(A bit of my perosnal opinion) I know the staff will respond to this message, and they won’t acknowledge or even recognise my opinion as they did to other people who have left a negative like review. But the reviews are meant for the hotel aswell as for the prospectors, honest reviews of the people who have sojourned in the establishment.
Hotel staff: Comes of rude, but compliant. Nothing to say here more…
Waiters: when they bring the food, they slide the dish on the table (not serve, slide), also it seems like the waiters in this establishment don’t have any training, our company was sitting in a line made out of tables, the waitress that was serving our table I assume she was so lazy that she couldn’t even walk around it, she just reached across the table to place the dishes.
SERVING THE FOOD APPROPRIATELY, THATS THE BASICS IN ANY RESTAURANT.
Food: (I’m big on food, so I will focus on this part more.)I will start by saying - plain water tastes better than the filth that they serve and call food. Morning buffet never changes you always have to chose from three types of baked goods (croissants, pain au chocolat, pancakes), cheese, ham, cereal. After few days of eating and seeing the same food you need to force it down, no other way. In the evening they always served us with the starter - soup, first day it was carrot and leek (what I can say, you can for sure taste the whole of the leek, EVEN THE FIBRES) it got slightly better later in our stay. Although they gave us salad with vineger (I should say vinegar with salad, because thats what it tasted like). Surprisingly, somehow all the food no matter the different ingredients in them, the kitchen managed to make it all taste the same, I’m also talking about the deserts somehow they taste like the main dish…(taste was so blank, white sheet of paper has more depth to it) We were served a Tiramisu there once, but really it should be called “French tiramisu” since it had no lady fingers in it, instead of them - christmasy cookies dipped in coffee and the cream was so thick it could even be whipped cream. At this point it can’t even be called a tiramisu. Sorry excuse of using “only fresh ingredients” doesn’t make up for the fact that the food is bad. Two people in our group found hair in their “pistachio cream”, talking about the cream it had no taste of pistachios. One of our members couldn’t eat nuts because of allergies, instead of said cream she got yogurt with sugar. I know I come with harsh words about 3 star hotel. But the taste of food and services of the hotel is terrible (this is France for god sakes). If this wasn’t enough, hotel staff didn’t sell glasses for wine for people in our group (it is so frustrating since France is known for their wine culture), subsequently they also sold us expired orange juice (it had a spoiled taste to it.” Also a family in our group planned for a young girls birthday, hotel forbid them to bring their own birthday cake and instead gave them the tiramisu, it was the same tiramisu which I talked about in this paragraph. Fifth day there our food was so disgusting its obnoxious, we gos some ingredients all boiled in the same pot (if you wanted you couldn’t even force it down - inedible). That day we waited for each course for an hour…, one of the waiters ring fell off close to the food. Last day of our stay we got some edible food, I assume it was only because we all complained to the manager. I highly don’t recommend this hotel just for its food. If I could I would close the kitchen and release the head chef.
Rooms: Members in our group, who were not a family, just friends (ordered rooms completely separately) got placed in the same rooms. Me and my dad ordered a room which was suppost to be two beds, 26 quadrants. We got 3 beds and around 12 quadrants.
In conclusion - highly don’t recommend, the food is tasteless, inedible. Smell in the evenings is terrible. Services...
Read moreBooked three family rooms direct with the hotel, children were free and it was a full board price of 960 euros per family. This was a great deal. Hotel is located bottom of a piste, which was so convenient for lunch, as we left skis outside and ate a lovely salad and grill lunch. As France is so expensive we often try to find full board options and this did not let us down. The only concern for us was the childrens food for evening meals, as we had fussy eaters. The Hotel however did provide us with a childrens menu, which we had to book in advance at reception, so we eventually were sorted. Not many staff spoke English but the couple who Managed the hotel were fluent and helped us out. Another helpful aspect was the ski hire shop was accessed from the hotel ski locker room, staying at les carrettes entitled us to 20% discount, also shop staff were really friendly and helpful when we asked them to dry the kids boots for us. All in all one of our best ski holidays to date, Valmeinier is a great location and we found we could ski over to Valloire and be back for lunch. The run behind the hotel which takes you to the other side of the valley at 1500 was great the younger children loved the Girodiere piste over there, which we always had to ourselves! Some of our Party were first time skiers and were really impressed by the number of green runs available for even the highest peaks. A must run to do (with a hot chocolate stop) is the Selles, marked blue, however this is a easy long glide which takes you around the mountainside. I would certainly return to Valmeinier as we had glorious weather and a big dump of snow before we arrived. Another tip for transfers, we used skicab.com the cost for a mini bus for 8 was 460 euros return, including ski carriage and child seats, half the price of other major companies and the taxi was on time for both ways. Highly recommended. Overall a good hotel in a...
Read moreThis is a hidden gem in Valmeinier 1800. We have been coming back to this hotel every year for the past 6 years. Here are the reasons why:
Ski in - ski out hotel. I never like the idea of carrying ski and walking with ski boots Location location location! It is so close to the main ski lift and ski school. Very plus point when you have kids that take lesson with the ESF A superb ski rental place is literally on the basement of the hotel which is about 5 meters to the ski lockers. So you can just rent and return at ease - no need to carry those heavier equipments back and forth Ski lockers have been recently upgraded with boots driers and code lock Hotel offers full board option. We can spend our precious time skiing instead of shopping / queuing for food, cooking and washing up! Every meal is super delicious with generous portion. The room is spacious, clean and comfortable. We always stay in the room with balcony. The bathroom is also bright and clean + bath tub. Hot water is abundant. Receptionist, bar attendants and hotel staffs + owners are always there to help with any queries This is a super children friendly place with child care facilities and entertainments The lounge, though small, is very nice and welcoming with fireplace, pool table and football table. Every hotel staffs are excellent and always go out of their way to help you. Some of them do speak English!
