Ilidi Rock is the place to stay on the beautiful island of Tilos. The hotel is perfectly placed, right by the seafront. Hotel rooms were spacy, with a very comfortable large bed, a kitchen with fridge and cooking facilities, well-functioning AC (charged extra) and a small safe (free of charge). The terraces all have a beautiful sea view. As the hotel is placed on a slope, it has numerous stairs (challenging for small children and not suited for disabled people), leading all the way down to the best place to go swimming in Livadia. Plenty of sunbeds, free for guests and nowhere else did I see better swimming conditions in the crystal clear waters with lots of colorful fish (bring your goggles or mask). A small pedestrian path takes you right to the centre of the town in 2-3 minutes, where you will find small grocery stores (no supermarkets). But 6-packs of water bottles can be purchased at the hotel at regular prices, so that significantly reduces the burden of shopping. Hotel management and staff were so lovely, superfriendly, efficient and helpful, and always available. Do go out to eat, the town has several restaurants with nice food. Ilidi Rock is the perfect starting point to go for a 45 min walk along the mountainside path to a beach with hardly any or no people at all. At least spend one day renting a car to see the peacock beach, elephant cave and museum, the old town (Micro Chorio) and the inhabited inland town Megalo Chorio. The only drawback with spending your holiday on Tilos is the travel from Rhodos airport to Tilos. The two hour boat ride is comfortable (when the sea is quiet), but boats do not pass over to the island very often, so be prepared to wait a few hours. Therefore, next time I go (and I will go back), I will stay a minimum of 2 weeks. Not a place for night clubs and partying, but definitely a place to relax, swim, eat and enjoy the peace of this...
Read moreThis is obviously a pretty good hotel, despite some missed opportunities. It's a fairly big structure at one end of the Livadia gulf, with a number of small buildings perched on a slope above a private beach. Our room was big, with air conditioning, a nice terrace with a fantastic sea view from above, a small kitchen and a big bed. The furniture is maybe not the most elegant but it is functional. The owners drive you from and to the port when you arrive and leave, and are very helpful in general with information and advice. There is no full restaurant, only a snack bar with a limited menu that operates until 4pm and this is the biggest missed opportunity, particularly because the one or two special dishes that change every day are among the best we have had on the island. On the other hand: try the Alpha beer on tap and you'll be in cold-lager Nirvana: there's nothing better than ice-cold beer after having been in the sun. There is a gym with some ancient machines, a couple of what I had a hard time even understanding how to use. No threadmill, no barbells, non functional stepper, etc. There is no wifi at the hotel, which is an annoyance given that the mobile internet on the island is very flaky. There's also no bar after 4pm. The private beach is pretty good and never...
Read moreWe were so glad we chose Ilidi Rock. The apartment we had was on the lower level, scrupulously clean and facing the bay with bougainvillea surrounding the balcony. We didn’t need to use the air conditioning at this time of year as the room fan was sufficient. Laundry and bed linen were changed frequently and the room cleaned daily.|Apart from the evenings and a couple of specific trips we didn’t move far from Ilidi Rock!|There were plenty of sun loungers available, and the snorkelling around the area is good, with plenty of fish and the sea is so clear so that’s what we did most days. Sea shoes are necessary for use on the beach area. There is a fresh water shower on the beach which is good to get rid of the salt.|The snack bar serves breakfast and lunch which were all lovely. We had Greek salad and Mythos most lunchtimes!|Maria and her family were absolutely lovely. When we were stranded by ferry cancellation we were able to keep the room on without problems. The local Sunvil rep organised everything in liaison with Maria. It was an added bonus to the holiday. All the staff were friendly, but professional which made for a very pleasant stay.|This is real Greece, and just ticked all the right...
