PP Pension Potsdam — Hotel in Potsdam

Well, as an already Potsdam resident I picked this place for one night only for the price. I had an expectation due to all other comments and as a result nothing was surprising.

Pros:

Price: It is unbeatable. I made the reservation on internet and the price was almost half of the nearest price.

Location: If you are visiting Potsdam as a tourist, it's location is really good. It may be located on one of the very few "hills" of the flat city but you can reach to all the important points and transport in a 5 to 7 minutes of walk.

Parking: The place doesn't have its own garage or parking area (they don't even have a Pension sign outside, which I will come to that in a minute) but the street and surrounding streets almost always have free parking spaces which is not very common in Potsdam.

Rooms space & sound: Since I have seen only one room but regarding my room and all the other comments, yes this place has really big rooms and lovely high ceilings which makes the room feel bigger. Regarding the sound, this can be both pro and con. Since the building is in a very quiet street, it is really really quiet. But since the walls are not thick or the doors have so many gaps, you can easily hear your next door snoring in your room.

Cons:

Rooms: Rooms are old. All the furnitures, carpets, wardrobe are all old. Which can be ok if you think that the building is as well old so one can say all together it gives a rustic feeling. One would be right AND wrong because of the dust. Spiderwebs. Spiders. Since I got so used to spiders and webs as a Potsdam resident but you are expecting a bit more cleaning when it comes to carpets, wall corners etc. So if you have a dust allergy or overall cleanness is high priority, you may think twice. My room had a window in the toilet which I can not open so... :/

No service: literally you see no one. When you are checking in a lady greets you. Many mentioned in reviews about her not being too polite or friendly and after all these years I can say she is actually friendly and polite BUT she is from east Germany. My German friends and colleagues thought me the attitude differences. So if you are not used to the attitude, yes you can find it a bit unfriendly. Anyways, don't expect some hotel service, no one seems to even care who is coming or leaving. As I mentioned above, there is no sign at all. You need to know the exact address and when you look at the ring outside the building, there you see the pension name and a number to call if you arrived.

So as a summary, if you are ok with quite a large room that you can use to stay for one or a couple of nights in a good location for a very good price, and don't have high expectations on topics such as cleanse and hotel level service amenities, this is your place.

Mit zwei Freundinnen habe ich 3 Tage/Nächte im Kutscherhaus verbracht. Unsere Wahl fiel auf dieses Haus weil es zentral liegt, fußläufig waren alle Sehenswürdigkeiten zu erreichen und weil der Preis für eine so beliebte Stadt fast unschlagbar ist. Mit etwas gemischten Gefühlen reiste ich an, denn einige Bewertungen waren nicht sehr positiv. Wir waren alle drei äußerst angenehm überrascht und können die negativen Bewertungen nicht nachvollziehen. Wir hatten jede ein überaus geräumiges und schön eingerichtetes Doppelzimmer zu alleinigen Nutzung. Bett war in Ordnung, Bad war sauber, Heizung funktionierte, Frühstück war wirklich sensationell. Dort eine Stunde in dem liebevoll eingerichteten Raum zu sitzen und in aller Ruhe diese vielen Köstlichkeiten zu probieren war der perfekte Start in den Tag. Abends saßen wir in einem der Zimmer noch zusammen, Platz genug war vorhanden, ein Sofa, zwei Sessel und noch Stühle. Es ist aber eben kein Hotel sondern nur eine Pension, deshalb ist es nachvollziehbar, dass die Besitzerin und ihre Angestellten am späten Nachmittag, nach einem mindesten 12 Stunden Tag, Feierabend machen. Wer einen 24 Stunden Service erwartet, der sollte in eine Hotel gehen und Hotel Preise bezahlen. Außerdem ist es in der Hotel Beschreibung extra ausgewiesen. Einmal sahen wir auch den schwarzen Kater durch den Raum laufen, sehr zu unserer Freude ließ er sich streicheln. Ein wohlerzogenes Tier dieser Tommy. Er springt (da könnten sich meine Katzen ein gutes Beispiel nehmen) nicht auf Tische und belästigt keine Gäste. Aber wer keine Tiere mag, der ist hier fehl am Platz. Da es aber den Gästen erlaubt ist Haustiere mitzubringen, es gibt spezielle Gehege für Katzen und Hunde, muss man dort halt auch mit Tieren rechnen. Auch das erfährt man schon im Vorfeld durch einsprechende Recherche. Die Besitzerin und die Mitarbeiterinnen waren hilfsbereit und sehr freundlich. Mir ist bei meinem Potsdam Aufenthalt nur allgemein aufgefallen, dass die Potsdamer einem Fremden aus anderen Bundesländern auf den ersten Eindruck vielleicht etwas ruppig oder schnippisch erscheinen. aber das täuscht, es liegt an der Mentalität, da passt der Spruch: "Rau aber herzlich". Wenn man selbst freundlich ist, bekommt man das doppelt zurück und wir hatten viele, sehr nette Begegnungen. Wir haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen und ich werde auf jeden Fall mit meinem Mann noch einmal wiederkommen. Fazit: Ich kann diese Haus mit gutem Gewissen weiter empfehlen.Wer sich als Tourist die Stadt anschauen möchte, den ganzen Tag unterwegs ist und einen gemütlichen Platz zum Schlafen und ein tolles Frühstück braucht, der ist...

This was a disappointing pension. I will point out the good points first so as to be fair. If it's Park Sansscouci you want to visit (as we did), the location is great - you can easily walk to the park in 15 minutes. Next, the owners do put on a very good breakfast, much more than one normally finds in such a B&B. However, this is overshadowed by the general lack of cleanliness in the common areas and especially the bedroom. There were hairs in the shower and the floors had not been properly cleaned. The towels were clearly air-dried (stiff) and reeking of fabric softener. The light in the bathroom was dim and almost useless, and the one table lamp in the room did not work. There was a complete lack of attention to detail. Finally, the owners could not manage a smile the entire time (we were there two nights). We did not feel welcome and could not...
