As an American who had never experienced a German spa it was quite different than what we were used to . Once you let down your modest American beliefs on being around people without clothes you will be fine. The spa is beautiful and the family that owns it work so hard to ensure everyone has a pleasant stay . We booked a room in the Bad hotel and added dinner and breakfast and it was so easy and wonderful . We had a beautiful balcony room overlooking the funicular and the room was spacious . The bad hotel is so quiet and the downstairs reminded me|a beautiful classic hotel from the 50s which we loved . Dinner was delicious as well as breakfast . Champagne fresh fruit juices were on the breakfast line . The bad hotel has a elevator down to a tunnel which connects you directly to the spa . Everything is in German and it is kind of confusing to get your lay of the land when you first arrive and add to the fact that most people do not have clothes on in the spa . You cannot translate on your phone so you just have to figure it out . Alot of areas are textile free which means no clothes . If you are new to this type of spa I would recommend starting in the blue pool and then as you get more more comfortable try the saunas which you must have towel to sit on . You must wear spa slippers and remove them before getting into sauna . There is overly cafeteria at bottom of spa where you ca have beers or a snack which we found on the second day and there were nice little whirlpools which were smaller and more intimate . The owner is so lovely and she checked us in and there is another worker who we saw at almost all meals she works so hard and ensures you have a good stay . Bad wild bald is a beautiful city and perfect for a long weekend and this spa and stay was a truly unique beautiful experience once you drop your cultural inhibitions that the USA has sort of instilled in usa . I hope to return for another visit at some point to this...
Read moreWe recently stayed at Mokni’s for 2 nights. |Until you’ve stayed, the layout of the hotel is difficult to imagine but essentially there are two buildings either side of a large courtyard. One hosts the spa and one hosts the breakfast. Strangely the hotel hosting the spa has a beautiful reception and lounge area but is not used and is eerily quiet. Instead reception is in the other building ‘Rossini’ and rather more underwhelming. It’s obvious that in its hey day this hotel would have been amazing but at the moment that time seems a little while ago. The rooms ideally need a renovation and as do the corridors and communal areas. It was my wife’s birthday on the day we arrived and I ask if a bottle of sparkling wine could be in the room for when we arrived. It was but I was asked to pay 25 euros for it and there wasn’t even a card or a chocolate to accompany it. A 4 or 5* hotel does better than this in my experience. |Nevertheless we enjoyed our stay. I only mention the above because it wasn’t cheap to stay and I’m not sure it can really command those prices these days. In fairness though it does include completely free access to the spa and this is a great experience - once you get used to not wearing your clothes!? Unfortunately the Roman baths were being renovated whilst we were there but when they reopen I’ve no doubt they will be amazing. |The jewel in the crown for the hotel is the breakfast. A beautiful room and one of the best selections we have ever had. It was far superior to anything else we experienced and perhaps a nod to how things used to be. If you can get a good price I’d say don’t hesitate to book….just don’t have wildly high expectations and...
Read moreUsually when you go to a SPA hotel you expect a lot of good service to increase the relaxation mood even further.
However, Mokni's Palais Hotel is actually a hotel/building that Rossini (the hotel across the street) bought, just in order to use their rooms. So the hotel itself is actually abandoned, and I'm serious when I say abandoned, I didn't see a single living soul inside this beautiful building, which makes it feel like you are staying in a ghost mansion.
There is no 24/7 reception, no room service, no bar (although there is a beautiful abandoned bar inside the building), no restaurant, no staff, no slippers (don't give me the whole environment friendly excuse, it is a SPA, and you have to walk barefoot if you forgot your slippers), the pillows are AWFUL and cheap, no basic needs like a toothbrush, there isn't even any SPA-worthy soap in the bathroom. Instead you get All-in-one-soap that you would get at a budget hotel.
The list goes on and on, I've had better service at a B&B hotel.
It's obvious that this business is dying and they are just trying to squeeze the last drop of cash out of it before selling it to another business. And I really hope that Rossini will sell this building, as it looks breathtaking!
I'm sure the owner can come up with all sorts of excuses like COVID, Russian war,... But there is no excuse to call this a SPA Hotel at this moment. Please call it "Rossini Side Building"
PS. The SPA itself isn't that great if you are younger than...
