I don’t think I’ve ever been so contradicted about a hotel before. Overall we had a good stay but there were some signifiant negatives! |Positives |- great service |- nice reception area with selection of drinks. Nice little patio that we sat in each evening - you’lol see why in a mo|- perfect location! We love walking and from here it was about 5 mins to brandenburg gate and the reichstag. |- 8 mins away walking from the main train station that we headed to from the air port|- great river front bars about 10 mins away |- clean room |- comfortable bed |Negatives |- I don’t know if this was my fault but I can’t remember seeing anything about a train line. We were in room 217. Half the hotel is literally on the train line. We aren’t talking about uk trains either. I grew up near one and live on a main road so noise it’s not usually a problem. But… this is some heavy duty loud train and they are every few minutes all day every day. They stop I think between midnight and 4am but it is relentless. You do get given ear plugs and you need them. |- it was hot when we were in Berlin and there is no air con. We had all the windows open and to be honest it was lovely but the noise, my god. We avoided the room until we were so knackered we passed out. We sat in the courtyard or found a nice park somewhere and had a few drinks so found a nice way round to manage. But you cannot get away from it, and as I mentioned I live on a main uk road. This was like being strapped to the underside of a train and no joke. Even saying that though, because we were walking 16 miles or so a day we did sleep well. We got woke up when the trains started again but my Sony headphones were a saver!|- we booked the hotel because it looked quirky and arty. Our room was white with a few black spots and a picture of eyes. It was tired with marks on the wall etc and just didn’t look loved. I think we could have got a better hotel for the same price if not cheaper to be honest. It was a nice hotel in its own way but the charm and the location just wasn’t enough to cover the noise and the lack of excitement about staying there. I thought the hotel would be quirky and unusual and it just wasn’t. ||Would I stay again? No. £333 for three nights. We had a nice stay but I think that’s because we loved Berlin. The hotel itself...
Read moreA quaint little hotel in the heart of Berlin.
Situated a few minutes away from the central train station; very convenient. The tram is a bit far from the hotel but all the basics are a stone's throw away (coffee shops, restaurants, supermarket, pharmacy).
The building itself is directly beside the train tracks so it's a little loud. The hotel doesn't claim to be the quietest in the city and obviously, those rails aren't moving anytime soon so I can't even begin to understand why people come expecting it to be a meditation oasis.
I stayed in a room facing the courtyard and the trains didn't bother me at all. If you're a light sleeper and can't stand the trains, try to change the city's infrastructure or put on some ear plugs. Just saying.
The room itself was clean and comfortable, had more than enough luggage space, a full-length mirror, desk, adequate lighting. There was a divan which, like the rest of the furniture, was old (being old not necessarily a bad thing) and therefore quite lumpy. Didn't really use it except to put on my shoes, so it doesn't affect my rating. I even thought it made the room look more cozy.
I wasn't crazy about the art in the room, but I think that part of the fun of booking here is not knowing what room you're getting. (Note: if there's a particular one you'd like to have, you can ask if they can put you in it).
The shower was clean, had poor ventilation. As with other places with windowless bathrooms, the problem is easily solved by opening the door and windows in the adjoining room to let the moisture out.
Sufficient heating, crisply made beds. No strong, obtrusive scents from cleaning agents. Just plain old polluted Berlin air and the smell of wood in a house that has properly been lived in. Not sure if there are rooms accessible to wheelchairs. Creaky floorboards.
Downstairs, guests can help themselves to some drinking water, coffee and beer. I would have preferred non-carbonated water, which they didn't have, but I found this station to be a pleasant surprise.
The front desk was friendly and laid-back. Everything ran smoothly, from reservation to checkout.
The hotel's greatest allure for me lies in its character and whimsy. It really is one of a kind.
Had a very lovely stay. Will be back the next time...
Read moreI would like to start with the experience i had during booking , i had my booking via booking.com and scheduled payment which i had missed or overlooked , i usually pay upfront for my bookings. However when the scheduled payment didn't get through 1. may be sometimes my bank needs my authorization or 2. sometimes i put away my funds in vaults due to online scams that has happened over time since i travel and use my cards online, i received an email to update the bank details which i did as soon as i saw within1 hour of seeing it , instead of another attempt my booking was cancelled which was not a very good experience as we had journey planned ahead . although hotel accommodated another direct booking at the same price which was a nice gesture , Hotel lobby is nice also the outside garden sitting area i would say , nice garden , trees and greenery however the room was not so nice - unusual room structure which we could have ignored but there is not basic stuffs like a mirror which is important , cooler that doesn't really help as the air doesn't blow through all sides of the bed . If we leave the window open , it is so noisy due to the train station being close by all night the noise was unbearable but the heat no air circulation was also another discomfort . Ofcourse we miss to also check the shared bathroom which is also not comfortable but for overnight stay its tolerable . what i didn't like was even after the windows were shut the noise was still so much from the road and train station , so we barely slept that affected our journey forward . i wish the room had sound proof windows atleast the ones that faces the train station. the least a traveller can ask is a good sleep, internet didn't work one bit up in the rooms, although i did complain about it as soon as i checked in but the person in the reception said he cant do anything about it . The WIFI should have worked whilst i showed him the pop up while connecting to WIFI saying the connectivity is slow / weak and the router should be reinstalled . Rest of the experience with the other receptionist or people concerned at the day of check out was nice very accomodating - two gentlemen -they were helpful...
