Do you know the feeling when you enter a house and feel strangely at home? Being a child of the 70ies I had exact this feeling when I walked through the door of the Retro Design Hotel in Langeoog.||||This frenzy of furious design does not stop outside the lobby or the more public areas but exceeds in the rooms. We were staying in the "pink room" (no connection to the "red room" featured in Twin Peaks - luckily) and it was really, really pink. Every room has a colour scheme complete with matching wallpaper and furniture. Unfortunately the furniture is not vintage but "only" retro but hey... who could afford to dash out an entire hotel in real vintage furniture?||||Rooms are not spacious. According to the 4-star-standard there is just too much furniture squeezed into them. You will find a bed, a desk plus chair and an armchair plus stool, a TV set and a Hi-Fi-unit (ready to be connected to your iPod or iPhone) but: nearly no room to move inside the retro dream. ||||Talking of equipment and amenities: Free WLAN is available in all areas, you will find the magazine "Architectural Digest" sitting on your bed table, the first filling of the mini bar (4 soft drinks plus 2 bottles of water) is free and a vide variety of sweets (all of them very 70ies style) waits at the front desk all day long.||||You really need to like the design to be happy in this place - it's not decent, but up in your face. Breakfast is served on rather stylish tablewear in a very colourful breakfast room complete with a dazzling disco ball. Food consists of any kind of meat, cheese and fish that you might like, the assortment of bread, marmelade and honey is astonishing but stay clear of the eggs - no matter if you take the scrambled eggs from the buffet or order them freshly made: they won't be hot, but only mildly warm.||||Coffee comes out of a professional coffeemachine (which is accessible until 6 pm), but you have to prepare it yourself. The choice of teas is impressive and you are free to pick up a pack or two for the late night cup in your room.||||For dinner you need to go out to one of the restaurants in the "city centre", which is only a five minute walk away. You will reach the beach within three minutes and the train station in ten minutes. The Retro Design Hotel is a little bit off the beaten track but talking about a small island, the whole island is off the beaten track...||||The spa is not inside the hotel but you are free to use the spa of the Kolb Lifestyle Hotel, which is ten minutes away. Remember to bring your bathrobe, because you won't get one there. And you have to bring it back afterwards, too - for me this is not the best way to deal with this issue. The spa area is very nice, indeed. Although the pool is rather small, everything is squeaky clean and you have the choice between four different kinds of saunas. The areas to relax are spacious and you can even lounge in a water bed and sip some "energised Grander water".||||In the whole hotel there is room for improvement. Housekeeping was not worth four stars and the whole staircase was blocked by dirty laundry, fresh laundry and garbage bags every morning. A substantial part of the tablewear during breakfast had cracks, service is not available at all times and all places and during wintertime the whole floors look rather messy due to salty and sandy footprints.||||Apart from that, the service was really top notch. Everyone was excessively friendly and courteous and we felt at home from the moment we entered the building. This is also true for all the other hotels and restaurants that belong to the Kolb group.||||If you are looking for a very special place in a remarkable design and are prepared to bend the rules of four-star-hotels a little - then look no further but book your room in the Retro...
Read moreThis is a really sweet hotel with very friendly and a helpful team. Our contact, Frau Tracksdorf, could fulfill our every wish. My wife had a birthday during our stay there and they decorated the table for us and bought a nice flower bouquet for me. Just great.||||The rooms are not big, but just efficient and sufficient. It's perfect for couples that love to be out in the nature and just sleep in the hotel. A few extra m2 would make it more luxurious, but the price fit the quality and we're very happy!||The breakfast lobby was fantastic. You find everything you need and everyday they have some different sweet stuff. During the day the bar stays open so you can drink a cup of tea or coffee when you come back from the beach. Free of charge. Nice touch.||||I can recommend this hotel to people who love to enjoy the beach and like to come home to a characteristic hotel. Don't expect luxury, but you will find a great hotel(room) that offers...
