My experience at Irene Apartments in Agios Gorgios - Corfu was a terrible one. On the first day when I arrived there, at approximately 5 p.m., I did not find anyone at the reception, the schedule being from 10:00 - 12:00, not being informed by either the travel agency or the accommodation regarding this aspect . . Well, that wasn't the big problem, because I found the keys in the door. The big problem was to find out that the resort had a breakdown in the water supply system, and because of this, most of the restaurants and lodgings did not have water. You can imagine, after 17 hours of driving, all I wanted at that time was a shower, but where did the water come from? I called the lady at the reception on the number left on the door, about 3 times, only for her to answer me in the end and tell me in a rather reserved tone that I had confused her with the phones and that I was insisting a lot . (the schedule on the door for contacting that phone number is until 11:00 p.m.). I tried to ask for clarification about the water situation, it was explained to me briefly, dryly and the lady's English was quite difficult, so I told her that I didn't understand exactly everything and she said "ohh, ok, byee" and -he hung up the phone in his nose, as they say. When we also looked for her through messages and explained her situation, she replied quite dryly with "tragic". Ok...I understand the general situation, but don't take my money for granted! The water supply interval for the accommodation was two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening. The water wasn't enough for all the accommodation, on the upper floors because of the pressure it didn't even go up...so it wasn't proposed IF WE WANT TO HAVE WATER, WE BUY DRINKS, AS WELL AS A BAG IN WHICH WE CAN STORE THE WATER. Should I also tell you that the basin was not filled with water at the toilet even during the supply interval?? I had to keep myself from needing the toilet too much while I was at the accommodation, because I had nothing to draw water with! Obviously we were not compensated of any kind, I bought water, I washed myself most of the time with a bottle and in the toilet I poured water from the can! It is true that the problem was all over the resort, but we were also interested in the other accommodations and those were better supplied with water by the owner and did not have too many shortages. This was not the case with us, we paid the full price for accommodation with normal conditions and the actual conditions received were not half as good as those paid for! I even put money from my pocket to cover my BASIC needs. The cleanliness was very poor, I don't think the stove was ever wiped with more than a cloth moistened with water, the shower curtains were black at the base, due to mold, the walls were full of blood stains (probably from crushed mosquitoes) , including the ceiling as well. There was no mosquito net on the doors and windows. When cleaning was done, I found the doors to the balcony open, in the conditions where a lot of mosquitoes, grasshoppers came in and especially because I had my personal things in the room!! It was very easy for someone to enter! Breakfast only started at 09:00, that is, very late, likewise, I was not informed about this aspect either by the owner of the accommodation or by the travel agency, and as for food, very poor, some eggs, two types of sausages, cucumbers, tomatoes, two types of cereals, sour cream, juice, water and coffee, bread, butter and jam. And the quantities are quite limited. I went to breakfast in one day, because otherwise we would not get anywhere if we stayed to eat at that time. I continue with the review in the picture attached below, because here I exceed...

i visited with my husband and 2 kids for a fortnight in august 2022 and booked 2 of their luxury studios, half-board. we had already asked before hand via multiple emails and voicemails to not be put on the road side as we were told it was incredibly noisy, but there was no answer on any of their "contact us" platforms or phone lines. eventually my daughter managed to get hold of them on Instagram and again requested to be pool side, not only were we not pool side but "pool side" was nowhere near the pool and the rooms were far from luxury. they were basic and tired with mouldy shower curtains, moth eaten towels and poor facilities for a self-catering studio. they aren't anywhere near what is advertised. we were told on our booking that we were in their wellness spot and so were many other guests but no we were next to the busy road in damp rooms.
another extra that we found out when we arrived was that you have to pay for aircon per room and per night , even though the advert on On The Beach said the rooms come with aircon. also towels and sheet are only changed once a week, the maids do however come in every morning at the same time to make the beds and always make friendly conversation.
in order to access the pool you have to cross the road, go up and down 2 flights of stairs, across a rusty bridge and down a 100 yard dirt path with sewer pipes and it is unlit at night and so very dangerous as well as full of mosquitoes as it is a drainage way.
at dinner you don't know what you are eating until you sit down and even then the waiters don't have a clue until the kitchen tells them what we are having. there is one option for dinner and no choice, not even a kids meal even though it is advertised as a la carte. in one week we were served 5 meals of pork of poor cheap quality with soggy chips each time. we found out after a couple of days that everyone on half board was allocated a different meal. would definitely not recommend half board.
on day 7 a sofa bed went missing from our room and handbags as well as passports had been moved and left on the floor. we talked to the bar staff as reception is only open from 10am for 2 hours, and we were told in a very threatening way by the owners that "its my hotel, we can come into your room when even we want", bearing in mind i have 2 young kids in a room on their own. made me feel very unsafe. we kept talking to them and the manageress came along and reiterated the same thing before shouting at my husband and myself in front of hotel guests. what a rude, condescending lady very unprofessional. all they had to do was let us know that they needed the sofa bed and apologised and that would've been fine. there is no privacy or security at all and no respect for guests. for the rest of our trip there was bad tension at the hotel, and the "family management "wouldn't even speak to us, we felt unsafe in our rooms and at dinner and so ate out for the rest of the week, even through we paid for half-board.
we budgeted for a half board holiday all year and ended up with sad food, poor rooms and no food choices at all, not even for the kids. the food was always cold. definitely not a la carte and far below what is advertised.
complete lack of customer service and hospitality. very surprised why there isn't many negative reviews as so many people were expressing concern about the "luxury" and overall quality of the hotel during our stay. NOT A FAMILY HOTEL
apart from this, once you left the hotel the people in town are so warm and welcoming and the area is jaw-dropping. there is so much to do and so many lovely places to eat as well as many tours by...
Read moreThis accommodation is basic. Very basic. The apartment we stayed in 102, was very dated. Having paid an additional £180 to have a superior room, I’m not sure what we got for our money. There was nothing superior about this accommodation. We had garden view but this was an overgrown and unattended area and nothing to see or enjoy. |The kitchen is equipped with poor crockery and has 2 cups, 3 plates and bowls, 2 saucepans and we had to ask for a frying pan. There is just enough cutlery for 3. There is no toaster but we improvised and made toast in the sandwich toaster. Poor overall in the kitchen. |The bathroom has small shower area with the shower curtain which wraps itself around you when showering. It smelt damp in the bathroom and is really in need of updating. The toiletries they advertise and provide are 2 tiny bars of soap. Dreadful. |The bed is comfy. The WiFi didn’t work, neither did the TV. We did ask but it was just too much to ask of the very curt and abrupt owner Irene. There was nowhere to hang towels or smalls outside other than basic plastic chairs. Again attention to detail was poor. |The pool was lovely, large and clean however there were wasps covering the grassed areas so watch out where you sit down. There was good music played daily around the pool. We didn’t tie in to the breakfast but from first sight as it is around the pool area, looked very basic, like the apartment. I’m glad we hadn’t paid for breakfast too. We tried a coffee on the first day which was not good so didn’t eat or drink there again. We asked if we could have somewhere to shower before we left as check out was 11am and we were not leaving until the evening. We were told to change in the toilet around the pool. Nice touch Irene apartments. Very accommodating. There was nothing offered to encourage us to go again. |Oh, if you want a room safe and air con, or want to use their gym or pool table, there are additional charges. They charge for everything over and above the basic room. €6 for 30 minutes to play pool!!!!! |The cleaner was regular however left our door open one day which we found out after a day at the beach. Careless. |I wouldn’t recommend...
