Simply the best, relaxing, holiday we have ever had. The rooms were spotless and fresh and they were kept that way each day by the housekeeping team. It was great to come back into the rooms, having air conditioning, a kitchenette with a fridge/freezer and balcony to relax and have cool drink after relaxing by the pool. There were clothes dryers on the balcony, which were great to have to dry out costumes and towels, but also to dry our freshly laundered clothes (there are washing machines on site to use, no charge, and there’s even a big thing of laundry detergent to use) when we did them. When does that ever happen?! Also, a quick mention here that the beds were SO comfortable!
The breakfasts each day were great, plenty of food and a good variety to suit all tastes. We ate our main meal at the hotel almost every day, either in the pool bar for lunch or at the beautiful (what a view!) rooftop terrace for dinner. We were half board, and really appreciated being able to dine a-la-carte at a meal of our choosing each day. Almost everything is included in the price, with exception of some items that require a payment of ½ of the advertised price. Daughter 1 had salmon each day (7 Euros after 50% deduction) and declared each meal to be the best she ever had. We loved it.
The pool and the hot tubs (not too hot, try them!) were equally excellent. Clean and pristine each and every day and, well what more can I say about the pool? It’s a great size for play, but also just to chill out. There are ample beds around the edges, we never, ever, struggled to get one and never needed to rush out after breakfast for fear of nowhere to go. Each afternoon the two of us would order a cocktail and head up to the hot tubs for a brief time away from everyone. Honestly, at 4pm there was nobody there! Each tub has a retractable awning overhead which shields you from the sun. They’re also up on the first floor, so you’ve got an excellent view of the beach and sea (and chapel). On that floor there are also sun loungers (padded ones) as well as a gym and sauna. It’s a great place to chill away from the main pool area.
Finally then, and most important (maybe this should be at the top the review), we all agreed that our holiday wouldn’t have been anywhere near as enjoyable if it hadn’t been for the hotel team. From the moment we walked in, and before actually, we were made to feel like their most important guests. From catering so cleverly to our mobility requirements, to suggesting places to go and things to see, they worked hard to help us get the most out of our stay.
In closing then, the main thing you should get from this review is that this is an excellent hotel, with super facilities and a great team. We all enjoyed ourselves so much that we’re booking...
Read moreThis review is written on a first impressions basis and with the background of Covid. I had booked a four night stay in a Deluxe Single room but arrived on the day the U.K. decided to impose self-isolation for travellers returning from Crete - so I flew back the next day. That said my time at the hotel was enough to get a feel for it.
The closest airport is Chania and I asked the hotel to arrange transfers. The cost was €60 each way in a Mercedes. The journey took about 45 mins.
On arrival I was greeted by a super friendly receptionist. I arrived an hour after the stated check in time but was a bit disappointed that I had to wait another hour for the room to be ready - which was a surprise as the hotel wasn’t busy. It would have been nice to have been offered a welcome drink.
The photos of the rooms on the website are an accurate representation of what you get. I was however given a family room - which felt a bit cramped with the bunk beds. There was no view as such from the balcony which looked into the adjacent residential building.
A.C. in the room works well and there is a selection of English language channels on the TV.
The location of the hotel is stunning and for the time I was there, I had no problems getting a sun bed. Towels for use outside of the room can be rented at €1 per day.
Georgioupolis itself has a selection of bars, tavernas and shops.
I always try to book a hotel with a gym. What’s on offer here is a bit of a let down and so I didn’t use it.
I was half board and had breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was buffet style but served to you due to Covid restrictions. I found the selection a bit limited and the quality of the cooked items only average. Hot drinks are served from a vending machine and they didn’t have decaf. coffee.
Dinner was in the rooftop restaurant which is open to the public. It’s essentially a taverna style menu and I’d say that’s the standard of food. All perfectly edible. I was asked if I wanted dessert and expected to be given the menu back to choose from - but I was simply served a piece of chocolate cake - which was fine but not what I would have chosen if given a choice.
For what I paid I think I got good value and I would return if I was offered that rate again. If size and view from a room is important to you then perhaps go for a more...
Read moreWe arrived yesterday to the warmest welcome we’ve ever had in our many visits to Crete, we come to Crete regularly to see family. |Antonio, Stella, and the rest of the staff (whose names we unfortunately don’t know just yet ) are all incredibly friendly, and their English is excellent.||This is our second time at this hotel—we stayed for the first time last year and loved it so much that we emailed ahead to request the same room. Not only were our preferences noted, but upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade to one of their brand-new refurbished suites with a private heated pool. We’ve been making full use of it ever since!||As soon as we checked in, we dropped our bags and headed to the beautiful rooftop restaurant for a fantastic meal. We booked half board again this year, and just like last time, the breakfast offers plenty of variety, while the evening meals are generous in portion and delicious. Drinks are also very reasonably priced.||Our first night ended with a dip in our private heated pool, and today we’ve been able to relax on the loungers in the private garden —pure bliss.||We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Having stayed in at least eight different hotels in the area, this one is by far our number one choice. The location is ideal, the views are breathtaking, and watching the sun set from the restaurant in the hotel is simply perfect, | Also must mention the ice cream is to die for, cannot resist when we walk past the many choices in the...
