So, where to start on this review. I really want to write a fair review of what we experienced and why I have rated this 3 stars. Most of the blame falls on Jet 2 and their descriptions. We have used Jet 2 for the last 6 years and had 3 good holidays, two pretty good and then this one. The main problem is Jet 2 lists this as a 5-star hotel when in actual fact it is a 3* Plus maybe a 4* on a good day. I expect if you managed to book this cheap with the expectation of a 3 star you would be very pleased but when you have paid 5-star money it really falls short. The main selling point is the location which is perfect. Stalis is a beautiful beach and has wonderful restaurants all the way along the strip. The infinity pool is super nice if you can get a sunbed near it. The staff are really helped by Joanna and Chloe who are superb in keeping everyone’s spirits up and really need to be commended for their energy.||||We arrived to what can only be described as an ambush. On arrival there was no explanation of what we had paid for as an all inclusive or where to find the things we had included in the price. It was an immediate drive to upsell to a better room which we needed to do now as otherwise we would miss it. We hadn’t seen the rooms we had already paid for, but we sort of agreed as they were quite insistent it was really good. They then proceeded to tell us about the paid restaurants in the hotel and how good they were and the pay for spa. We left for our rooms with no idea what was included and where we could get it from but £600 lighter. This was a theme through the holiday, a constant feeling that they wanted as much money out of you as possible whilst doing whatever they could to keep their costs down on what you had paid for.||The Seaview rooms where nice and had wonderful views but suffered as all the rooms did from a ludicrous lack of wardrobe space. We spent our time there living out of suitcases as you simply could not put all your clothes away. 3 small drawers and one rail is nowhere near enough for 2 adults for a 10-day holiday. I bring very little clothes on holiday comparatively but even on my own I think I would have struggled.||||The food is very hit and miss. It’s all a bit canteen. It is generally warm to cold and almost always overcooked. The grilled fish was so dry it was like cardboard. Again, you felt they were trying to save money – cheap chicken cuts, cheap fish, cheap pork cuts, always a cheap spag bol on every night and other cheap mince dishes. We had a direct comparison with the 5-star Iberostar we stayed at last year and the food was like night and day comparing the 2 hotels, how Jet 2 thinks they are both 5 Star is baffling. The desserts were very nice and really the only constantly good part of the food offering. The other really poor part was the effort to get a drink at breakfast, lunch or dinner. We are not talking alcohol here just basic water for the family. Its 32 degrees outside and they seemed to be on a mission to only allow you one glass of water per meal. At breakfast we often gave up trying to order a drink as they just would not bring them or ask you what you would like. If you got up to try to get some water from one of the buckets holding the bottles of water, they would rush over almost angrily and pour some out for you. God, forbid you have a bottle left on the table. However, they did constantly try to sell you the glass sparkling water bottles rather than just get you one of the free glasses. My feeling was and I may be wrong, but it seemed they not only were trying to prevent people having a bottle on their table in case they didn’t drink it all but also trying to speed everyone through as the dining room is not massive. We spent the entire 2nd half of our holiday eating lunch and dinner out.||||The brochure says air-conditioned gym and spa. This is a complete sleight of hand. Technically anything can be called a gym but this is not what any normal person would expect. The gym is not air conditioned and has what can only be described as 5-6 pieces of cardio equipment that are close to falling apart. There is a reason you cannot find a picture of their gym on their website. In a formal gym they would have been skipped 15 years ago. There are no free weights and one small old home multi gym which has old cord holding up the weights. It would have been laughable if it hadn’t been so potentially dangerous. The spa is just 2 women trying to sell treatments and massages. The sauna has to be requested for the next day!! They keep it off and again you feel like they have one to tick a box but have no intention of turning it on as it will cost money. Does anyone ever plan a next day sauna? It was never on when we were there, and we heard the ‘spa’ staff try to discourage a number of people who tried to say yes we will come tomorrow. You have to walk through the spa staff everyday to get to the pool so it’s a chance for them to sell.||The pool has nowhere near enough sunbeds. Everyone wants to sit around the beautiful infinity pool that is all over the website. However, it only has 80 beds around it with 450 people staying in the hotel. There are signs saying you cannot reserve beds but there were people out at 6am doing just that. This led to loads of tension as people would come down and see the beds unused and nowhere to go. The 2nd pool has no real Seaview and was quite drab, so people did go there but I think it wasn’t out of choice, it had a child’s pool there as well which was closed as they were trying to fix it. We decided to rent beds on the beach which was much nicer and reduced all the stress. The hotel did have a bit of tension about it, maybe because people felt a bit miss sold but there were a couple of days with arguments about beds. Staff do nothing about the 6am crew so it seemed some of the younger clients who wanted the perfect sunbed got into arguments about people hogging beds.||||If you can get the hotel for 3 star prices I think its probably worth it and maybe why a number of people love it. For 5 star money its just a total waste. You are better off getting an apartment and eating out for every meal.||We would definitely come back to Stalis again as its just a beautiful place, the people are lovely and the restaurants are remarkable. Even the small family ones provide fantastic food overlooking the sea. We would not return to the IResort and I doubt we would use Jet2 again as the trust has gone. More than that I think Jet2 need to look at how they rate hotels. If they are able to rate a hotel 5 star that is so clearly not you do start to wonder how much checking they...
Read moreVisited I Resort Beach Hotel & Spa for 1 week with my partner. We had a late flight come in and when we got to the hotel we were rushed through check in due to their being a handful of other guests checking in, the male on reception did apologise but did not rectify it. We were left with many unanswered questions about the hotel and our package. You need to pay a tax for the room per night, it cost us over 100 euros. We arrived at our room on the third floor, we had booked a gold double room with a sea view, the rooms were small however we were even more taken back to find an infestation of ants all over the room, balcony and the food left by the hotel for us. We went down to reception and asked to be moved room, they asked us to take a seat and they sent their security guard up to "clean the room". At this point it was past 2am and my partner and I were very tired. I advised I did not want to go back to that room however the hotel stated they did not have any other available rooms and we could sleep in the reception if we wished - this was not suitable or "five star service". We went back up to the room once it was "cleaned" there was still ants throughout the place, some dead / alive. My partner and I lay on top of the bed for several hours then went back to reception early. We eventually spoke to the manager at 10am and advised we would need to wait for another room, we eventually got offered another room after 2pm. The manager did give us a bigger room and gave us free late check out on the day of leaving ( which I advise everyone to get if they have a late flight, 80 euros ). ||The infinity pool was lovely, this is salt water. It is a great size and lovely view looking onto the sea / beach. Unfortunately there was not enough sun beds and if you were not down by the back of 8am you would not get one at this area. The sun beds were not comfortable at the infinity pool, cheap looking and uncomfortable to lie on. The other pool area with the smaller pool was also salt water and slightly run down, not five star. It had better sun loungers and easier to get a bed later on in the day. There are sun loungers by the beach, again these fill up fast. There were lots of towels on beds throughout the hotel and beach that were not getting used. ||We were all inclusive plus but were not advised on what comes with it so we found out a couple of days in after speaking with other guests that we could have a meal at the sea view restaurant when opened and could eat at the Salty Bar which did great burgers! The buffet was good however nothing extravagant or any different to any other buffets I have been to. The drinks suited me as I enjoyed the cocktails however my partner was disappointed due to the lack of options of beer unless you pay despite us being all inclusive plus. ||The staff within the hotel worked extremely hard, always had a smile on their face. The entertainment team worked hard also, despite having different entertainment most nights not many guests joined in, which made it feel like there wasn't a great atmosphere within the hotel in that aspect. The hotel and room was very clean ( after the ant infestation ). ||We had paid 200 euros for a couple's massage, both my partner and I were disappointed with this as we were advised this was for 90mins but it was less than 60mins. We also had to wait a while to get taken, we sat in an open space which was run down by the gym. When getting the massage we could hear someone exercising on the treadmill and people talking outside, it was not that relaxing. ||The area of this hotel is fantastic as walking distance to lots of bars, restaurants and shops. The hotel can phone a taxi and you are close by to Malia and other towns.||Overall I would not class this as a five star hotel, I believe the hotel gets away with it due to its location on the beach front however it is much more a 4 star hotel, and I was slightly disappointed in our stay especially with how much it cost us. The staff are lovely however lots of improvements...
Read moreMe and my partner have just got back from the best 10 nights at I Resort. It is definitely the best all inclusive hotel we have been to, especially for value for money.
I am a fussy eater and at previous hotels have struggled to eat more than chips, pizza etc but I found the food here to be really lovely and varied! Lots of salad and fruit options too. I would say there was probably only one dinner that I struggled to find something I liked and ended up with just rice and salad but I count that as a win with how fussy I am. My partner (who is a experienced and highly trained chef) was quite impressed with the food and said it was well flavoured.
I have read a number of reviews mentioning about the sun bed wars! Admittedly we are early risers and were on the sunbeds by 8am latest so didn't have a problem with this but if you do like a lie in, don't expect a sun bed at the main pool. I would say that most days, the majority of sunbeds by the main infinity pool were taken by 8am. There are two pools though, but we never went to the second one. Sunbeds by the beach are nice too and could often get one of those easily.
The BEST and biggest drawing point to this hotel for us was the drinks and the friendly staff. Whilst you can go up to the main or pool bar and order yourself, it is also table service (or sunlounger service)!! I wouldn't of expected this so I think that is a great, luxurious touch. We were never really without a drink in the evenings because the staff were so punctual at coming over when they were empty. When I tell you, the cocktails are unreal, they are better than most of the cocktails you get in bars back here in England. You have to try the Fruit Caipiroska which is Antonios (bar manager) signature! He is such a laugh and has great banter, especially if you sit up at the bar and have a chat with him. Everyone was lovely at the hotel, very friendly but our favourite waitress was Marina. She was just so so sweet and her and Antonios really made our holiday experience go from great to amazing. We were really sad to be leaving such a fun and positive vibe.
They had entertainment every night at the hotel but it wasn't like your classic party dances for the kids it was more relaxed like bingo or quizzes with the occasional show. The entertainment wasn't anything to be remembered BUT not all hotels even have entertainment every night, so definitely not a complaint. It just added something extra to the evening if you weren't leaving the hotel.
Hotel room was great too. We had a comfort room on the west side so it was an inland view but the room was newly refurbished so super modern and clean with good aircon. When we arrived at the hotel, we regretted not paying the extra for a sea view but actually, I didnt miss it. It was quite nice people watching.
We paid for a Cretan Massage package with a body scrub, body massage and facial in the spa and wow that was amazing!!! It was soooo worth the money.
I would say it is a 5 star hotel/experience based on my previous holidays, and the price we paid. I would be being really picky trying to pick out things that needed improvement and it would be tiny things such as needing more hooks in the bathroom/bedroom for towels/robes and a full length mirror.
Overall we had the BEST time and would recommend it to couples, friends and families and would definitely return again. It is a beautifully decorated hotel too and very modern and...
