What can I possibly say to describe the beauty of this place? We arrived in the middle of the summer to this stunning hotel located in the Chora of Folegandros and we were simply left amazed! The hotel is very well looked after, with attention to detail, preserved in its traditional state, as the houses of the islands used to be. The rooms take you back to that time and the vibe of that era in the Cyclades although you will find everything modern you will need in the rooms. During the summer of the pandemic, the hotel was peaceful and perfect to enjoy for the few lucky ones who were staying there. We couldn't stop taking pictures day and night. The hotel is a 5' minute walk from the Chora and everything is at your doorstep. Folegandro's Chora is the most beautiful Chora I have ever seen (and I have been to a few) and in combination with this beautiful hotel, you feel like you're waking up every day in paradise. The owner is a wonderful man and Dimitris was so helpful and accomodating. On our arrival, we were picked up from the port, helped with our luggage, given a detailed explanation of how everything has been disinfected and how everything offered in the room was ordered in plastic packs to avoid any risk of contamination. We were also offered our dedicated sunbeds by the pool. The hotel took very seriously the COVID threat and passed with flying colors! You will definitely feel very safe and very relaxed staying in Polikandia Hotel. On the day we left we had issues with our ferry being canceled due to the strong winds. Dimitris at reception took the initiative and checked everything for us before we even knew it, called the port services to find out when the next ferry to our destinationwas , and made us feel comfortable until our departure. Great customer service and a genuine caring attitude. Thank you so much for a terrific stay and we will back soon because 2 days was...
Read moreFolegandros Island Hotel Polikandia This was the 2nd. island of a 4 island hopping experience and what a brilliant find! And why should I tell you? Because Demitris and the rest of the staff deserve the recognition.
Collection and return to the port complimentary. Beautiful 1st floor room with a wonderful view of the pool and church, from a great room, framed by bougainvillea. Really nice breakfast from the buffet taken sitting around the pool. Loads of great coffee. The pool is surrounded by colourful exotic flowering plants. And everything spotlessly clean. You have to see it to believe it!
In addition, we took a package to include breakfast (recommended) and a car. The main town is a very short walk but we wanted to explore the island. We could have taken the bus but wanted the flexibly of a car. Every morning the car boot was loaded with clean beach towels, beach mats and parasols. Every restaurant recommendation was a winner. Every beach and points of interest were spot on. A word of caution: most of the beaches are a walk from the main road and some of the unmade roads down to beaches are steep. But the rental car managed OK. One place Agali is worth mention because it’s an easy drive and served by the bus. It has some great restaurants and water-taxis that service beaches along the coast with spectacular views.
An anecdote: One evening we were leaving the hotel for dinner and there was a sign on the gate warning us that it’s a festival day and celebrations could go on until the early hours (and did). But there were ear plugs available in...
Read moreOur stay at Polikandia was great until the minute of check-out when Dimitris accused us without proof that we had damaged his rental car. The situation became very uncomfortable when we told him that we did not remember of any incident during our 3-day rental. From a lovely and pleasant man, Dimitris became very irritated, affirming many times that he was sure that the accident (which btw we did not even saw, as the car was rented already to other people) was caused by us. He returned to inside of the Hotel telling us to follow him. We gave him cash (which was part of the car-rental "deal") and credit card, of which he threw back to us saying "its ok, you can go now". Such behavior is not acceptable !
Out of respect for his family that also works in the hotel, I still tried to give Dimitris a feedback, but he did not want to listen. There are 2 big issues with his car-rental system that can lead to this conflicting situations: (1) there is no proper check-in/out of the car and (2) as there is not enough parking space in front of the hotel, Dimitris and his personnel maneuvers constantly the cars with spare keys. If the accident is minor (e.g. a scratch as in our case), its virtually impossible to state when/how it happens and who is the real responsible.
Please do a favor to yourself: go to Folegandros (its a lovely island!), but do NOT stay at Polikandia. Otherwise, you risk of being mistreated like we did and spoil your...
