I wish I'd listened to the few recent bad reviews that had been written about this property and kept my reservation at our original small boutique, well-rated BW affiliated hotel. However, given we were only staying a night and that it was offered for a reasonable number of points for as a Bonvoy reward, I took the jump. Elite members used to decent Marriott-branded hotels, spend the extra points and choose one of the other Paris hotels (the Westin, the other Marriott or the Renaissance). ||I can confirm that: ||-AC or the hotel's ventilation system currently doesn't work. Windows don't open. We had the vent blowing on "high" and it was just recirculating air. I have a travel clock that's also a thermometer. We never managed to cool the room below 24C. It was around 13 or 14C outside that night. Shouldn't have been that hard to cool down the room by 2-3 degrees to sleep well. I love the thick feather duvets Marriott uses, but not when the room can't be cooled down to 20-21C. When I called the service hotline, I was told they were having issues with the system and it was what it was. No offer to even bring up a fan. Nothing. It was a "oh well, too bad" attitude. ||-We also had toilet issues. Our toilet flushed poorly. You had to hold the flush button for at least 30 seconds to properly flush anything. ||-Platinum/Titanium elite members, forget about receiving any value or being recognized here. I don't expect an upgrade to a suite or the top corner room every time I stay. I understand hotels do what they can with what they have available. Their inventory shows "executive" rooms and diffetent types of suites available. We booked a standard "Paris view" king room and received a "Paris view, high floor" king room. The way the floors are built, the elevators are in the middle. There's around 15, maybe 18 rooms to the left or right of the elevator lobby on each floor. Our door was 4 doors away. Couldn't even be bothered to place us further away. That was my minimal expectation. No slippers or bathrobes in rooms here. Poor shower pressure. Good luck washing your hair if you have long ones. ||-Front desk: The coldest reception welcome I've received at a Marriott in a long time. I swear if Bill Marriott was still CEO, properties like this would get a call from HQ to review their staff training. We are French Canadians. The agent was struggling in French and answered us in English a few times even though we were clearly not English speakers. That was extremely odd in Paris. No mention of Bonvoy status, only that, and I quote "breakfast is not included. Because of your membership, you can take the continental buffet tomorrow morning at the restaurant. Normally, it's not included, but we don't have a lounge at the moment". Jeez louise, I felt like I was being handed a favour... ||-There's a "Bonvoy Elite" line for the front desk, but it was neither manned or enforced in the evening when we arrrived, or the following day at check out, where the line was all the way to the front door. Thankfully, app check out was an option and thankfully also, we had no billing issues to tackle. ||- Asked for a 13h00 check out time when we arrived. I was told my platinum benefit of late check out did not apply at Conference properties. When the agent must have clearly noticed my irritation with her answer for a one-hour extension (I wasn't asking for the room until 16h00), she changed her tone, told me she'd ask a supervisor, typed a few things on her keyboard and said she could do 14h00 at the latest. I once again reiterated I only needed 13h00, probably more around 12h45. She then acknowledged this wouldn't be a problem. Just bad service really. ||-Pros: Comfortable beds with the usual great Marriott duvet and pillows. Breakfast staff welcoming and friendly, though even the coffee is self-service. Really, it's just a giant cafetaria, though it does have good choices. Absolutely no one came to offer anything. Unlike what the agent stated at check in, it is not a continental breakfast, it's a full buffet with hot and cold options. ||If I had paid the 250 Euro+ rates they were charging, I wouldn't have been disappointed, I would have been fuming. With 1,847 hotels in Paris according to TripAdvisor, do yourself a favour and be wiser than I was, pick something in the top 25% of reviews and have a much better stay than me and my partner had. Until they fix their "reopening" challenges management keeps mentioning, stay away. I even got the Marriott survey one gets to evaluate their stay around 5% of the time. When you don't rate them highly, management usually sends you a reply, ackowledging the issues you encountered. It's been around 4...
Read moreIt's day one of five. I traveled 20 hours to get here. The reception experience was fine. I slept to recover. I woke up at 10pm to start getting ready for tomorrow morning. I have to leave the hotel at 5:30am.
The scene is set. Now, the awfulness begins: In a nutshell, the service after check-in is non-existent.
I'm very hungry. I tried ordering room service through the Marriott app. The app had a problem. No worries; apps sometimes fail. It turns out "no worries" is an incorrect thought in this case.
I tried calling room service from my room phone. It didn't work. Annoyed, I tried calling the front desk numerous times. Sometimes it rang through and nobody answered. Sometimes is gave me a busy tone. I tried every option on my room phone. No luck.
I called the hotel with my cell phone and selected restaurant. The fellow who answered told me I had to call reception to order. I explained the challenges I was experiencing. He transferred me. It rang and rang and rang and eventually disconnected.
I reported this through the app. The automated message assured me I would get a response soon. It's well over an hour: No response. I doubt they'll ever respond.
I repeatedly called the hotel from my cell phone. I finally got somebody at reception! Yes, no... no to my yes... He asked me to hold a moment and simply laid the phone down. I listened to him serve others for nearly 10 minutes. I hung up. I called back multiple times. No answer.
During this time, I also decided to iron clothes for tomorrow morning. The iron worked about two minutes and quit. I've tried calling the front desk numerous times. Nobody answered. (Edit: I unplugged the iron awhile and now it works again. I guess it's times out after about 5 minutes. And now the ironing board keeps collapsing).
There's zero possibility I will ever stay at this hotel again. As a Marriott Rewards Gold member, I'm questioning everything about Marriott in this moment. I know that's an overreaction--that this is an experience at one hotel, and I've had plenty of positive experiences at other Marriott locations for 25+ years.
I do know the experience in this hotel is terrible. I'm starving. I need to iron my clothes. I have only a few hours to sleep, and what Is started two hours ago really isn't started. I haven't even been here 24 hours, and I will never return...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel bring a Marriott Gold member and that it's location was within reason of all of my points of interest e.g. the Louvre. The hotel is within walking distance of the Metro and about 10min East of the Catacombs of Paris. There are plenty of cafes and market options within a 10min radius; however, more quaint restaurants with better ambiance are at least 20min. In terms of the stay, I had a deluxe room facing Paris. The room itself was spacious with typical amneties of a safe, mini fridge, etc. the bathroom had a small separate room for the toilet and large bath space with a tub and shower. My first impression was the room was not the cleanest with evidence of some debris on the floor and tables and spaces not wiped. The bathroom mirror also had mirror silvering all over it (red spots I thought was mold but is actually silver degradation in the mirror). I did notify the front desk of the cleanliness issues, and they were very receptive to look into it. Overall though I feel for a Marriott, these should not have been present. With that said, the rest of the property was very clean and presentable. There is a gym onsite with a stretching and cardio area with bikes and treadmills. There are about 6 cable machines for upper and lower body workouts, and there are two inclinable benches with dumbbells maxing out at 28kg. I feel most fitness enthusiasts can get a good workout in. For food options, there is breakfast in the morning on floor 2 that comes at an extra cost if not part of your stay. Note: same place for lunch and dinner which I did not try The breakfast had a large variety of options from meats and cheeses, fruits, cereals, yogurts, crepes and pancakes, bread and spreads, hot items like sausage and scrambled eggs. For drinks there was milk, juices, espresso machines, and a filtered water station. The area was clean and had lots of seating space though I found to beat the crowds come prior to 730 if possible. Hours are 0630 to 1000. In terms of staff, all I interacted with from concierge to waiting, and cleaning staff were very pleasant and cheerful. Overall, I feel this property is about average due to location and cleanliness, but believe it or not a fair bargain per night compared to other options in Paris. Just expect to Uber or use Metro to hit the...
