We settled on this hotel because it is petfree and smokefree, something difficult to find in this part of Germany. Also, we wanted to visit the island of Rügen, but not exclusively, and were very happy in the end to pick Stralsund as our base for day trips. We had read that most vacationers go straight to Rügen and miss out on Stralsund -- and that really would have been missing out, since Stralsund itself is a great city, worth the UNESCO world heritage status. The hotel is at the harbor, but since Stralsund is historically a harbor town, you're right in the middle of it all. ||||The parking was great too, and not as complicated as it first seemed. There is paid streetside parking, but it's not that much. There's a trick to it: if you come in the evening anytime after (I believe) 18:00, you can park for free until 9 the next morning. But, if at that time you pay 4 Euros, you're set for the whole next day -- and even until the day after, if you leave before 9 in the morning (or feed the meter again). Note: don't park right in front of the hotel (it's okay for un-/loading), since those spots are NOT public parking. ||||The rooms in this hotel are all designed like cruiseship cabins; and ours was extremely nice and extremely clean -- the bathroom, too. The only negative thing about the bathroom was the water pressure was so strong that it resulted in more water than the small drain pipe could handle, leaving you standing in water. Bonus in the room: an empty fridge for storing your own drinks and snacks. The free wireless internet (code at checkin) was strong. Housekeeping respects the "do not disturb"-sign. We didn't take the breakfast option since it seemed rather expensive and there are several options in town -- the "Fußgängerzone" (main, pedestrian shopping street) is about 10 minutes away and has several cafés and bakeries. ||||We were glad we requested a room with a sea view (see photo), even though I assume the traffic noise (= some cars, boats and people walking by) started a bit earlier on that side. All in all the location...
Read moreSadly, our one night trip was spoiled from the moment we checked in - because of the rude and unpleasant man on reception. ||He told us Hotel Kontorhaus would charge us for a SECOND night - even though we'd already cancelled with Booking.com.||He was most unkind and unapologetic and REFUSED to check what had gone wrong. He seemed impatient and angry.||We had to waste a lot of our cherished holiday time contacting the UK for help.||It seems Booking.com put things right for us and it seems we will not be over charged as he had threatened.|| But no-one from Hotel K has the courtesy to apologise or tell us this.|| I did not find out that Booking.com had put things right till I arrived back in the UK. This man also cost us money by sending us to the wrong car park - which cost us 13 Euros - rather than the 4 promised by the hotel. His unkindness really spoiled our stay. That's the reason I've rated some of the things in the resort lower than they maybe deserved. I am sorry I booked this Hotel. But I'm very glad I booked it through Booking.com. Without them this hotel would happily have doubled our bill. Although other staff seemed fine this unsmiling made our stay horrible. He let us down, the hotel down and he also let Booking.com down. We still can't work out just why he was so beastly to us.||||I would NOT recommend this hotel.||Things can go wrong anywhere but they were so rude, hostile and nasty about the booking error and refused to even try to look into what went wrong.|| But if you do stay make sure you speak German . I think the man might have been cross with us because we were English and sadly,...
Read moreHad a disabled elder grandparent - emphasis on "disabled", and we urgently needed a bathroom. As we were parked close to this hotel and "no - we were not guests of this hotel" , however we requested to use their bathroom as again our physically "Disabled" old grandparent needed and they refused access to him. If you are in the hospitality industry then be hospitable. Taking into consideration this action, each and every one of our family and friends and collegues will be informed about this action by this particular hotel, so that they won't ever have to put a foot into such an establishment. We see Germans but writing this in English as to support anyone reading this review.
Adding more to the very disgraceful reply. Even sleeping on the road would be better than to be catered to by people with no morale. Again no one came to you normally but because of an emergency when a person could not walk. The story is straight. We know how your establishment works. This is good enough information for everyone to make their decisions in...
