I was expecting the latest innovation mixed with a comfortable style in the beautiful center of Germany's second largest city. My expectations were unfortunately not met. The location is practical if you wish to use the main train station. Thus, a hotel well-located for public transport. However, the area around the hotel was dirty and unwelcoming. One needed to walk for a while in order to reach clean streets and nice surroundings. The reception area was big and unwelcoming. Uncomfortable seating area. No water or coffee for guests while waiting. The hotel room did not display any new innovative feature. The style of the room was contemporary, but no "WOW" effect. The beds were ok. The fitness center was fine. I was expecting a pool. Many business travelers book hotels with access to pool areas in order to get a fresh sart in the morning, or a well-deserved relaxation after a hard day's work. Breakfast was at average. The hot food was good (eggs and beacon), but the available croissants seemed to have been purchased at a local super market, "big and extremely dry" (uneatable). No fresh cut-fruits. 2 very slow coffee machines (good quality), but forming long queues, and thus disturbing other guests trying to grasp some food within the designated areas. At the bar, the staff did not seem to care much about the guests. No snacks and/or peanuts were available. Do not ask for snacks - the reply was to "contact reception" (???). The lights were unevenly distributed, with very dark corners. No cosy style, no candles. The young staff throughout the hotel premises seemed somehow nervous, and not well trained. Engaging in English seemed to be a challenge for many staff. Only one staff managed to smile and seemed to care about the customer. No sense of being in Germany when October festivals were starting in Munich and other places with many Germans celebrating the event - also in Hamburg. Thus, a very neutral experience.... If you wish to get a warm welcome with style and great comfort, I can strongly recommend the Courtyard at Hamburg Airport. A much better...
Read moreShocked to hear when I wanted to pick up my room key, that I am not allowed to have a room and would need to stay at another hotel as they are fully booked. No compensation offered as a Platinum guest. Reservation #97032526
I arrived at the hotel around 1 pm, Room was paid for and registration done, but room was not ready to be occupied that early, so just left my luggage and went on to do my business appointments. Upon coming back after my business dinner, I get informed by front desk employee Dimitri, that I can not have any room. There are still 2 rooms left, but those will be given to later arrivals, that are staying longer than me even though they don't have bonvoy status. Excuse me, what? I was shocked, especially being a Platinum Marriott member and having spent 448 nights at Marriott properties that I would get such low priority. Strangely enough, my online checkin via the bonvoy app worked, but i still couldn't get a room. Dimitri organized a new hotel and called a taxi.
Front desk employee was not able to tell me what compensation I would get. he just handed out the business cards of the managers (Daniel WInkler, Bianca Hayessen). Calls on their mobile were left unanswered. It really felt bad, that the front desk employee exactly knew how to prioritize guests in such a situation, but had no clue (or didnt't want to) what compensation I am eligible for. Seems like this happens more often. Then the taxi driver started stressing about his long wait and also front desk was pushing me to leave as he couldn't do anything about it.
I wrote a note, to document the situation and accepted my faith and moved to the replacement hotel (further away, not marriott brand, holiday inn) as it was getting late and I was super tired from the long day.
I think anyone can relate and can understand that this is definitely not a recommendation to stay at the Courtyard Marriott Hamburg City. That is not how...
Read moreTo find the right Marriott hotel in Hamburg for a week's stay, I first looked at the reviews from the last few months on Tripadvisor and Google. With the exception of two Marriott hotels the reviews do not look like they motivate you to book. I was really surprised how bad some reviews were and that for hotels that I know at least by name for a long time. I booked at the Courtyard City and was positively surprised in all areas. There is very strict attention to Corona regulations. In the gym, only a maximum of 2 people are allowed to do their workouts at the same time and you book your workout slots at the front desk. The gym on the 6th floor with a large window front has 3 Technogym treadmills and 2 other cardio machines and an area with weights. At breakfast there are also different time slots and the staff is very careful that only those come in for whom a table is available. The spacing between the tables is sufficient. There is a special buffet with fresh fruit and one with fresh vegetables, or special salads. Around the egg dishes are offered everything that you would expect in an international hotel. There are also alternating specials, whether with eggs or something else - this is not boring if you are in the hotel for a week. On weekends, there is an additional area with fish variations. The offer is really top. The staff is very friendly and they constantly make sure that nothing is missing from the buffet. In general, all employees from the reception to the breakfast area and also housekeeping are very friendly and motivated. We enjoyed our stay very much and can...
