We rented the two apartments which are separate from the main gaesthouse. They were in reasonable condition but could do with a refresh eg the washing machine that we expected to find in one of the apartments was absent. and as the closet laundromat was in Mannheim, that proved to be a disapointment. The keys had to be obtained from the bisto which is on the pedestiran mall, so no parking nearby and hard to find when you are driving in on a dark winter night. The staff were busy serving in the bistro so we were given some rather vague directions to the apartments. After 30 minutes driviing around Speyer to no avail, we ended up back at the bistro. We had to argue for someone to show us where the apartments were (a 2 minute walk around the corner). Great location in the town centre, but the owners really need to provide a simple map to show people exactly where the (unmarked) apartment door is. Our difficulties in finding this on dark and snowy night did not make for a happy intro to Speyer. Undercover parking nearby is reasonably priced. The apartments were snug and warm but we think in summer they may be a bit stuffy. Speyer itself is a lovely town and handy to many other sites, so we would go back again. But probably not...
Read moreOn the whole, a very positive experience here. Slightly odd set-up in terms of no real reception, but you pick up your key to this place (we stayed in the guest house round the corner) from a bar restaurant a few metres away. Room seemed brand new, perfectly clean and comfortable. Complimentary bottle of water and selection of teas/coffees and biscuits. The whole set up was small and compact, but could not have been done better. The bathroom was beautifully kitted out, with an amazing rain shower and massage shower head - if you're cycling, a great place to warm down! Couldn't really be better or more centrally located, but by virtue of being just off the main street, it was not noisy either. We ended up eating at the sister restaurant, and it was really very decent for the price, and great, friendly service too. Possibly not the most luxuriously spacious place for a romantic getaway if you want to spend all your time in the room, but for anyone looking for an ideally located, clean, comfortable and pleasant place to stay whilst visiting the beautiful town of Speyer, I would certainly recommend it. And I have not experienced better in terms of...
