I would start by stating we had stayed in this hotel prior to it reopening under new management. We were aware that it is a five minute walk to the tram stop and then a 15 minute tram ride to the City Centre- not “spitting distance” as per the website.||Arriving at the hotel on a Friday afternoon after a stressful battle with the Brussels ring road, adding over two hours to our usual journey time, an unwelcoming male receptionist condescended to check us in. My wife is a fluent German speaker so this was not a language issue. Payment must be made in advance and be aware should you be daft enough to stay here, that payments under 150 € must be in cash! (Hello German tax authorities). We were asked if we wanted breakfast- when we stated this was included on THEIR WEBSITE which we had booked through, this was categorically denied – LIE 1. ||When the receptionist insisted we must tell him “NOW” whether we wanted breakfast, we declined.||When we finally found our room, we were confronted with a bathroom door that had been forced open making it impossible to close/lock the bathroom door. Considering this unacceptable at any price let alone 105€ per night, I returned to reception. I was informed that the receptionist WAS AWARE but as we had a superior room and besides with Photokina on (Europe’s biggest photographic equipment exhibition) only family rooms were available- and we could not have one of those. We were later informed we had been offered an alternative room –LIE 2. However, receptionist promised that the door would be fixed the next day. Not wanting a confrontation and being quite tired following a horrendous 11 hour journey including the Ferry crossing, I accepted this in goodwill – in fact it was LIE 3||The following day I returned to the hotel about lunchtime, basically to have a rest prior to going to dinner in the evening. The previous day’s driving had caught up with me. My wife was with friends in the city. The door had not been repaired and I was told such repairs are NEVER carried out at weekends. I was annoyed I had been lied to and suggested that at least a complimentary breakfast (which should have been included) should be offered by way of an apology. This was refused but 30 mins later the receptionist called to say I could change rooms. I was tired, on my own and did not need the hassle. Still the complimentary breakfast was refused and I was told any complaint must be by email…which goes to reception anyway. On our return we did email the management who unsurprisingly did not respond (LIE4) and we have now referred the matter to the Cologne authorities.||Whilst the hotel may claim to have had a refurb, it is tatty and dirty in parts with areas of carpet missing in our so called “superior room”. Additionally, the staircase adjacent to our room amplified the sound of anyone using it night or morning and my only hope is that Hotel Lorien’s demise cannot come soon enough! Avoid at all costs unless you wish to stay in possibly THE WORST...
Read morePlease read this warning about this hotel!! Don't stay at this hotel. It needs major renovations and repairs. This hotel is a dump and the rooms are very low quality. You will be disappointed if you stay in this hotel. Giving this hotel a rating of 1 star or more is an exaggeration! Wasted my money on this low grade and low budget dump! I should have known better. And the receptionist is hardly never at the front desk!!
I'm am very disgusted and disappointed in the quality of the room. The room presents both health and safety concerns for me. See the pictures I posted that shows my disgusting room.
When I checked into my room, here'swhat I immediately saw:
Shower covered in mold - significant mold was all over the shower doors and inside shower stall
Large visible mold stains were on drapes and on the corners of the wall
The sheer curtains had cigarette burn holes and were covered with food stains
The bed linen had body soill stains on pillow case and comforter - gross!!
Next to the balcony window there were blood stains that covered the wall near balcony door and window.
Throughout entire hotel there's viable mold and peeling paint on the walls, door ways, etc
7)The hotel has filthy conditions inside and outside of hotel room
Patio covered in filt and mold was around the corners of exterior door
The wire to the safe inside the room was cut so guests can not store any valuables in the safe.
Room did not have a smoke detector
viable patches in wall from prior damages
Carpet had odor, stains and was extremely dirty.
Wall mounted TV did not work
Hotel guest were hanging out in hallways making excessive loud noise next to my hotel room
Hotel key was in poor condition and someone physically wrote the room number on the key with a green marker
Dining area closed only opened for breakfast. What a joke and inconvenience this crea8for hotel guests
Hotel has a foul odor when you exit from elevator
Broken bathroom mirror
lights dont work properly in room and bulbs blown out that need to be changed
Hotel restuarant only serve breakfast, it's a full restaurant but it's never opened. The hotel guest must go out to eat.
Worst hotel experience ever!! I paid nearly $600 (U.S. dollars to stay in a total dump) The hotel refused to give me a refund and did not compensate me for the inconvenience. Instead they offered me another room was also has a number of issues, including broken sink, no air conditioning, blown light bulb in bathroom, stains in curtains and they only give you 1 bath towel!! WTF!
Glad I bought my own towels from home. Do yourself a huge favor and pass on this hotel! Its not worth the headache and...
Read moreWell, I don't know where to start. I gave one star for 24 hours available check in (precisely, after 2pm) and few parking lots in front of the hotel. I could bear the room's old fashioned interiors and lack of amenities such as slippers. But there were two or three hairs on the washstand. Isn't it one of the basics for hotels, keeping cleanness of a restroom? Anyway, even until this point I was not going to leave a review for this hotel. The most unpleasant thing has occurred when I was going to check out from the hotel. I tried to pay the money with my credit card, but it was prohibited by an unfriendly employee at the front desk. He said that they accept only cash for paying less than 150 euro "due to the hotel policy". What kind of hotel policy prevents guests for paying with a credit card??? As I didn't have cash at that time, I had to withdraw some money from an ATM which was at a gas station across the street. This was totally unpleasant experience and I wouldn't go there...
