Hotel Kurpfalz Speyer — Hotel in Speyer

This is a no frills basic hotel....but a very good one.||It is within 12 minutes walk of the cathedral (down the main street), and a few minutes further to the Technical Museum. So it is pretty central, and within a few minutes walk of some of the better restaurants as well.||There is a small car park: seemed to fill up after about 1 pm. There is a pay underground car park a few metres away. We did not need to use that.||The room was large, very clean (and cleaned while we were at breakfast), and had a perfectly adequate shower/wc etc. Elaborately (and expensively) decorated it was not, but it was absolutely fine.||Breakfast was pretty good: no other meals are provided, but there is a self-service place with a fridge and kettle.||Reception was good...high standard of English....and welcoming.||Good prices for a city centre hotel.||Public areas could do with some refreshing, but all clean.||So if frills do not matter, but price, cleanliness, location and convenience do,...

The hotel is situated just outside the pedestrian zone and has limited parking on site. There is a public garage a few feet away. This is not a luxury hotel but a very comfortable caring one. We arrived early were shown a room and then went out for the day. When returned there was no heat in our room and we were immediately moved to another along with an apology. This is very well places to easily reach the centre of Speyer. We had a lovely room on the ground floor. Spacious and well decorated. The bathroom was very nice, but, somewhat see through in parts. Dining area, chair and sofa with flat screen TV. Nice breakfast with cold selection of cheeses, meats etc. It was very hot when we stayed and there is no air con. We always take our own fan this time of year just to be on the safe side. Free parking on site. We would...
