A fabulous stay in a quirky, modern and welcoming hotel with friendly staff, a central location, comfy beds, good showers and great breakfasts!
Stayed for two nights with Mana Shelter in Toulouse; our 10 year anniversary being the first evening. The staff welcomed us and we're very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. After exploring, we checked in and found a lovely bedroom, with a comfy bed and great shower. Toiletries provided were lovely, including a hard soap shampoo and body wash bar. The staff had personalised our mirror message to say "Happy 10 years" and had decorated our bed with a little heart garland - very sweet and really made it feel special.
Roof terrace was delightful, lovely cocktails and some wonderful skills from the smiley and friendly staff. We didn't sample the pizzas (not enough time!) but they looked incredible too.
Breakfast provided so much choice it was almost overwhelming! Eggs (scrambled or boiled), streaky bacon, sausages, hams, cheeses, breads, crepes, deep American pancakes, cakes, croissants, pain au chocolate, apple pastries, cereal, fruits (the usual fruit bowl as well as watermelon slices and melon chunks, fruit salad, jams, honey, chocolate spread, juices (grapefruit and orange), flavoured water (incredible - a must try) and a coffee machine. Also loose leaf tea, with sustainable bags / strainers etc was a lovely touch. There was even a juicer with a selection of fruit and veg available (I was keen to see someone put it to use but alas no takers whilst I was at breakfast)!
The decor was quirky and wonderful, all the spaces were so thoughtfully put together and to he red light in the room with the Tweety pie and Darth Vader masks have us a giggle!
Well situated to explore Toulouse but also a hotel that gives you everything you need and more, so you might never want to leave! Thoroughly...
Read moreWe booked through Booking.com, not realising that it was part of the Accor group. We could see that it was going to be slightly different but weren't sure what that would mean. As we were booking this as part of our Rugby World Cup tour, we didn't spend too much time looking into details so it was a really pleasant surprise when we arrived! We had a really easy check in with a friendly team. The rooms were certainly bright with a bright red hallway, good lighting (even with cartoon character masks on the bedside lights) in both red and white! As we arrived in the evening, we went for a drink and ended up staying for dinner...what an experience! There was a 'Love boat' theme with all the staff dressed as sailors and a DJ playing some really good music. Partway through the evening, there was a 'pub quiz', with some great compering and engagement from most people in the bar/restaurant. The food was very nice and clearly freshly prepared. We had quite a mix between the three of us and all was top notch, the team were even happy to cater for my request to replace the strawberry ice cream (minor intolerance) with a different one. The roof-top terrace was quiet and very relaxing during the day but was buzzing in the evening. There was an interesting little shop in reception with lots of 'Mama' specific merchandise, t-shirts, caps etc. We did ask about getting one of the 'Mama loves rugby' t-shirts that the team were wearing, but it turns out that these were only for staff as part of the rugby world cup theme. We did suggest that we gave a one-star review unless we could get one, but they just laughed, and we could never be so cruel when we were looked after so well! We didn't get to use the cinema, but would have done to watch the rugby, if we weren't already at the ground or out for the...
Read moreMy wife and I enjoyed a short stay at this hotel a year ago, so when we returned to Toulouse we naturally booked again. Unfortunately, the second visit was disappointing in a lot of ways.||The rooms are funky and cool, but they don't actually function that well for a multi-day trip - no closets or drawers, just some small shelves and a rail for hangars. Having a chair in the room would be really nice, too!||The staff seemed extremely disengaged, as opposed to the friendliness of the first visit - the notable exception was the gentleman in the restaurant at breakfast, who was charming. ||The restaurant and bar were the biggest issue. Bartenders seemed unfamiliar with making drinks - common cocktails were completely wrong. Menu items were frequently unavailable - "No, you can't get the cheese, we only do desserts now." Tried to get pizza one day for lunch - "Pizzeria" is written on the front door, there is pizza in the menu online or via QR code, there's a picture of a pizza on the web site - "No, we don't serve pizza!" Wanted a drink in the bar one afternoon, and the few tables dedicated for the bar were occupied (large round tables, three with one person on a computer each) - they wouldn't let us sit at any of the other 25 unoccupied tables because those were for food only. I will say the breakfast buffet is very good, though.||Housekeeping also a bit spotty - rooms were clean enough, but coffee/water/toilet paper replenishment were erratic - and if you needed something they had forgotten, you had to go to the front desk for it, no-one was bringing it to the room for you.||All in all, we're sorry we didn't investigate other hotels, and would not stay at a Mama...
