I loved everything about my stay at Riho in Ushguli. The hosts were super nice - the check in was super easy and pleasant, they gave us an early check in. Rooms are of decent size and very clean! The entire family was accommodating and caring. I felt like I was part of the family. One of the family members, who is normally based in Tbilisi but spends his summers in Ushguli, offered us a free tour to local sites, told us stories about Ushguli, and the Lamaria Church where King (or Queen) Tamar had gotten married in the 12th century. He also offered us free horse back riding tour. The breakfast was delicious, especially home made pancakes and corn bread with cheese which was exceptional. The location was perfect for us - we wanted to stay a bit away from the village buzz, so it is one of the farthest out home stays in Ushguli, very close to Lamaria Church. But again, Ushguli is tiny - so everything, including the 'buzz' places is within 5-15 minutes walk. The hosts gave us a great recommendation for the dinner too. In short, I wish I could have stayed longer and explored more!||||There are no private bathrooms. But the common areas and bathrooms are extremely well kept and clean. I did not feel much discomfort because of that. Plus, stunning views and incredible hospitality take all of your...
Read moreLocated at the upper end of Usghuli in close proximity to Lamaria Church, the accommodation offers the perfect starting point for tours to the Shkhara Glacier. On the way to the glacier you come by at the art museum of the painter Fridon Nizharadze, which you should definitely pay a visit to. Here, old Svaneti symbolism is interwoven with surrealistic motifs. Likewise, the Ethnographic Museum is just 1 minute away.
The hosts are absolutely fantastic! Anyone who hasn't experienced Svaneti hospitality yet has an opportunity. Be sure to book breakfast for 20 GL - there is a new surprise on the table every day. Horses can be booked for tours and the nature is breathtaking at 2200 m altitude.
You should take some time with you to let the deceleration of the world take effect on you.

Read moreWhat a fabulous place: ideal location at the top of the village with stunning views in all directions; meticulously clean bedrooms with comfy beds and good hot showers. Two nice balcony seating areas to relax in with a cup of tea. Sadly Natella speaks no English but she more than makes up for it with her warm smile and copious quantities of delicious food - certainly not the meagre portions mentioned in another review. She even let us help milk the cows and showed us how she made her cheese and yoghurt, fresh every evening. We enjoyed a thoroughly entertaining dinner, even with some enthusiastic singing from Simon and his father Roland, who is clearly proud to have featured in Stefano Tolz's documentary 'On the edge of time'. Excellent value and just a shame we didn't have time for a guided walk with Simon. Thank you so much for a...
