To Goupi — Restaurant in Municipality of Folegandros

Unfortunately we were left disappointed by this place, there's much better food for the same cheap price in Chora. After a few days walking by and seeing a line up, we decided to wait for our last evening in Folegandros. The wait was about 30-45 minutes, which isn't too bad. The food was very simple with no attention to details and no authentic bold flavors like all our previous meals in Greece. We ordered the local cheese pie, the oven eggplant, Dolmadakias (which they were out of) and oven pork with mushrooms, peppers and local cheese + 1/2 l. of rose. The oven eggplant wasn't too bad, the cheese pie crust was very dry and didn't feel fresh, the pork with vegetables was plain simple pork that might have been overcooked since all the vegetables were gone. As for the atmosphere, the service was quick and effective but felt rush and non personal, the setting of most tables is under bright neon lights which is a shame because the square is beautiful. When we left the restaurant and there was still a line up, I was tempted to share my experience with people in line to redirect them somewhere else that would deserve their attention. Every evening we saw a long line in front of this restaurant and assumed it must be one of the best places to eat in Folegandros. On our last night, we decided to make the effort and wait for a table. The disappointment was as great as the wait. After three summers traveling in Greece, this was by far the worst restaurant we’ve experienced. The dishes were heavy, greasy, and completely lacking in refinement. I agree completely with the below reviewer. This place came recommended by my hotel as a place to eat traditional taverna food. We came at 8:10 and waited about an hour to get seated. The line grew even longer as the night went on.

It is truly not worth the wait. The food was average to good taverna food. The prices are very good, which may be why it's so popular. We had the moussaka, vegetable in the oven, octopus salad and some meatballs. Everything tasted fine but nothing memorable.
