Bed & Breakfast am Luisenplatz — Hotel in Potsdam

Am Luisenplatz is both a fancy hotel and a distinctly more modest bed and breakfast. To get to the B&B, you check in inside the actual hotel, and are then sent down two corridors and across a courtyard to another building.||||The hotel itself, far as I could see, must be very comfortable indeed, and is located right on one of the town's main squares. The reception area includes a nice space to sit down and have a cup of tea, and there's an adjoining grand cafe with great cakes and a fairly impressive interior. The persons at the reception are professional.||||My room was in the bed and breakfast part though. On the one hand, it was huge! A large bathroom, a large kitchen/living room area, and a large bedroom. And all of that for 54 Euro/night, right in the old town centre. The bed was comfortable, and while the B&B area isn't, if I remember correctly, supposed to have free wi-fi, the hotel's connection worked fine.||||On the other hand, there was a distinct and fairly foul smell in the apartment, centred on the bathroom and extending to the kitchen area. No idea what it was, but it persisted both days. The furniture and decorating of the apartment is a somewhat bizarre, random mix of styles/elements, and overall has a bit of a late-80s flavour. The bedroom door stuck on the carpet and had to be pushed close with force.||||Wouldn't recommend it for a romantic stay or anything, but (assuming I was just unlucky with the smell) it's good...

Das Hotel liegt am Rand der Altstadt (direkt am Brandenburger Tor), der Park von Sanssouci ist in 10 min Fußweg erreichbar, dito das holländische Viertel oder die Nikolaikirche+Landtag+Rathaus. Bus zum Hauptbahnhof Postdam sowie Hopon-Hopoff-Stadtrundfahrtebn halten vor der Tür. Da um 6:00 irgendeine Kirche oder ein sonstiges Glockenspiel jeden Morgen halb Potsdam aufweckte, war auch die Baustelle vor dem Haus, die am 7:30 den Betrieb aufnahm, nicht mehr allzu störend. Wegen des Glockenspiels: ggf. Fenster schließen!||||Es ist die billigere Dependance des benachbarten Hotels am Luisenplatz, das auch den Checkin durchführt und in dem das Frühstück serviert wird. Parkplätze gibts in der Umgebung keine, das Hotel vermietet für 9€/Tag einen Platz in der dire; ukt vor dem Hotel zugänglichen Tiefgarage (unbedingt mitbnuchen, wenn man mit dem Auto kommt). ||||Als Zimmer werden umgebaute Altbauwohnungen genutzt (kein Aufzug, steile Treppen!). Unsere Zimmer waren sehr geräumig und zweckentsprechend, aber nicht übermäßig anheimelnd eingerichtet. Sauberkeit war OK, in den Bädern sollten gelegentlich mal lockere Handtuchhalter usw. nachgezogen werden und die Duschabtrennugn neu abgedichtet werden; außerdem ist die Temperatur der Dusche schlecht zu regeln (Elektro-Durchlauferhitzer mit deren prinzipbedingten Problemen). Die Betten waren für uns nicht sehr bequem (Federkerne im Rücken deutlich spürbar, sehr weich).||||In der Zmmerbeschreibung war die Rede von einer Küchenzeile, die war aber in einem der Zmmer nicht vorhanden und im anderen zwar vorhanden, aber ohne jedes Inventar (also nutzlos). Nachfrage ergab: die wird nur bei mindestens einwöchiger Buchung aufgefüllt. Nun gut, wir wollten sie eh nicht nutzen.||||WLAN gibts zwar, auch kostenlos - aber nur in der Hotellobby., nicht im Zimmer.||||Das Personal ist ausgesprochen freundlich und hiklfsbereit.||||Das Frühstück (7 €) ist reichhaltig, abwechslungsreich und für ein Hotelfrühstück ein...

We stayed in the bed and breakfast part of the hotel. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from Sanssouci Park, which is definitely worth a visit. They had a large buffet breakfast every morning, the sauna was a separate charge per person in the basement of the hotel, no gym, not all the house cleaning staff speak English, so be prepared to make your needs known in German or talk to the front desk staff, they all spoke English.
