Stayed here for 2 nights in July 2025. Not a great experience. It already started at check in: They couldn't find my booking while I had the confirmation on my phone. This was in the afternoon and there were 3 staff members behind the frontdesk. Instead of manually adding me to the system, I had to cancel everything myself and rebook via their website. Not the best service, but I could live with that.
The real issue happened on my second night. I arrived at the hotel around eleven-ish. Everything was dark and, unlike the evening before when I came in around twelve, the doors didn't open. The only thing visible was a doorbell with illuminated button with the word "Reception" on it. So I rang it; something I’ve done before at other hotels with late-night security protocols.
The conversation went something like this: Staff member (who could see me standing in front of the door from behind the bar): "Hello?! HELLOOO?" Me: "Hi, could you open the door for me please?" Staff member: "WHY?!" Me: Confused and a little offended "What do you mean why?" Eventually, he decided to open the door and was incredibly rude. Staff member annoyed: "Did you already have a booking or do you want to book right now?" Me: "I'm staying here." Turns out you can open the door with your room card, but it's not really visible in the dark. Me: "Maybe you should inform people about this at check in. Nobody told me this."
Of course it could happen that someone forgets to inform you at check in. Of course we could have a misunderstanding about the door and of course safety at night is important. Who knows, maybe they've been robbed before by a small woman like myself.
For me, the problem was his aggressive "WHY?!". If the staff member had answered the intercom with a little more friendly "Good evening, can I help you?" we would have had an entirely different conversation. If I were a new guest who did want to book a room for the night I would have left right away because of his hostile attitude.
I travel frequently and I'm not one to be easily dissatisfied with a hotel, I'm happy as long as I feel welcome and the staff is friendly. That wasn't the case here, and that is why I won't stay there again. In retrospect, I should have taken the fact that they couldn't find my booking as a sign to leave.
Advice for future guests: never ring the doorbell! (Unless you like...

Read moreNote that the property does not, in fact, have functioning air conditioning, as advertised. And it sits between a very busy road and the repair yard for the train station, so even the deepest sleeper is likely to be woken up during the night with the windows open. ... During the cooler months a perfectly nice place to stay, and great value for money, but in the summer I would absolutely avoid it.
(I stay at this hotel regularly, and three weeks ago I told the front desk that the air conditioning in my room was not working—he first kindly put me in a different room, which then had the same issue, so he said he would report it and it would be fixed right away the next morning. It wasn't. Last week, I stayed there again, and ... still no air conditioning. Only the heater works, which is pretty baffling when it's 30C outside. I asked again this week, and this time I was told by the front desk that they have made the decision to deactivate the cooling option for the air conditioning as a money-saving issue. The fact that it took three tries to get an honest explanation is clearly problematic. If they were honest the first time, I would have simply cancelled all my remaining summer bookings there, and I'd find someplace better ... which is now what...
