 4.30 , but the 2nd room wasn't ready until nearly 7pm. Why on earth wouldn't you let people in, like any normal hotel?
We were short of towels in the room too, though they did give us some from reception eventually, after being regarded with suspicion for asking.
The pool area is chaotic and was severely overcrowded when we used it. No doors on changing areas and the absence of lockers didn't help and when I returned from a swim my son and I were missing our t-shirts. We returned later and found them on the floor thankfully.
It's hard to believe this place was purpose built as a ski resort hotel when you visit at the locker room. The linear design with very few seats makes it difficult for all to get ready and out at popular times. It could also be improved by some heating or ventilation to help dry boots and perhaps pegs to maker better use of locker space.
Room itself was fine and reasonably equipped. The hotel is conveniently placed for a supermarket, with takeaway pizza and hot chicken options. Also SkiSet ski hire and the smaller of the town's two ESF schools. It's close to slopes on...
