Tourists BEWARE staged Motorbike accidents at beach!
We arrived in a rental car and as there was no parking space drove directly to the beach. The parking lot (small) on the beach is at a dead end. We had to stop as a motorcycle blocked us from going on further. I SLOWLY backed the car up, brand new Peugot with one of those rear view cameras and sensors. Then pointed the car to leave the parking lot. At this point some guy bangs on my window. I first thought as the people in Corfu are so friendly he wanted to tell me there was a free space. But he indicated a very old rusty Vespa scooter that had fallen down and was almost under another car about 15 feet from our car. Neither my wife nor I had heard or seen a thing! And I repeat if I get near a plant the sensors go nuts and bip bip bip.
I told him "I'm sorry I didn't see you". He said "I don't care if your sorry look at the damage". He then showed me a rear view mirror on his rusty old junk completely broken. He said "20 euros". I didn't want to make a fuss so I handed him 20 euros. Then he indicated the rear light on his Vespa also broken, So I finally gave him 50 euros to avoid paper work and ruining our vacation.
Afterwards I realized I SHOULD have called the police (number is 100 in Greece) as if I had knocked this junk over and it had been pushed 15 feet on cement, I'm sure we would have seen and heard it. Afterwards we found this on our bumper. No dent! We realized afterwards that the paint was not the same color as the Vespa! Nor as you can see at the same height. The paint washed off very easily.
I really feel like a fool to have gone for such a stupid scam but want to warn others. If anyone else has a similar experience...
Read moreThis beach has multiple beach bars offering sun loungers and parasols for a variety of costs. We chose Ahobar that doesn't charge for the beds if you buy drinks. Very reasonably priced. Milkshakes and iced coffee on offer.
The beach is sandy at the top and pebbly down to the water, some bars have scraped the pebbles away in places to make for an easier entry point to the sea. Once in the sea after about 2 or 3 metres it is sandy again but watch out for the large boulder sized rocks submerged within adult walking depth.
There is a small pedalo, boat and canoe hire place further south on the beach but their prices are quite high given the captive audience.
The water is very rough on this side of the island and can be dangerous to use floating toys etc with children. I wouldn't recommend bringing young children to this...
Read moreA really magical place to enjoy a swim...This is a beach with white sand, shallow blue waters and a very green mountain as a background. The beach is well organized with free beach umbrellas (you only need to consume drinks or food to be able to sit). Here there are also some really nice bars and restaurants with some of the best food you can find on the island.
The only problem here is the parking. The parking next to the beach can only fit 10 cars and it can be so cramped that it may be impossible to turn your car around to leave. I would recommend you to leave your car in the first empty spot you find in the village right before you reach the beach. If it is busy there as well there is a private parking (follow the signs in the village / also visible on google maps) where you can park your...
