While I was excited to visit the place, it turned out that the OZEANEUM Strahlsund has zero security and zero people/revenue management in place.
While the idea of having people enter in brackets to the revenue is great on paper - without any drive of the enployees to keep to the rules or without any policing/guidance personal that keeps order inside - it DOES NOT work.
Too many people funneled trough tight expo rooms with large text pannels, and visitors unable to adhere to the rules of this place or worse basic human decency - result in traffic jams, chaotic moving visitors, and critical loss of patience.
By the third room people started pushing each other, angry fathers ramming their kids carts into the ankles of other visitors, and agressive use of elbowa.
By the fifth room people started actively cursing each other and slamming backpacks into each other's faces.
It felt like the gamescom in collogne on a saturday after overselling cpacity by +200% ...
The whole atmosphere inside was toxic, salty, and sour.
Some of the top offenders beyond that were: Children were banging against glasses of fishtanks with their fingers; Youth were loudly and vulgary lying stretched on the few seating options; and in at least one instance the restriction of not using flash lights during picture taking was woefully ignored.
My recommendation to the owners is to completly rework their concept and hire security/guidance personal that makes sure the human visitors inside the place are not behaving like a horde of...
Read moreCool destination, interesting expositions with a lot to read, the sea giants one was my favorite and definitely a must see, it was what attracted me on the first place. The place itself is very well kept and clean (apart from the toilets which smelled pretty bad), modern, and has a small café, the staff was friendly and helpful, however I do think it's a bit on the pricier side (17€ for a normal adult ticket) for what it has to offer. A good tip is to make sure you plan your trip and buy tickets in advance, since they sell them in time slots and it is a very popular place, what could cost you a few hours of waiting time if you decide to buy the tickets spontaneously at the door, which is what happened to me. Another thing to keep in mind is that this is not an aquarium, there are some but it's not the focus of the place, so if you are expecting a great variety of fish you'll be...
Read moreThe visit in Ozeaneum was really worthy. You can see there a lot of different tanks with fishes, crustaceans and other animals that live in different parts of North, Wadden and Baltic sea, but if you want to see colorful fishes from coral reefs this is not the place for you. There is also a big exhibition about the animals, expeditions and sea pollution. Not all of the descriptions were translated in English. Also a movie and the final presentation, which you watch on deckchairs are only in German. At the exit there are Greenpeace activists. Ozeaneum mission is to expand avarness about the sea pollution, so if you would like to learn more about that you should definitely go there. The cherry on top of the cake were the humboldt penguins that were on top... on the terrace :) definitely don't miss them. The parking there is paid, but we found free of charge places about 1 km...
