NASTY, NOISY, RUDE!
Longing for an authentic hostile ambience? Look no further! Unlike its Tripadvisor AND website description , "The hotel consists of 30 rooms facing the deep blue of Cretan Sea." this human storage capsule masquerading as a hotel under represents its luxurious offerings to include noisy road views sprinkled with soothing party music like ac/dc Hell’s Bells sung at full drunken volume just below your hotel window, perfect to mask the continuous vehicle traffic. Moving inside, the interiors are sure to disappoint. Exceptionally clean yet sterile rooms (we rented two with our kids) were baron. No shampoo, no conditioner, no bars of soap, no cups, no expensive mini bar, no shower caps, no mini sewing kits, forget about slippers, or beach towels.... all unhandily absent. There is a soap pump on the bathroom wall you’re welcome to walk out of your shower for each lathery pump. What makes cleaning even more epic for staff are the crackly plastic covered bed liners luring your unsuspecting heads onto tiny twin mattresses creating more symphonies of noises with every nighttime body shift. It’s like drifting off wrapped in a Ruffles chips bag, inside a disco. Speaking of talent...I’ll post the suite decorative artwork, only appreciated with a visual aid. The management, although not truthful or helpful, are very direct and confrontational so you know exactly where you stand. We mentioned the smashed toilet seat and bathroom door gaping hole. The owner was helpful to describe excuses like “we’re too busy now at high season to repair those things”, and “yes yes we know about those things, don’t worry you won’t be charged for the damages.” Food? yes, breakfast is included. This meal is a perfect complement consisting of dry breads, soggy cheese and single slice of tomato, garnished lightly with 3 slices of cucumber. Amazing.... memorable, and perfectly paired.
There’s a beer guzzling 8am drunk at the bar, f-bomb yelling hallway patrons outside my door right now, so the kid friendly environment is really more an educational experience for your children, discussion on safety and life ambitions.
I could go on...but you’ll need to book a room for the full experience. Did I mention the rude dismissive...
Read moreThis is the first time we have stayed on a B&B basis in Crete, and based in our experience at this hotel, it will be the last.||||We arrived late afternoon. Check-in was without issue and we were promptly shown to our room.||||Our room was allocated on the road side (we thought 20 euro per night to upgrade to a seaview excessive). The room was spacious, bright and spotlessly clean. The bathroom although on the small side was perfectly adequate. The balcony was great for watching the world go by.||||The pool area again is kept very clean but we found the layout a little odd. We prefer to spend our days on the beach but were shocked that the hotel charges its guests 10 euro a day per couple to use it. ||||We were obviously aware of other extra charges on booking this hotel. It is 49 euro per week for the air conditioning and 4 euro per day for the safe. The price of the air conditioning we can accept but the safe price is excessive. We have previous paid no more than 10 euro per week for a safe.||||For us the worst part of this hotel, and the reason we will not be returning is the breakfast. I was expecting a buffet style continental breakfast with the option of hot items such as eggs if required. On the first day I was speechless. We were offered tea or coffee, and this came with a small glass of orange juice and a basket of bread with butter and jam. Shortly after, a plate with our breakfast on it arrived. No one asked what we wanted for breakfast, and no consideration was given to vegetarians or people with food allergies and intolerance. It was like it or lump it. This continued throughout the holiday and it was always stone cold as if it had been prepared several hours earlier. ||||This really took the shine off our holiday. We ended up just having the bread and went outside of the hotel for breakfast. This is something the hotel really needs to sort out.||||Stalis itself offers a wide range of restaurants and we were never short of somewhere to go of an evening and didn't have a bad meal all holiday.||||If you enjoy a good breakfast, this is not the...
Read moreMy partner and I have just arrived home from a wonderful 10 day stay in MBH. The hosts and staff were all very warm and welcoming upon arrival and couldn't do enough whilst we were there. Our room was not too big, but just enough for the both of us and the housemaids came daily to clean and make up the beds. Towels were changed every two days and bedding once whilst we were there, which is enough. There is a pool bar where you can get something to eat as my partner and I would eat there most days for lunch, where there are a good variety of choices on the menu for both adults and children and at a reasonable price. We also had two evening meals whilst there of Moussaka, Stifado and chicken. A big shout to Yannis here for the Beef Stifado which was beaut! Bar service was also prompt and knowledgeable from Mano who worked the bar like a pro who was chatty and quite entertaining at times as was Yannis too, who was training young Eldo the ropes whilst we were there Other service was also friendly and polite from Maria who was there early every morning with one of the owners Rena for breakfast with a friendly welcoming "Good Morning" every day. The hotel itself is situated no more than a 5-10 minute walk from lots of others bars, shops and restaurants which were also good to eat and drink in too. The hotel also have their own bit of beach at a charge of €12-€15 for two sunbeds and a parasol. The charge is there as the location on the beach does not come free to the hotel either. We didn't mind paying as this is standard at most places. There is also a local tax to pay of €5 per day and extra for the air con, so do be mindful of the extra charges before booking. |Before booking, I had read the reviews and am honestly glad that we took the leap and stayed, as we couldn't find fault with the service, the food, the cleaning or the people that ran the hotel. My partner and I said that it was one of the most relaxing holidays that we had ever had and we would definitely stay here again. Thank you to all at Malliotakis Beach Hotel for your...
